It’s #NationalCoffeeDay! You knew I would be celebrating.
( is perfection.)
In honor of the holiday last year, I shared 10 Health Benefits of Drinking Coffee. It gave me an excuse to browse around online and find several reasons to keep my morning cup of joe in my regular routine. There are things I will give up or make a clean break from (like sugar, candy, or soda), but coffee will never be one of them.
This may seem ridiculous, but I thought it would be fun to write a little ode to coffee this year. That’s right. And ode to coffee. Because that’s how much I love it. I hope you enjoy the rambles in this lighthearted post!
An Ode To Coffee
Dear Coffee,
Thank you for always being there for me. You never skip a beat, and always show up when I need you the most. And that’s a lot.
I can drink you plain, dress you up in milk and whipped cream, or even add a little froth to feel fancy. You come in so many flavors, which makes it nearly impossible to get sick of you.
You always come with a jolt of energy to start my day on the right note. Except on the days you jump out of my cup and spill on my shirt, on my keyboard, or even in my car, which happens quite often. Don’t worry though, I forgive you. I have my feisty moments, too.
Regular, decaf, hot, or cold, it really doesn’t matter to me. Holding and sipping a cup of you makes me one of two things… instantly relaxed or ready to take on the world.
Without you, I don’t think I could function.
I mean, I could… but why would I want to try? That’s just silly.
There are times where I put other things before you, like training or running a long distance. I’ve tried to sip on you beforehand, but that doesn’t work out for either one of us. Over time, I’ve learned to wait and savor you after my run is done. You’re like the best prize ever when I finally get to the finish line of a breakfast or coffee shop to order a cup.
If there’s anything I turn to when I need a smile or pick-me-up, it’s you. You’re just… the best. And I will always cherish my quiet time with you.
So thanks for being awesome day in and day out. <3
Love,
Me

Fun fact: Life In Leggings was almost named Coffee and Cardio. Almost. The only reason I moved on from that blog title is a because a similar one is already taken.
One of my favorite parts of every single week is getting to sleep in and sip on a cup of coffee while I wake and snuggle up on the couch on the weekends. If I’m working on Saturday, I make sure to get in my coffee and couch time before church on Sunday morning. We (purposely) attend the late-morning service to ensure our mornings aren’t rushed. It’s a beautiful plan.
My closest friends know that there will be coffee close by every single morning. Whether I am hosting your stay, you’re hosting mine, or we are vacationing anywhere from the mountains to the beach, there’s no need to fret. I’ve got a plan to have coffee available for everyone each and every morning. No doubt.
While it may seem like an obsession, I do enjoy it in moderation.
One (sometimes huge) cup every morning, every day. And I don’t think that will ever change.
There are times, of course, where I order a second cup, but that’s only on special occasions or when I have some serious work to do. Or any time I pass a Starbucks and find an excuse to order a seasonal latte. Dang you, drive-thrus.
Another fun fact: Scott and I went on a coffee tour on our honeymoon in Costa Rica, and brought a bag of coffee beans straight from the plantation home for everyone in our bridal party.
And if you remember, that’s a lot of bags of coffee.
We learned a lot on that tour, mainly that Americans don’t know how to drink coffee. Dark roast is the “burnt and leftover coffee”, and that is what espresso and cappuccinos are made of. Medium roast is better, and light roast is the best of the best – but a lot harder to find.
While I appreciate a regular coffee, my favorites are always flavored with something special…
Those two bags will always find their way into our coffee cabinets for eons to come. (Yes, we have a coffee cabinet that is dedicated to coffee mugs, bags of coffee, and teas. It’s fine.)
Oh, and let’s not forget pumpkin spice. I could write another post on my adoration for that bag alone.
As I (finally) finish sipping on my (possibly refilled) morning cup of coffee and wrap this up, I am laughing at myself for dedicating an entire post to my love for it.
And then, as a perfect rebuttal, I spilled the rest of my mug all over the table.
Haha, coffee… you get me every time!
Since it’s #NationalCoffeeDay, I invite you to grab a mug and share your favorite ways to drink it with me in the comments section.

hahah I am TOTALLY with you on this! I love coffee. We have a chemex at home, so I tend to make pourover coffee every morning. We sometimes splurge on the fancy expensive beans, other times i just want some dunkin!!

O coffee! A wonderful thing. I used to drink it at my grandmas when I was young (young!) and then had to stop all super acidic stuff due to my health issues, but now I’ve gone 1 1/2 years of drinking coffee again and I don’t plan on stopping!

I LOVE your ode to coffee!!! So perfect!
I am a coffee addict. While I stick to kcups for the most part I always love a good treat with a peppermint mocha in the winter from Starbucks. I also love their Salted Caramel Mochas.

Love it! I drink coffee black, but my favorite is flavored coffee. I’m currently digging a Pumpkin Pie flavored coffee and a Coconut Mocha. Yum-o!

This post is AMAZING! And glad I am not the only one to love coffee so much. I too plan my day around it, and when I’m vacationing or traveling people know I have already google maps the closest coffee shop.

LOVE coffee! I’ve recently switched to an herbal blend called Teeccino to cut back on caffeine for fertility reasons. But I’ll still drink a cup of regular or half and half a few times a week. I don’t think I could ever cut it out completely. I love the ritual, aroma, warmth, flavor, everything!

I LOVE my coffee. I will never give it up. I actually love my time in the morning to drink a cup while prepping for work for the day. I actually get up an hour before the babies wake fro this reason only. If I don’t, my coffee is being reheated in the microwave at least ten times before it’s done…yuck!

I’m a day late, but I am happily sipping my coffee while reading this post- haha! I love sitting on the couch in the morning slowly drinking my coffee….this usually happens on the weekends! I’m ridiculous because I love lattes not regular coffee…..my husband calls them my snobby lattes! Ha!

Haha This post is great! I’m with ya – regular, decaf, latte or black; there’s just something about a cup of coffee that makes everything brighter! I’ve been drinking black coffee at home lately, but I still love driving through a coffee shop for a latte. It feels like a treat! And there’s just something about having someone else make it for you that feels extra special. 🙂

I agree 100%, I have given up sugar, soda, dairy and gluten, I will never give up coffee. I too enjoy it in moderation, unless I pass a caribou or a starbucks…or a dunkin donuts or a panera……lol the list goes on. I love a good cup of coffee and I love snuggling on the couch in my comfy clothes on weekend mornings savoring that cup! I love this post 🙂
Rachel
Thanks for sharing. I too agree you can wear anything when you have a cup of coffee. It is kind of a non-judgmental kind of bet friend that is always there for you! lol. This was awesome!
