Happy 4th of July! Here in America, we dedicate a day to celebrate our country’s independence and today is the day. Berries have been available for a shockingly low price lately, and I have been using them in my dishes like nobody’s business.
Knowing today is going to be filled with cookouts and backyard barbeques, I wanted to put together a list of fresh fruit sides to bring to your celebration. These would most likely adorn the all-American cheeseburger or hot dog… but it’s worth a shot to sneak some fresh fruit into the party right? 😉
1. American Flag Brownies
Without a fancy recipe to share, this red, white and blue American Flag design is easy to replicate atop any kind of brownies, cake or pie.
2. Low-Fat Strawberry Jello Salad
With temperatures rising into the high 90s here in Orlando, it’s nice to offer friends and family a nice cold dessert. Using low-fat jello, low-fat whip cream and low-fat sour cream, this healthy Strawberry Jello Salad recipe is on repeat in my family!
3. Honey Mint Fruit Salad
Here is another type of fruit salad that lets you decided what kind of fresh fruit to include. With a light yogurt dressing and a splash of honey and mint, the Honey Mint Fruit Salad has gotten great reviews from friends and family.
4. Rainbow Fruit Kabobs
Making the rainbow design can be fun, but you can take it a step further for any holiday. To show some patriotic pride, you could use strawberries, red grapes, blueberries and bananas if you want to stick with the red, white and blue theme.
5. White Wine Sangria
This no fail sangria recipe received compliments at both of my jewelry parties. You can get creative and choose fourth inspired colored fruit by using strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and red grapes instead of green. To serve sangria, I stick a large bunch of grapes in the freezer and drop a few into each glass to keep the drink cool.
Works like a charm!
We don’t have any specific plans today… and I can’t really complain about it. Scott and I hope to take Roadie somewhere, maybe even to a trip over to New Smyrna Beach. They have a dog-friendly section of the beach we have been itching to try out.
Whatever you do today, enjoy it!
Melinda
Enjoy the 4th
The recipes look great
