Hi friends! I hope your Tuesday has started off on a great note.
My day started early with my second sunrise class at Xtend Barre, and I am currently coming to you from Starbucks. That’s how I reward myself for getting up so early. It’s a fantastic cycle.
Last week, I was overwhelmed (in the best way) with the response I got from my Keeping It Real Vlog. I randomly decided to film it and several hours later (You Tube problems), there it was. It seems like a lot of you enjoy me rambling about the ins and outs of life, which kind of surprises me, but I’m so glad you do.
Since then, I have received several requests to do a “Day in the Life” type of post and you finally cracked me. Congratulations! (Ha.)
Although I share a lot of my personal life and daily whereabouts on the blog, I have never done a full breakdown of what a day looks like for me.
A lot of people have the misconception that professional bloggers or people that work at home are “so lucky”, and believe me… I enjoy the flexibility and consider it to be a luxury. But, in doing so, that is not to be confused with having it “easier” than someone else.
Just like I mentioned in the vlog, you can’t compare your life to others and think you are doing something wrong or better just because your day doesn’t look like someone else’s day. That’s silly. For that reason, I have kept my distance from these types of posts in the past.
Let me just preface this by saying that no two days look the same. Every week day involves different types of activities and projects. I think it would be good for me to revisit a “Day in the Life” post again in a few weeks, just to show you a variety in what my job(s) entail.
Since I am still in a transition of moving from professional dancer to certified personal trainer, I feel like my days are especially jumbled right now. I think it will be interesting to look back on these posts in the future and see how life changes for me. So thanks for joining the ride… let’s roll!
Monday Sept. 29th, 2014
What a typical Monday looks like.
6:00 a.m.: Alarm goes off. No chance I’m getting up. Snooze time.
6:15 a.m.: Finally get movin’. High sock bun and leggings for the win!
6:35 a.m.: Pour pre-made coffee (thank goodness for program settings) in a to-go cup and heat up oatmeal to take with me.
6:38 a.m.: Share morning blog post on all social media channels. (Typed it up the night before and scheduled it to go live at 6:20 a.m.) BOOM.
6:40 a.m.: Head out the door towards the arena to get ready and leave for an event in Detroit.
8:15 a.m.: School show with HOOPER. Take pictures, assist wherever I’m needed, and make sure the client is happy with the performance.
10 a.m.: Arrive back at the Palace, unload, head back home.
10:20 a.m.: Heat up whatever coffee is left and make breakfast #2.
10:30 a.m.: Eat breakfast while uploading photo of it on Instagram (Happy belated National Coffee Day!)
10:45 a.m.: Make bed, tidy up our room and clean out litter box.
10:50 a.m.: Read comments on morning blog post and respond to them.
11 a.m.: Go through my Bloglovin’ feed and catch up on my reading! Leave comments on other blogs and websites.
11:30 a.m.: Check e-mail. Respond to anything that is time sensitive.
11:45 a.m.: Check Twitter and respond to notifications. Make a mental note to go back and scroll through my feed later. (I really need to step up my Twitter game!)
11:50 a.m.: Get on Facebook and do the same thing. Get sucked into random status updates and posts for a bit. Snap myself out of it.
Noon: Time to get to work. Check all of my networks and apply for campaigns I am interested in participating in!
12:30 p.m.: Start drafting this post.
12:48 p.m.: Realize I barely slept the night before and am in dire need of a power nap. Eyelids are closing. Allow myself a snuggle and quick refresh break.
(Literally haven’t done this in months! Of course it’s on a day I’m tracking and sharing with you. Ha! Figures.)
1:15 p.m.: Get up and put shoes on to take Roadie for his afternoon walk. Rolling around in the grass is a given.
1:30-1:55 p.m.: Prepare, eat and clean up lunch.
(Three cheers for leftovers!)
2 p.m.: Write afternoon blog post.
(Start playing the Spotify and making playlists game throughout my afternoon on the computer. I do this on a daily basis. Yesterday I created a new Classics list I’m currently obsessed with.)
3 p.m.: Snack break.
3:10 p.m.: Finish writing blog post. Whew, this is taking a while…
Sometimes I hate the perfectionist side of my personality. I have to edit every single photo and make sure all of my paragraphs line up nicely. It’s kind of a problem.
4:10 p.m.: Edit and publish blog post. Finally!
4:30 p.m.: Scroll through Bloglovin’ again and finish catching up in the community. Supporting and showing up on blogs is a great way to get your name out there and continue growing your readership!
5:00 p.m.: Set out for a training run with Roadie. Expected it to be an easy 4 miles in beautiful weather.
5:45 p.m.: Get in from our run. Wasn’t the best. A bug flew INTO my eye within the first two minutes. Apparently, this turns me into a thug.
I stopped for a minute or two, but then decided I was going to power through. Screw that fly. Get outta here with that.
We took a new running route and got stuck trying to cross the street. I also let Roadie rest for a good while half way through. It was warm out.
Basically, I gave up all hope of timing the run. Eh, whatcha gonna do.
6:00 p.m.: Cool-down, stretch and shower. Look somewhat presentable… but still rocking the (extra dirty) high bun.
6:30 p.m.: Put together a healthy snack for my (new) small bible study group. It’s been so great!
6:50 p.m.: Quickly heat up dinner, then get out the door. I swear this Amy’s burrito tastes better than it looks! (Really though, it does.)
7:30 – 9:15 p.m.: Bible Study! I have absolutely loved diving into the Word with this small group of women. <3
9:30 p.m.: Drive past Meijer and contemplate on going in. We need groceries and toiletries something serious. I decide I’m tired and will save that trip for tomorrow.
9:45 p.m.: Get home and work on an invoice I forgot to send out earlier.
10:00 p.m.: Check emails and blog comments and respond to them.
10:30 p.m.: Take my foam roller upstairs, put on an episode of Friends (I’ve seen a million times), foam roll and stretch until my body stops hurting.
(Training always takes a toll on my muscles!)
11:00 p.m.: Brush my teeth and get into bed. Set my alarm for the morning and put my cell phone far away from me. If I don’t I’ll be on it for another thirty minutes for no reason at all.
11:30 p.m.: Finally start falling asleep. Goodnight!
So yeah, that just about sums it up. Also on my list of things to do yesterday was study for my CPT exam, finish my book for Book Club, throw in some laundry, and run by the grocery store. It’s crazy how fast days go by.
Since I work from home, I tend to feel guilty if I’m not working the entire time I am home and Scott’s away, so I am pretty good at trying to stay on track. Like I mentioned above, no two days are alike, so if you enjoyed this post let me know. I’d love to continue the series down the road and see how my life changes as it naturally progresses into new jobs and adventures. I guess that’s it for now…
See ya later!
