Hello! I am coming to you from the gym this afternoon and am done with work for the day. I just finished my own workout too, which I’ll be sure to share more about later this week.
I have a break before I need to get to the grocery store and then home, so I figured I’d pop in with a lighthearted post today. I don’t know where it came from, but I have been thinking about childhood memories all day. I hope this post brings you a chuckle!
For whatever reason, I started thinking about certain things, games, or even shows I became attached to while growing up that will never get old to me. I can’t be the only one that holds onto things like this!
Just for fun, let’s talk about objects from our childhood that will never get old. Ready?
Things From Childhood That Will Never Get Old
• popsicles & slurpees
Someone brought two boxes of popsicles to our bible study last week, and you would have thought she was handing out money. We all got so excited, especially when we saw the bomb pops! I loved popsicles as a child and still buy them from time to time. I don’t think that will ever change!
Don’t even get me started on slurpees, either. I would be lying if I said I didn’t have at least one a week. It’s ridiculous.
There’s something about coloring that is really therapeutic for me. Whether it’s with crayons, markers, or colored pencils, I always forget how much I love to color until the opportunity arises.
(Even if it’s at Macaroni Grill as an adult. Whoops.)
You better believe our kids will have a wide variety of coloring books available! (<- quite possibly for me too…)
• dressing up like superheroes
My friend Christine sent this picture to me today.
A group of us girls are going up north to attend a retreat this weekend, so we wanted to theme out our cabin’s pajama night. Clearly, team superheroes seems like the best option.
I saw legos on Erin’s blog earlier this week, and it instantly made me want to go build something. Ahhh, weren’t legos the best?
My sister and I were obsessed. We played so much that my dad eventually built a lego table that was basically a short coffee table lined with green lego bases with a hammock holding a container of legos underneath. Everyone wanted to play with legos any time they came over! Gosh, I miss them.
• throwback cartoons and television shows
I’ll admit that I watched Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Doug, and Sponge Bob along with a variety of sitcoms longer that I probably should have. Any time I happen to catch an old re-run of one of those shows, I can’t help but to tune in. Okay, maybe not the cartoons, but the television shows for sure!
My favorite was TGIF on ABC or SNICK on Nickelodeon with the line up of shows like Clarissa Explains It All, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Step By Step, Full House, Family Matters, and Are You Afraid of the Dark?
• board games
As a child, I loved playing board games any time I was with a large group of people. Chutes & Ladders, Monopoly, Scrabble, Clue, Sorry, you name it – we played. I am really looking forward to the day Scott and I have a family game night of our own and whip out the board games.
• Disney movies
While we’re on the subject, I could seriously watch any classic Disney cartoon at any given time. 101 Dalmations, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Cinderella, Pocahontus, they’re all so great!
I used to babysit in college and loved nights we curled up on the couch with a good ‘ol Disney movie. I’d still do that for free. Suckers.
• slap bracelets
I’m not saying I will be sporting one any time soon, but really… how great were slap bracelets? I don’t get to come into contact with them often, but when I do… it’s way more entertaining than it should be.
• Boy band hits & ballads
I’m sorry, but they just won’t ever get old. If I’m ever in a bad mood, all I have to do is turn to an old N*SYNC, Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block, or 98° album to cheer me up.
Call be a baby, but I am always surrounded by blankets at home. I’m completely fine without them, but if I am at home on our couch, it’s blanket time any time I’m not on my feet.
That’s how it’s always been and that’s how it will always be!
Well kids, it’s been fun strolling down memory lane with you, but I’ve got to get going. I’ll see you back on the blog with actual content tomorrow morning. 😉
Have a great night!
