Since launching this site last February, I have muttered two little words more times than I can even count. These two words put together are supposed to represent everything about who I am, where I go, and what I do.
Such a simple phrase somehow encompasses my pictures, recipes, events, stories, and even my life. As time goes by, I have learned to fully embrace a title for my writing and brand it.
When meeting new people and explaining what I do for a living, blogging comes up almost immediately. As most of you know, I do not make my income writing this blog (yet!), but through other blogs I write or contribute toward.
I still dance, I still am a housewife, but writing and blogging is my main day-to-day job that represents me the most. So that is exactly what I say.
Why I Blog
When I first started blogging, wayyy back in October of 2010, it was strictly to share my wedding planning adventures, and written for me, my family, and a few close friends to enjoy. I went by an anonymous name and did not go into detail about who exactly we were, where exactly we lived, or even what our last names were. It was a great way to share a special time of our lives with Scott’s family, in particular, since they lived far away.
When the wedding was over, I had the itch to write again and that is when my next blog started.
I created HB&SH to share everything else about my life that I didn’t get to cover while planning our wedding. This is where I shared my first recipe, my first workout (revamped for this site), and more than anything, my experiences as a newlywed who was learning the ropes on how to become a woman of the household.
Did any of you click the links and expect another blog to appear? It does… for about five seconds. Then it automatically directs you back here. Go ahead, try it. I bet it gets you every time!
Writing that blog gave me an outlet to share some of the things I most commonly get asked by friends, which you will now find on my Health + Beauty page. As I started posting regularly, I received a lot of positive feedback from people I least expected it from. Complete strangers emailed me with questions, or even just to say a quick “hello”.
Knowing what I do is appreciated is the motivation I have to keep going! Even if I encourage one person to make a healthy decision or show another how to apply false eyelashes, I feel satisfaction in helping those around me.
I found excitement writing that blog, then out of the blue one day it hit me. I needed a brand. I needed a shorter phrase that is easy to say, a web domain to match, and to use that phrase on all of my social media outlets.
Behind the Housewife Glamour Name
I have actually toyed with the idea of changing my blog name, because I am unsure how it reads to people. Let me ask you a question:
When you hear the title of my blog what do you think of?
Please don’t tell me something like this…
Yikes!
That is a photo I recently posted on Instagram as part of the #Holidayaday photo challenge I am participating in. The word was cozy. Apparently, that meant cheesy glamour shot in the bathroom with my winter coat on to me.
The title Housewife Glamour came about by default, actually. I had a different name picked out for months, and still own the domain for it to this day. What is it? A little embarrassing. You are going to have to do some serious convincing to get me to share it all, but I will tell you it had the word Barbie in it. Ha!
To make a long story short, I found out (the hard way) that not only was the name taken, but it was also on a close watch by Mattel. I did not want any part of that, so while on the phone with the lovely people who host my site at GoDaddy.com, I had to come up with a backup, pretty much on the spot. Ummmm…. okay.
I dug deep and asked them to give me a minute to think about it. This was a big decision! When a minute or two was up, somehow I spit out the words Housewife Glamour and asked if housewifeglamour.com was available. It was, and I went on to see if I could use that name on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. to identify myself by.
Since housewifeglamour is one flipping little letter too long for a twitter handle, I shortened it to hwglamour and that is who you know and follow today.
The name had a clear vision. GLAMOUR. I love everything about the meaning of the word, and especially the magazine. If you open an issue, these are the topics you can expect to read about:
Considering the focus of my blog, I knew it was the perfect word to include. So where did housewife come from?
I would be lying if I said I did not cringe every so often when share the title of my blog, especially to men. The last thing I want to come across as is someone who writes about sitting at home all day, because I can assure you this is not the case. So fellas, read on!
The word housewife only came into play because of what I like to write about. Recipes, home decoration, budgeting, beauty, etc. Think about this blog as being an online “housewife” edition of the magazine.
I have always wanted a career that allows me to work at home, be there to raise our children, and to be the person I was before children entered the picture… i.e. “glamorous”. I quote it, because it is hard for me to say that word to describe myself without giggling a little. C’mon!
Whether I like it or not, I have earned the title from a variety of different people and decided to roll with it. I am here to share how to be glamorous, and not just skin deep. Feeling good is even more important than looking good to me, and that, my friends, is what makes you glamorous.
I write Housewife Glamour to inspire anyone and everyone to join the healthy living lifestyle by introducing quick and healthy meals, snacks, recipes and workouts you could easily incorporate into a hectic schedule. Every once in a while you will come across a fashion post, but those are mostly to highlight my latest budget finds. I believe you do not have to spend a lot of money on clothes to look and feel good!
Whatever you get out of reading this blog, I hope it inspires you to do what makes you feel good. I am 27 years old, and to be completely honest, have never felt happier. Living a healthy and active lifestyle is my world, and I am surrounded by such positive, beaming people in the health and fitness communities! Hopefully you too, are along for the ride.
So there it is everyone, the story behind the name.
Read. Enjoy. Get your glamour on!

I usually end up really behind on the blogs I follow because I like to try to leave comments. It’s always such a fantastic feeling when people do it for me, so I like to return the favor! This is a great idea for a challenge!sewing machine for kids
