For the last few years, my everyday vitamin routine has consisted of one main multivitamin:
I didn’t think too much about what else I needed, since this one supplement provided me with many different vitamin needs.
*NOTE: I try to get most nutrients from regular food, but like the assurance a multivitamin gives to fill in any vitamins or minerals I happen to miss.
About a year ago, I added a few more supplements and included the One a Day into my Hair, Skin & Nails Vitamin Routine.
Whatever I was doing seemed to be working, and I really noticed a difference in the strength of my hair and clearness of my skin.
A few months ago, I was approached by a friend about the true importance of taking vitamins & minerals every day, and she challenged me to take her 10 day vitamin & mineral challenge.
*NOTE: Although I was provided with the following products, I am not compensated in any way for writing about them. I am not a professional nutritionist, but instead a health enthusiast. Everything I write about comes from my own personal discoveries and experiences, and I only share what I believe will improve overall health and well being.
The vitamins/mineral combo is Nutrilite Double X Dietary Supplements.
The gold tablet is a multivitamin, the silver is a multimineral and the bronze is a phytonutrient.
The challenge asked that I take the combination of 3 vitamins/minerals once a day for 10 days. On the 11th day, I was told to stop taking them and see if I notice any kind of difference.
I’ve heard of Nutrilite before, but had never tried any of their products. I knew the brand is based around organics, but that’s about it.
DoubleX is their main multivitamin line, and comes in a green case like this.
The Facts: pulled from the Nutrilite website
Nutrilite products are all plant based and organically grown. A serving of this vitamin/mineral combo is loaded with antioxidants and over time will improve your blood nutrient levels.
1 daily serving of these 3 supplements gives you:
Vitamin C – equivalent to 7 cups of cantaloupe
Vitamin B6 – equivalent to 22 bananas
Vitamin E – 33 tbsp of peanut butter
Thiamine – 3.3 lbs of pork loin
Magnesium – 4.2 cups of peas
Folate – 6 cups of baked beans
Vitamin B12 – 4.2 lbs of ground beef
Niacin – 1.5 chicken breasts
Riboflavin – 7.75 quarts of milk
All right…you got me. 🙂
Let’s do the challenge!
For 10 consecutive days I took the 3 vitamins and felt great.
I have to admit that I’m a bit of a slacker when it comes to taking anything consistently, but for this purpose I made sure to follow through.
A few days into the challenge I noticed it was easier for me to get up in the mornings. Normally, it takes me a few pushes of the snooze button before I’m ready to get up…
but I finally got it down to one push of the button.
I don’t know if this had anything to do with taking/lack of taking supplements or not, but around the 11th day was my unfortunate run in the rain, followed by getting sick.
From then on out, I continued the normal 3 supplements a day and have felt on my game. Truth is, providing your body with the extra essential vitamins and minerals is not only good for your health, but helps your heart, brain, eyes, skin, bones and immune system. This particular brand of supplements is made from phytonutrients – or natural ingredients from plants.
As long as I’m supplied, I’ll take the combo to start my day over my One a Day – any day.
