Hello, and Happy Friday!
Today is a very bittersweet one for me. As you’re reading this, I am most likely already a few appointments into my very last day working as a personal trainer at my gym in Rochester Hills, Michigan. (More on that below!)
As we gear up for a move next week (!!!) there have been a lot of emotions pouring out this week, and I have a feeling that they will only continue to surface. Moving is very exciting, yet very sad and terrifying all at once.
Now that we’ve gotten that introduction out of the way, how about we take a step back and focus on things that made us smile? The close of every work week always brings on a new Friday Favorites post, and I encourage you to join in on the party by chiming in with your personal faves in the comments and link-up sections.
Here we go!
Friday Favorites #135: Week of 4/1
• working at Rock City Fitness
Almost immediately after I got my certification in personal training, I started working out at a personal training facility called Rock City Fitness. What initially started as an honest review of their 30-day introductory program quickly developed into an opportunity that I will always hold close to my heart.
I wanted to get certified to have the science and credentials behind creating workouts to share on the blog, but I had no idea that I would actually want to become a personal trainer until I somehow fell into the opportunity, thanks to my amazing mentor and boss, Eric.
I have been training clients at Rock City for just about a year and four months, and it’s been such a great experience. I learned so much and quickly fell for the positive and encouraging community day in and day out.
With all of that said, you can imagine how today isn’t an easy one for me.
It’s fun (yet scary) to know that my life will be changing, and a piece of me will always remain back in Michigan and with the gym where I first learned how to train my own clients. Countless great memories, friendships, jokes, and sweat sessions took place here.
Thank you, Eric, for taking me under your personal training wing. I will miss RCF so much!
• the Invictus Games
In just a little over a month, Scott and I will be traveling to Orlando for a special reason!
The Invictus Games is an annual event that was started in London by Prince Harry just last year. (Yes, that’s Prince Harry of The Royal Family.) As a former serviceman, he wanted to create a series of events that gave wounded warriors and incredible athletes a chance to compete, encourage, and support each other in a whole new way.
(Watch this video or this video and prepared to be inspired.)
Scott has been a big part of the Sports Presentation team for this year’s event, and I have been helping him form an all-star dance team set to perform throughout the games. To say we are looking forward to it would be the understatement of the year.
If you’re in the Orlando area and want to witness raw emotion, dedication, and athletic passion, check out this event going on at Disney’s Wide World of Sports May 8 – 12th! #InvictusGames2016
• Mediterranean food
One thing I can’t get enough of over the last couple of weeks is Mediterranean food.
When we’re not eating all of the leftovers, we’ve been visiting our favorite local fast casual restaurant, 2941 Mediterranean Street Food. Man, I’m going to miss that place. I could seriously eat milled rice, picked vegetables, diced meats, and that side of fresh cucumber, tomato, olive, and feta salad all day long.
Also, hummus. All the hummus, please.
*Swoon*
• friends who are also box fairies
We are so grateful for our friends and my clients who have graciously donated tons of boxes and packing supplies. Over the past few weeks, we haven’t had to restock on boxes, and that is huge.
Anyone who has made a big move before understands how much moving supplies adds up, and quickly. Thank you, thank you to everyone who was kind enough to donate or even bring us boxes and such. You rock!
And, finally … guess what?
• We’re moving to New York City!
After a lot of sleepless nights and countless hours of conversations, Scott and I have decided to take a leap of faith and move to the Big Apple!
If you’ve been following the blog over the past few years, then you already know that we love being in big cities. (Check out the Travel page for recent travel highlights!)
To make a long story short, the New York City area stole both of our hearts a long, long time ago. You probably could have guessed that given the amount of times we have recently visited.
With Scott’s career background and side business thriving in the professional sports and entertainment industries, it’s been a dream of his to live and work in New York or Los Angeles since before I met him. It’s never seemed like a realistic possibility until just a few months ago.
I’ll be back to talk more about our decision to move and how we came up with NYC as the destination early next week! We’re nervous, but ridiculously excited to embark on our new adventure together over to the Northeast!

Is it simply me or do a few of the responses come
