It’s amazing how quickly gluten-free options are popping up where you least expect them! Did you know that Pizza Hut® teamed up with Udi’s® and now offers a gluten-free pizza option?
I recently got the opportunity to see and taste it for myself by visiting a local Pizza Hut. And by local, I really mean I drove forty minutes to Flint, Michigan as I was invited to visit the restaurant and give it a go. No worries though, that just goes to show how brand-new this option is!
More and more Pizza Hut locations will be carrying Udi’s certified gluten-free crust as time goes by, but you can reference a list of current locations participating in this partnership as of right now. I was happy to make the drive and see what all the fuss was about with a group of friends a couple of weeks ago.
While I don’t necessarily need to eat gluten-free, I try to watch my gluten intake and, over time, realized that my stomach does have a bit of sensitivity to it. I still eat and purchase meals and groceries with gluten, but if there is a gluten-free option available, I will most likely order that instead!
Pizza Hut has partnered with the Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG) to create a gluten-free pizza preparation process and training standards to avoid the risk of cross-contamination. I was truly impressed by the obvious extra steps taken by both our server and the kitchen the second after I said “gluten-free crust, please.”
I opted to order the “Create Your Own” pizza, loaded it with veggies, topped it with chicken, and asked for it all on Udi’s certified gluten-free crust.
Since I was veering off of the cheese-only and pepperoni recommended path for true gluten-free customers, our server informed me that the topping options I chose would not be guaranteed to be gluten-free. I thanked her for the information and assured her it was okay for me to eat.
My pizza arrived to the table soon after the others, but separately and in its own box.
They really do go through extreme measures to make sure nothing could tamper with their definition of gluten-free!
Besides my preference to add a little more marinara sauce to the pizza, I really enjoyed it. Like any other gluten-free or lightened up options, I tasted more of the nutritious ingredients like the chicken and veggies instead of a thick crust or loaded sauce and cheese. I would definitely give it another order down the road!
Please note: Although they go through many precautions, it is important to know that Pizza Hut kitchens are not gluten-free environments. Due to the variety and handcrafted nature of their menu options, shared cooking and preparation areas, and vendor-supplied ingredients, Pizza Hut cannot assure consumers that its restaurant environment or any item will be one hundred percent completely free of gluten.
Want to get your hands on some pizza pies? You can scope out the nearest participating location and get the Udi’s® “Gluten-Free Pizza” starting at $9.99.

Kristin
No no no, I don’t think it’s even possible for me to put into words how excited I am about this. My boyfriend and I try to eat paleo as often as possible, but we make exceptions for pizza on occasion. When we do, we try to at the very least do a gluten free crust (and this limits our options to one place in our town). The fact that pizza hut has added gluten free options has made my eyes turn to hearts. I’ve never had anything by Udi’s before, but I’ve heard such good things i’m SO ready to give this a try!

My husband can’t get on board with it either. I really like gluten free noodles, so it must be a personal preference to texture. I have learned that they stick together easily, and are best when eaten right after their done boiling. (Don’t let them sit and stick together!)
