Hello strangers and Happy Friday!
I know I’ve been pretty MIA lately. Life has been busier than ever, so I appreciate you popping in to chat on the blog today.
After a year in the City, I finally made it back for a trip back home to Orlando over Mother’s Day Weekend. It was so great to see my family and celebrate special events with them including my niece’s Spring Dance Concert, my sister’s 40th birthday, and Mother’s Day.
As soon as I got back to New York, I hopped on a conference call and walked to work. The very next day, Scott’s dad and step-mom arrived for a 5-day stay with us in Brooklyn. While it’s been crazy, it’s been so nice to have family around!
All of that said, I’ve been doing my best to soak up the life and people around me. I haven’t had the free time to dedicate as much time as I would like to the blog, but I do hope that changes soon. I really miss you guys!
While this isn’t everything I’ve been up to, this week’s Friday Favorites includes some of the highlights over the last week or so. Don’t forget to link up at the bottom, and as always, I’d love to hear what you’ve been loving in the comments section, too.
Friday Favorites #177: Week of 5/26
• Little Italy – NYC
Since Scott’s parents were in town, we did a lot of walking last weekend. A lot. One of the places they really wanted to see while in the City was Little Italy. Kay had been here before, so we followed her lead on where she’d like to go and spent the afternoon surrounded by delicious Italian food at Angelo’s, gelato, and baked goods. I can’t really complain!
After posting this photo on Instagram, my friend, Ashley, let me know that there is another Little Italy in The Bronx. I loved our time on Mulberry Street, so I’m exited to train up to Arthur Avenue to see more Italian streets and eats!
• better brella
After several unfortunate, wet days with cheaply-made umbrellas in the City, Scott and I decided that it was time to invest a set of quality umbrellas that actually keeps us dry. When you don’t use a car to get from point A to point B, it’s important to have the tools you need to avoid the weather ruining your day!
Two better brellas arrived a few weeks ago, and I finally took mine for a spin during a rainy walk to work yesterday. The beauty of the design is that it folds upside down and inside out, keeping all of the water inside and off of you. It’s super easy to use and really works.
I had no idea that Scott got both of these for $30 (plus shipping and handling), but it’s a killer deal. If you’re in the market to stay dry on your commutes (with or without a car), I highly recommend it!
• Project Equinox Nike Master Trainer Workout
This week, I was invited to Hyperice Movement Project, a Project by Equinox VIP class hosted by Nike Trainers Kirsty Godso and Lauren Williams. It was an exclusive 90-minute workout and recovery class that included a warm-up and cool-down using the latest HYPERICE movement pieces like the Vyper and Hyposphere.
I’d never seen a foam roller or tissue ball that vibrates before, so I was looking forward to giving them a go. The trainers led us through a series of movements before and after the HIIT exercises, and I have to say that adding vibration takes the whole experience to another level. My body felt so great!
As for the workout, it was a challenging one. We completed several times circuits that included exercises like pull-ups, single-leg burpees, and medicine ball slams to froggers to push-ups. Yeah, it was intense … but I left feeling like a bada**, so there’s that.
I’m glad I made it out and had a little mid-week workout treat. Thanks for the invite, Project by Equinox!
I forgot how much I absolutely love this shaving cream until I ran out of it years ago and tried it again while visiting my parents a few weeks ago. My mom always has new-to-me products to try, and I was happy to see an oldie but goodie resurface.
The cream makes the chore of shaving much more pleasant and always leaves my legs feeling smooth!
• Fresh Meal Plan
This week, our members at the studio received a treat in the form of samples from Fresh Meal Plan. They set up a table in our lobby, so I spent a good amount of time talking to the vendor about the food and service. The easiest way to break it all down is they send you freshly-made meals of your choosing to your doorstep.
Simply choose your preferences online, pick the meal plan that works for you (from two to six meals per day), heat and enjoy your meals. I love the idea of this since Scott and I rarely have the time to cook and eat meals together these days. I’m usually scrambling late after work or ordering lunch in, so I really like the option of a service like this that guarantees well-balanced, affordable meals.
(Apple & Pecan Crusted Pork with brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes)
I’m strongly considering signing up for the service myself, and if this is something that you’re looking for, I can attest that the food tastes great!
