Hello there! I thought it would be neat to cover a hybrid of two series that I used to regularly feature on the blog, back when I kept up with it once or even twice per day. After surveying you guys back in August, it’s clear that posts that include a peek into my everyday whereabouts is something that interests you.
It surprised me to see that so many of you love seeing What I Ate Wednesday posts, because I feel like I just throw those together. The pictures aren’t always the best quality and there isn’t a lot of writing involved, but I guess I’m one who also likes to see what people eat in a day — mostly for inspiration for healthy eating on-the-go and to add variety in my dishes.
Just for fun, I broke down my Monday with more detail than I usually do to incorporate another “Day in the Life” type of post. I featured a handful of these years ago, and again, I’m one who likes to see what other peoples’ days looks like. Does that make me curious or nosey? Perhaps. But, entertaining nonetheless.
These days I’m working full-time managing a fitness studio, which you probably already know due to the infrequent posting schedule here on the blog. (I’m working on it, promise!) We’re living in Brooklyn, New York and we are adjusting to city living in a walk-up apartment, without cars, a backyard, extra space, or a long-term plan. We’re doing great and staying busier than ever!
I’m currently 21 weeks pregnant, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Baby H into our lives in March. I’m doing well in this pregnancy and I am soaking in as much of this experience as I possibly can. (There’s a second trimester update coming next week!) I’m feeling good and working out about 2-3 times per week. I attended an Orangetheory Fitness class Sunday and Tuesday, so this Monday was my rest day in between.
I chose to highlight a day that I actually wasn’t working for this DITL post. I’m sure I’ll do another post similar to this one down the road on a work day, but to be honest, I had more time to capture my meals than I normally do and that’s when I decided to put it together!
If we’re going to include all of the highlights, lets back up to the four times I got up Sunday night, starting at midnight. I swear, our baby is already training me to get up to care for him/her! But that’s neither here nor there.
After trying to get as much sleep as possible …
8 a.m.: up and at ’em – immediately hit the restroom and start a pot of 1/2 regular, 1/2 decaf coffee
(I usually drink decaf, but I mix it so Scott can share it with me at home.)
8:15 a.m.: eat breakfast – a usual go-to of Van’s grain waffles, Greek yogurt, a banana, chia seeds, and a drizzle of honey
(I’m all about the Chobani pumpkin flavor right now! Sided with a tall glass of orange juice – a pregnancy fave in the mornings – and prenatal vitamin.)
8:30 a.m.: it’s my day off so, I relax and catch up on the DVR for a little bit
(Since I always work on Saturdays, I try my best to take Sundays and Mondays as my “weekend”)
9:15 a.m.: check some work emails, blog emails, start drafting a post I’d been planning to write for a bit
10:30 a.m.: go on a walk with Scott and Roadie
11:15 a.m.: check more work emails and start a load of laundry
11:30 a.m.: already hungry for lunch, so I make a Scott and I a soup and salad combo
(Scott works on his freelance consulting business at home during the days, at the restaurant at nights, and travels quite a bit. If it ever seems like he and I are just home with nothing to do during a weekday, trust me, it’s a rare occasion. Or a Monday.)
I’ve been wanting to make a homemade soup, but I haven’t found the time. I’ve been living off of Amy’s soups lately. Pictured is the Alphabet Soup and a side salad with romaine lettuce, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, red cabbage, black olives, and boiled egg in a vinaigrette dressing.
12:10 a.m.: clean up around the apartment, more laundry
12:40 p.m.: work on Monday’s post and finally finish and share on social channels around 3:15 p.m.
I grab two hearty handfuls of Monster mix from Target as I get ready to take Aspen to the vets.
(I’ve been nuts for sweet and salty during this pregnancy!)
I also went back into the kitchen to grab another one of my go-to snacks right now — corn & bean salsa and corn chips.
3:45 p.m.: arrived at the vets after walking with Aspen in the cat backpack, and she gets her yearly exam.
(For those of you who were wondering, Cali is on the mend! It was a long few months of trying to figure out what was wrong with her. The poor girl had a stone in her bladder and after different strategies and medicine failed, she ended up having surgery last week. She’s doing great now and seems to be back to normal!)
4:35 p.m.: back at home and ready to start dinner. I’m working with Hello Fresh to share about the service, and am loving it so far. (More information on my experience coming soon!)
I grab a big handful of red and green grapes to nibble on while I decide which meal to make and get things going.
4:50 p.m.: Scott leaves for work and I begin cooking
5:25 p.m.: snap a few pictures for the campaign and dig into the eats!
6 p.m.: clean up from dinner and run the dishwasher
6:30 p.m.: put laundry away and get around to replacing our summer clothes with winter clothes in our closets
(We keep our winter coats and sweaters stored in a box hidden in a closet and in suitcases under our storage bed. I put the winter stuff away every spring and switch the summer stuff out for warmer garments every fall.)
8 p.m.: pack my backpack for work the next morning and finish organizing things from the weekend
8:45 p.m.: start drafting this post!
10 p.m.: shut down my phone and computer for the night, enjoy a few Tate’s Bake Shop cookies and a tall glass of organic low-fat milk
10:30 p.m.: fishing watching the Elizabeth Smart Autobiography on A&E (holy moly she’s amazing)
10:35 p.m.: take Roadie for his nighttime walk
10:55 p.m.: brush teeth and get into bed!

