Good morning and Happy Friday!
Can you believe that this is the last round of Friday Favorites, in 2017?! Madness. I’m sure a lot of you are wondering where the heck the year went, as I’m sitting here scratching my head asking myself the same question. Even so, I’m very excited to see what 2018 has in store for us, and I have a feeling that it will be the best one yet with a new a new family member coming into our lives in March!
It’s been a frigid week in New York, and temperatures have dropped down to the teens in the mornings and nights. I have to admit that I’m a little nervous to go out in weather like that for New Year’s Eve. Talk about timing … it was at least in the 50s for Christmas! The cold couldn’t have held off an extra week, huh? Oh well — here goes nothing!
I hope you all have a wonderful last weekend of the year and ring in 2018 with loved ones. Here’s what I’ve been loving lately, and I’ll see you on the other side of the ball drop!
Friday Favorites #195: Week of 12/29
• custom map picture
I wanted to give something special to both sets of Scott’s parents this Christmas. Among a box of other items, I included a small heart picture frame that featured a heart made of our location and theirs. Since they don’t necessarily live in areas that would be considered easily recognizable on a map, I messaged the Etsy shop seller to see if she could create a heart with the locations I needed and I had a great customer service experience.
I ended up ordering an additional frame with three hearts without the writing for Scott. These three hearts represent the area he’s from on the left (Northwest Arkansas/Southwest Missouri), where I’m from on the right (Orlando), and where we live now (Brooklyn/NYC) in the middle.
I probably could have made this type of gift, but I didn’t have the time, materials or patience to do so this holiday season. The frames came a little smaller than I realized, but the actual measurements are included right on the order description. We’ll be finding a good home for our hearts in our apartment soon!
• Easy BBQ Enchiladas recipe
I haven’t been in the kitchen as much as I’d like to lately, but I’m hoping that will change sooner than later. This week I teamed up with Kraft to recreate one of their recipes and quickly found one I had to try at home. This Easy BBQ Chicken Enchiladas recipe features their Kraft BBQ sauce and shredded cheddar cheese, and was relatively easy to throw together for a tasty dinner I think the whole family will love!
The recipe called for corn tortillas, which I prefer to use anyways, and I have to note that I always have trouble keeping those little guys folded or rolled without breaking. Any tips?
Anyways, I’d never thought to add barbecue sauce to enchiladas before and the combination was delicious. I took the leftovers to work and have been enjoying it all week long!
• tassel earrings
Since I actually have plans for New Year’s Eve this year, I’ve been attempting to piece an outfit together that matches the outing. I was looking for a pair of gold statement earrings (before the predicted temperatures dropped to the teens and I had to start all over), and my friend suggested that I check out Arlo and Arrows.
It’s a darling online shop that features accessories, clothes, and statement jewelry. I ordered the ‘Mia’ Gold Tassels Earrings (currently sold out) and the ‘Miss Doak’ Tassel Earrings (only $9!) because I couldn’t pick just one. I’m not sure if I’ll still be needing gold accessories since my dress and shoes changed, but I’ll definitely be keeping these pieces for future events and outings. I’m loving the tassel look!
• What Do You Meme party game
Are any of you fans of the popular party game ? If so, you’re going to LOVE this one!
is a funny, slightly inappropriate card game that has already proven to be a good time at one of our holiday parties. Just like Cards Against Humanity, each player gets seven caption cards to match to a chosen meme and the dealer picks the best card to go along with the picture. The person who played that card gets the picture card, and the first one to collect ten picture cards wins!
I won this game in a White Elephant gift exchange, and it was a fantastic pick. Know your audience, of course, but I think this game would be a great gift for those who host a parties or might need an activity while waiting for the ball to drop on New Year’s Eve!
• Casetify MacBook Air case
I haven’t always had the best luck with laptop cases for my MacBook Air. I’ve gone through two of them since I first purchased it years ago because the bottom keeps popping off or breaking after a few months. I finally turned to Casetify after loving my Gold Flecked Marble phone case since the summer, and I have been a huge fan over the last couple of weeks.
Golden Dots Clear MacBook Air Case
I will say that the dots look less gold and more tan in person, which I was slightly bummed about. Even so, it’s been the best one yet, and I’ve had a great experience with Casetify. If you’re in need of a restock on cases, make sure to take advantage of 20% off orders $80 or more and 30% off orders $100 or more (ends today!) with the promo code BYE2017.
