Hi there! I hope you have all had a great week. This has been an eventful one!
I’m really excited to dive back into Friday Favorites today and appreciate your ongoing support of this space so, so much. In case you missed it, I shared an update of what the last several months have looked like for me yesterday. My plan was to draft this post last night, but I chose sleep (gloooorious sleep) instead, and have been working to finish this post off and on throughout breaks today. The idea of that really frustrated me in the past, but I’ll take what I can get these days and I am happy to be present here when I can.
Also, THANK YOU for the sweet comments and encouragement left here and on LIL’s social pages. Y’all are seriously the best.
I don’t have too many plans on deck for the weekend outside of a date night with Scott tonight and an event at the studio tomorrow after our normal workouts. We’re hosting a Dri-Tri that consists of running a 5K (3.1 miles), rowing 2000 meters, and completing 300 reps on the floor. Is anyone else signed up for the Dri-Tri? Orangetheory Fitness studios are holding them across the nation, and I’m looking forward to seeing the results from our hardworking members!
And with that, let’s roll onto this week’s faves. Happy Friday!

• blueberry salad
Scott’s been on a major dessert kick lately, specifically on mini desserts. We don’t get to cook much together, but I’ve been coming home to random homemade treats throughout the last few weeks, and I’m not mad about it. During a recent blizzard, he made mini pineapple upside down cakes which that tasted incredible. This week he made his step-mom’s popular blueberry salad.
I actually shared the recipe a few years ago here on the blog! It’s a great option to bring to get togethers, and I loved making it with Kay during the first Thanksgiving we hosted back in Detroit. I included a few suggestions to cut back on the sweetness in the recipe if you’re watching your sugar content. Jello lovers — enjoy!
• Downy unstopables
Because, yes, great-smelling laundry deserves an entire paragraph in this post. Something that always makes me smile on my walk through the neighborhood is a whiff of laundry detergent when I pass dryer exhausts. Is that weird? I can’t be the only one who thinks this, so I’ll just pretend we’re all on the same page here. Cool.
Anyways, we just started doing our own towel service laundry at work, and I was asked to order for an extra burst of scent!
We just use a small sprinkle per load, but it makes such a big difference. I’m adding them to my next Amazon order, pronto. Total win.
• Doughnut Plant
Speaking of desserts, there’s a well-known doughnut shop right across the street from the studio in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Any time Scott comes in for a workout, we somehow end up at Doughnut Plant afterwards. Way to kick off the after burn, right?
The picture above features the new strawberry and pistachio doughnuts (which I tried a few bites of and are delicious), but my all time favorites are the peanut butter and jam and tres leches. I love that the company makes their own fillings and jams in-house while avoiding any artificial colors and flavorings. They also label what kind of doughnut you’re trying by yeast, cake, and doughseed so you aren’t surprised when you bite into something new.
I definitely recommend a stop in!
• elchim professional hair dryer
Some of you may remember my few mentions of a local hair salon I adore and frequent called hairstories. The staff is the nicest, and I’m excited to have an ongoing partnership with them to supply quality hair products for our members at the studio. I absolutely love my hair when I get blowouts there, so I placed an order for the same professional hair dryers they use for the beauty stations at the studio, too. After using them a few times, I just had to get one for myself at home!
It’s called the and comes in all black, all white, and red and black. The owner of hairstories, however, sent me that offers the same model in red and black for half the price. I didn’t care what mine looks like at home, so I went with that one. It’s the best hair dryer I’ve found yet.
• SkyYoga at One World Observatory
You guys. I had the best New York moment yesterday. While living here can get exhausting at times, it’s so nice to take a step back and realize the beauty that this busy city entails. My good blogging friend, Ashley, invited Evann and I to a one-of-a-kind experience that I couldn’t say no to — SkyYoga at One Wold Observatory, hosted by Equinox.
I shared some of the views in real time on Instastories and Shapchat yetserday (<- follow me @lifenleggings!), and even those snippets can’t show you how truly amazing the space is. While Scott and I have visited the One World Trade Center and Memorial before, this was my first time taking the elevator all the way up to the 102nd floor to the Observatory.
We walked into a beautiful, calm space that overlooked all angles and boroughs of New York City and New Jersey. It was breathtaking. It had been a hot minute since I had been able to practice yoga, and this was the perfect way to get back into it. Tickets to this event cost $30, and it was one hundred percent worth it. I’d love to go again and share the experience with Scott and others.
I’m not sure how often you can attend, but I think there will be more opportunities to go in the future. If I hear of them, I’ll definitely share the details!
• iPic
Last up today is another New York experience in the form a of an upscale movie theater called iPic, located in Fulton Market in Manhattan. A friend recommended that Scott and I check it out for a date night and I’m so glad I did. Basically, you get dinner and a movie all in one stop. There are different ticket options, all of which include a private space with blankets and pillows. Some seats feature a table service where you can order menu items from the upstairs restaurant including heavy appetizers, entrees, house-made desserts, and a full service bar.
They’re located all over the United States, and I believe we paid $32 per seat, which isn’t any more than you would pay to see a movie in Downtown Manhattan.
(We got the second tier that included the recliners and table service. Pictured is the tier below, which is still very awesome.)
Since I opened at work today, we have tickets to a late afternoon movie, and the difficulties of finding dinner before or after are now solved with during. The food items are fancier than what you would expect at your typical movie theater, and I’m looking forward to trying more tonight. And oh yeah, we’re seeing Beauty and the Beast!
Can. not. wait. (woot!)

Welcome back, Heather! We’ve missed you! I totally remember what it was like working at a new Orangetheory studio — SO busy! I can imagine you are in need of some free time, so it makes sense that blogging got put to the back burner for a while. As far as your faves — so I TOTALLY a new hairdryer with one of those attachments, because it really seems to speed up the process. Thanks for the tip. Enjoy your date-night with Scott! Happy Friday! 🙂

Some of the houses in my subdivision have their dryer vents exit through the front of their houses and I get SO excited if I’m walking my dog down the street and can smell the scent of Downy in the air because someone is doing their laundry! LOL You are not alone in that! I, too, love the Unstoppables.

I’m catching on your posts right now 🙂 I also did the Dri-Tri almost 2 week end ago! I believe it was my first time doing a sport competition in my adult years! I’ve never been the competitive type (I am competitive with myself) but I have to say that I really enjoyed it! lol However I was not in my best shape (back hurts and I had a cold) but I did better than I though I would! Next time, I will crush it 🙂