I know my days are about to change quite a bit in March! I think it will be fun to include at least one DITL while I’m still working full-time at the studio before Baby H comes, too. Let me know if you like seeing these sneak peeks into my days, and if so, I’ll pop in with them from time to time.
Happy Hump Day!
Question of the Day
• Are you in somewhat of a transition right now? (College to career, job to job, on maternity leave, moving, etc.)
I would love to hear about some of the life changes you are going through. What does a typical day for you include? Is it different than what you pictured five years ago?

Love these posts! I think starting your day with waffles is a great choice. Im not in a phase right now, but one is coming. Its tough, but i try to be less aware and stressed and just let the thoughts come through.

After 3 years of law school and 2 years as a lawyer, I decided to stay home with my son after he was born this past March (21st)! So our days definitely look different. No two are the same, but it can also FEEL very the same by the time it’s 7pm and I’m hoping his dad gets home before bedtime at 7:30. Mine is a creature of routine though and he prefers to nap and eat at the same time each day. He’s been this way since 2 months old. So we are tied to the house at nap times, which can be tough, but I prefer this to being unsure of when he might be hungry or sleepy and dealing with a ravenous overtired baby!
I am 37 weeks pregnant with my first baby so yes a transition and things will be changing a lot very soon 🙂 I’m impressed with all the vegetables you’re managing while pregnant, my stomach has not been into that hehe. Are you planning to go back to your position at the studio once the baby is here or stay home full time?
These are my favorite types of posts. You know, real life ones. I’ve unfollowed so many blogs I used to love because they became nothing more than magazine articles with professional photos. I can appreciate the work put into them but I prefer relatable!
After being a stay at home mom for many years, I’ve just decided to go back to school. This will have me ready for the workplace just as my littlest is starting kindergarten. I’ve loved being home with my kids but I’m also excited for future endeavors away from home!
Have you decided if you will continue to work after the baby arrives? I can’t imagine the cost of daycare/nanny in NYC!

I love seeing posts like this too! Most of my day is spent behind a desk so I can’t imagine it’s too exciting to others but who knows. Your cat is so cute! My husband is allergic so we only have a pup. I’ve seen those cookies at the store and they look really tasty. Maybe I’ll pick them up next week!

These are my favorite posts too! My last one was when I was still working and pregnant and now I’m a SAHM to at 15 month old and pregnant again! I’m due for a more recent one. I’m so excited for you and Scott. Are you going to be staying in your current apartment once the baby gets here?
I love seeing this posts! It’s so interesting to see how others spend their day. We used Hello Fresh a bit last year and I loved not having to meal plan and I often got meals I wouldn’t normally make.

Wow, you are one busy momma! I am in a transition period that I’m really annoyed at. I sold my coffee shop a few years ago and I’m still trying to decide in what direction to head. I keeping hoping something will present itself. All your food looks amazing

Hi Heather,
Thanks for sharing your great moment. It’s so surprising you were 21 weeks pregnant and doing well and you used to go workout during that time. I think you are too busy mom.
