Michigan has certainly shown it’s fall colors this week. I have been sleeping in long sleeves, running in sweat pants, and enjoying everything pumpkin, cinnamon, and apple spiced I can get my hands on.
Which brings me to this morning’s breakfast:
Two Van’s Gluten Free Apple Cinnamon waffles (yum) topped with a mixture of unsweetened applesauce, pumpkin, and a few sprinkles of pumpkin spice and cinnamon.
It only took a few minutes to prepare and tasted like I slaved over it all morning. Love when that happens!
You know what else I adore about this time of year? Getting the urge to go outside. While I have plans to visit the gym later tonight for Fitness Pilates (and redeem myself for missing Tuesday), I just realized that I can’t even remember the last time I stepped foot in the gym.
I have still been working out, but have been running more than ever. Also, I’ve been enjoying a handful of at home workouts I have yet to share here.
Today I wanted to let you in on a workout I originally put together as a guest post for Hillary. (<- check her out!) And, side note: I included 60’s in the title to go off of the 60, 50, 40, etc. theme you will catch onto.
60’s Outside Fall Workout
Besides taking group fitness classes like yoga, Pilates, and barre, I like to keep in shape with workouts that involve running, HIIT, or Tabatas. Running is a passion of mine because it allows me to get outside, listen to different types of music, and soak in the fresh air and scenic routes while exercising.
With the cooler weather creeping in, I have been spending more days running outside and less days inside a gym. Since relocating up north from down south just a year ago, the fall has without a doubt become the season I enjoy the most.
I look for any excuse to get outdoors and recently got inspired to take my workouts there too, no matter what my neighbors might think of me.
Never tried it? If you’re worried about getting your hands (and knees) dirty, try bringing a mat with you, or finding a spot around your home that doesn’t get too messy. If you’re like me, you might just enjoy a reason to roll around in the leaves or hang from a tree every now and then.
Pull-ups, anyone?
Below is a fifteen minute circuit workout I put together that requires zero equipment. The time might sound breezy, but don’t let it fool you… after a few rounds of 60’s I was certainly feelin’ it!
Make sure to do all of the exercises back to back with a one minute rest between each round.

Want more? Throw in some extra credit by doing 60 sit-ups or other abdominal exercise of choice. Don’t be afraid to grab on and go for a full body exercise like leg ups or knee raises.
In doing so, you might just fall for these types of outdoor workouts like I have!
Questions of the Day
• Do you enjoy taking your workouts outside of the gym?
• Have you made anything pumpkin recently I should know about? (Feel free to link up!)
I plan to take full advantage of having the rest of the day to myself. I have had an incessant itch to get back in the kitchen (finally!), bake something pumpkin and create a new soup recipe. Hopefully that goes well and I will have some yummy fall inspired recipes to share with you very soon.

I love working out outside! I am really dreading the winter 🙁
Heather
Ohhh. Just hearing that word makes me shiver. Makes me want to soak up the fall even more!
Rachel @ Running Rachel
There are so many things I love about this post – the first being that delicious breakfast! That looks a lot like what my dinner was last night :). I haven’t been able to find the apple cinnamon Van’s waffles in our grocery store – I’ll have to keep looking for those!
I actually love (and much prefer) working out anywhere besides a gym, but I find myself getting easily distracted. How do you avoid distractions when you work out outside (dog, husband, neighbors, etc.)? I need some work with that!
Heather
I’ve been lucky to find them at Meijer, and possibly Kroger? But I know those chains aren’t everywhere. Have you tried Trader Joes or Whole Foods?
As for distractions, that’s where I rely heavily on my music. Once I have my favorite workout playlist (for the moment) on, I get in the zone and aim to get done as quickly as possible. Currently putting together a new one for fall!

I looove working outside but the weather this week has been just a tad too cold to do! The workout looks like a lot of fun- short and sweet just how I like it!
Lisa
I absolutely love your Breakfast photo with all the leaves surrounded. So prettyyy.
And you are too cute working out outside. I actually don’t workout outside too often (besides daily walks), but I kind of want to do it more since it kind of seems more appealing than being stuck indoors.
Heather
I told you my neighbors think I’m crazy on two accounts. 😉
Love long walks outside! Especially lately with this amazing weather. Soaking it all in before the winter rolls around. Eek!
Em @ Love A Latte
Definitely love taking workouts outside – makes me much happier than being indoors! I love everything and anything pumpkin 🙂
Heather
Now if we could only do something about this winter season coming up… 😉

I love outdoor circuit workouts! It’s still 90 in Orlando so hopefully I can try this workout during December (aka Florida’s fall) 😉
Amanda
Soooo…leave it to me to post about pumpkin and not work outs 😉 But I wanted you to know at a girls night last night I discovered a pumpkin/white bean/maple syrup/coconut oil/pumpkin pie spice dip for our apples!!! Never had one with white beans!! It was so yummy!!! Had to share with you! 🙂

Looks like you have some pretty good ideas on this blog…thanks for the info!
I am now a grandma, but I still look for good ideas on healthful living. In winter, I like to go hiking in the snow, building forts and having snowball fights, guys against the girls!! The girls usually win because the guys are not in as good shape as we gals!!
When I work out indoors, I’m playing with my toddler grandson, working out to Wii games, finding yoga workouts on YouTube, and putting in tapes on aerobic weight training.
I get up from my computer for 10 minutes of workout ( running in place, lifting free weights, squats, dips, lunges) for every 50 minutes I am online. I don’t use the TV except to watch something special with grandbaby.
I work teaching adults with physical and cognitive disability. I also help feed, change underthings, and push people in their chairs, so my job is very physical as well.
I don’t feel 57 at all…keeping it new and fresh as you do makes all the difference in the world!
BTW, I’d like to talk nutrition with you some time…I have many years of experience with normal diet and specialty conditions.
