It’s Monday! After a long weekend workend filled with a garage sale, barre classes, writing, and cleaning, I might have needed an incentive to get up at the wee hour of 4:30 a.m. with my alarm this morning.
Okay, it was coffee. (Guilty). That is my one (large) cup of the day, and I am determined to stay strong when I head over to Panera to knock out some posts and articles later.
Good news! I have a Monday morning incentive for you too. How about a giveaway?
We’ll get on to the details in just a minute…
Garage Sale Saturday
Speaking of giving stuff away, that is exactly what Scott and I tried to do with a few of our friends on Saturday. Between his Orlando Magic jerseys, my scrubs, clothes, sports memorabilia, video games, DVDs, children’s games, and electronics, the four of us had a little bit of everything to try and sell.
The best item up for grabs is still a toss up for me…
It has to be between Scott’s giant remote control Hummer (complete with white leather interior, new lights and side mirrors no less)… He’s five.
… or his complete Homies collection, which started right when they debuted in 1997.
For those of you who were born in the late ’90s, Homies are 2-inch figurines created off of a comic strip, that were usually sold in vending machines.
Umm… did anyone else collect these little guys to this extent? I totally remember seeing them at our local roller skating rink in high school. Back then, my friend Ashley and I thought they were hysterical.
Apparently, so did Scott. This weekend he admitted to searching “high and low” for some of them to complete his collection. Twenty dollars seems like a steal now, doesn’t it? Again, he’s five.
And then there was the NBA memorabilia table. If you happen to like figurines or bobble heads of any NBA mascot or player, you have come to the right place my friends.
I guess that is what ten years in the league does for you… 😉
Our top seller was a Nintendo GameCube for $60. Ohhhh yeah. We still have high hopes for the rest of our games and electronics when we do it all again next Saturday.
I have to say that I am pretty impressed with Scott’s organization, labeling and negotiating skills this weekend. After staying up all night setting everything up and a full morning of garage sale bartering, this guy was pooped.
I left him alone to enjoy the peaceful air in the backyard for a few minutes before waking him up to go grab lunch. Since Katie lives in the heart of College Park, we had a plethora of restaurants to choose from within walking distance.
We chose Ollie’s, formerly known as Jacks. It is a casual restaurant filled with televisions, a bar and a jar of sliced pickles from the Farmer’s Market on every table. By the time I thought to take a picture of the jar, it was half empty – thanks to Scott and…well, myself. We love pickles. Interestingly enough, we are those crazy people who walk out of Cosco with the industrial sized gallon pickle jars. Don’t judge.
Although the pickles were a great start, I have to give my veggie wrap with a balsamic vinaigrette dressing a little credit too… it was delicious.
Delicious, yes, but the real highlight here is clearly what is pictured below: a Make Your Own S’mores Dessert Tray.
Katie had been raving about this dessert since the walk over, and now I can see why. I made sure to save room for it, and am proud of myself for only indulging in one.
They were a hit! Roasting my own marshmallows brought me back to my days of being a Girl Scout, and it was so much fun!
We will be returning, Ollie’s, don’t you worry.
Redneck Drinkin’ Glasses Giveaway
The first time I saw this type of wine glass was at an Orlando favorite of ours, Yellow Dog Eats. Although I have refrained from purchasing these glasses on our visits, I can now say I am the happy owner of this bad boy, thanks to hwglamour reader, Holly.
Thank you Holly, I love it!
She runs a company that is home to the redneck drinkin’ glasses called YeeHaw Social. Besides specialty wine glasses, you can find bird feeders and soap dispensers, all customizable.
After browsing the catalog, I decided I might need The Gameday Glasses in red and white (GO HOGS!) and the Red Solo Cup Drinkin’ Glass. I mean… if that doesn’t say fancy party glass, I’m not sure what does!
If nothing else, you can enter to win a set of The Classic 16 oz. Glasses.
Enter in 2 Easy Steps
1. “Like” the YeeHaw Social Facebook Page.
2. Leave a comment at the bottom of this post telling me your favorite style of glass OR finishing this sentence: “You might be a redneck if…” 😉
