Hi friend!
I’m Heather, and like many of you, I am a wife, a mom, and am doing my best to choose what’s best for my family. Also like many of you, I am selective about what I put in my body, but I didn’t really think about what I put on my body. I had no idea how harmful everyday products like makeup, sunscreen, shampoo, and lotion could be, and that – essentially – what you use can eventually seep into your bloodstream.
Like the majority of those I speak with, you might assume that our current beauty laws protect us enough to be able to buy the essentials that help us live our best lives. I did too. Well, the truth is, there aren’t many regulations in the beauty industry at all. Companies are allowed to use known toxins that link to cancer, infertility, asthma, hormone disruption, and more. And the worst part about it is that they don’t have to disclose this.
- Decades of studies indicate that serious health issues (like cancer, infertility, and asthma) are on the rise and due in some part to our ongoing exposure to toxic chemicals?
- The U.S. has not passed a major federal law governing the cosmetics industry since 1938? (Um, that’s 80 years.)
- There are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market today (particularly true of those used in the skincare and beauty industries), and many don’t have any safety data.
- The European Union has banned or restricted 1,400 ingredients from personal care products. The U.S. has banned or restricted 30. (Yikes.)
- The FDA does not have the authority to remove harmful ingredients from the products we put on our bodies every day … (until the laws change, and see below.)
I know. It’s a lot to process. It gets better, I promise.
In fact … we all deserve better, and this short video sums it all up.
And this is exactly why I’ve decided to partner with Beautycounter.
The products are top-notch, are highly effective, and are beautiful, all while being safer-for-you and friendly to the environment. But there’s so much more to it than that.
Beautycounter has a mission to get safer products into the hands of everyone and to literally clean up the beauty industry.
“The entire beauty industry has been built on secrets, and we’re trying to undo that.” — @greggrenfrew, Founder & CEO
We’re helping to change laws to ban more harmful ingredients that we don’t realize we’re using every day. We’re researching where the ingredients to make beauty products are coming from, and following every step of the sourcing process to eliminate things like child labor. We’ve promised to deliver high-performing products that you can substitute for anything in your makeup bag or skincare routine, and we’ve promised to steer clear of over 1,8000 harmful ingredients to do so.
I became a consultant for this company to feel good about what I’m putting on my skin, to get a great discount on the products, and to share my reviews and journey. I knew that Beautycounter is trying to change the world to make it better for all of us, but I had NO IDEA how impactful the strides already are.
I had a turning point almost five years ago when I finally turned the product labels that I swore by around, thanks to my first introduction to Beautycounter at a friend’s house. I found out what was in everything that I was using, including harmful chemicals, toxins, and a lot of things that I couldn’t even pronounce. Not great. You can read more about the story in .
I couldn’t tell you why I didn’t make a bigger change YEARS ago besides having an all-or-nothing mindset. I wanted to replace everything that I was using all at once, and I felt like it was impossible and too expensive. But, it’s not at all. And that’s where I can help you with a starting point that fits in your budget.
