Hi there and a Happy Friday to you!
It’s already been an eventful one over here. I took the boys out early for a long walk to see the ducks at the park, and we got caught in a torrential downpour. Skyler fell asleep totally unfazed under his rain cover bubble in the stroller, but Roadie and I powered through for what I’m guessing to be two and a half miles of walking in the rain. It was oddly refreshing. Skyler was still napping when we got home, so I gave Roadie a bath, I took a shower, and I mopped the apartment. It’s all completely random, but not a bad way to start the morning if you ask me.
Now that Skyler’s fighting his normal nap time, I figured I’d try to hop on and finish today’s edition of Friday Favorites to share while I can. I’ll get better at setting posts to publish automatically in the mornings again. Hopefully. It’s crazy to think that there used to be a new post up every weekday morning by 6 a.m. for years!
I guess you can say that a lot has changed since then.
That said, I’m so thankful for the opportunity to be able to work at home with Skyler right now, and for the chance to get out and work with him on projects, too! We had a fun adventure shooting photos (in masks) for the reopening of a local venue this week. So I guess there is light at the end of the tunnel for NYC in regards to being in Phase 4 and closer to a “new” normal!
I’m also just as grateful for all of you who click over here week after week. You are the reason that I continue to show up and share as much as I do. I hope you have a great weekend ahead, and I’d love to hear about one thing that made you smile this week in the comments below.
LATEST FAVES — QUARANTINE WEEK 19
- a day in Rockaway Beach
Scott and I joke that we’ve been to the beach more in the last three months than we have in the last four years of living in Brooklyn, but it’s true. And before last weekend, we had only ventured out to Coney Island, which is only a quick subway ride away.
Last Saturday, we got wind that Rockaway Beach was pretty easy to get to as well. You have the option to take a ferry ride, and the whole trip was stress-free and worth the minimal effort to make.
We have every intention of returning, as the beach was calm and beautiful. Everyone kept to themselves, socially-distanced style.
We had a great time and a day in the sun reminded me how good a little Vitamin D is for the soul.
- happy mail
I have the sweetest friends. I’ve gotten a few surprises in the mail over the last month or so, and you’ll see another gift highlighted below. I shared Scott’s quote “it’s a good day to have a good day” on social not too long ago, and I don’t realize how many people see those posts until something like this comes along.
My dear friend Ashley sent this happy phrase pouch over to me and it made me smile so big. Isn’t it adorable? The brand is Mud Pie and here are some similar ones. It really is the little things that make the biggest impact these days.
- in case you missed it … (clean beauty news)
And speaking of happy mail, if you’ve been curious or wanting to try products from my very favorite clean beauty line, I have a few different sample sets ready to go! I need to restock a bit, but there are plenty of Countertime Regimens and Counterman (because men need some self-care, too!) sets to distribute, and I’ll throw in the Overnight Resurfacing Peel until I run out. Reach out with what you’d like and I’ll send it over to ya!
Also, in case you missed the news, you are now able to test out some of the best-sellers in your local Sephora store! A select amount of products will be available to see in person and purchase in Sephora retail stores for a limited time starting next month.
And finally, the Countertime Deluxe Mini Set launched last week and it sold out in half a day! People have been absolutely obsessed with this anti-aging line (read my ), and the travel sized option is so good to have on hand. Don’t worry, however, they will be back. And I’ll make sure that y’all are the first to know! Just to my Beautycounter newsletter and you’ll be good to go.

PERSONAL FAVES
Just in case you’re in need of some product inspo, here are my latest blog posts that highlight my top picks for clean makeup and safer skincare …
- the sweetest tribute to Aspen
This one showed up in the mail the week after we had to say goodbye to our family kitty of twelve years. It was a hard time for all of us, and we were so happy to open up a surprise in the mail and see the sweetest tribute to our fur baby.
Thank you to our best friends from Detroit, Alex and Alex for sending it over, and to the artist Jordan Doodler. She’s so talented, and what a great way to help feel like she’s still with us!
Skyler was especially fond of the picture, so we decided to put it on his bookshelf next to his favorite books and keepsakes.
- latest workouts
I felt slightly more on track with my workouts this week. I didn’t get as much running in as I would have liked, but it was extra hot outside and Scott was away from home more than usual. Those factors usually push me to work out inside with Skyler nearby, so I tend to do what I can, when I can.
Here’s what unfolded …
Friday: Low Impact Full Body HIIT via Heather Robertson. I really enjoyed this workout! It got my heart pumping without a bunch of crazy jumping around. I’m sure my downstairs neighbors appreciated that, too.
Saturday: REST, day at the beach!
Sunday: 25-Minute Tone It Up Total-Body Boot Camp via POPSUGAR Fitness. This is one of my favorites that I’ve shared before. It’s quick and extremely effective with strength and a burst of cardio in each circuit.
Monday: 5 mile run around the park, it was very hot out.
Tuesday: REST
Wednesday: Total Body Workout with Jake Dupree via POPSUGAR Fitness. This workout is a sample from him 21-day Full-Body Transformation program and it’s a good one that gets your heart pumping with light weights.
Thursday: LIL Total Body Strength Tabata Workout – this one is a favorite to turn to for strength. I end up reaching for smaller weights since the muscle fatigue is real in a Tabata format.

» 10 Tips to Staying Cool on Summer Runs
I’m currently living in New York where temperatures rise into the high 90s (it’s scorching this week), but I’m also a Florida native who trained for a half marathon during the summer and early fall in Orlando. I’m no stranger to running in the heat, and the biggest thing I’ve learned is that it takes a little strategy to be able to do it comfortably. I hope you enjoy reading my tips and pick up something new to carry with you!
» Zesty Wasabi Almond and Popcorn Mix
Ditch the chips and dive into this better for you, spicy snack for movies, (small and socially distanced) gatherings, and more.
Okay friends, I should get back to the normal Friday things around here. I’m hoping to tackle some work for upcoming campaigns, finish organizing the random piles in our room (is anyone else constantly purging and sorting things during quarantine?), and maybe even cook something exciting for dinner if the rain holds out long enough to allow a trip to the grocery store. Friday night plans will also almost always include my favorite charcoal face mask and a glass of wine to wind down, too.
Have a great weekend, be safe out there, and talk soon!
