Fall is a great time of the year to do all the things that I love to do for “me”.
The weather is perfect, the sun is (usually) shining, and I find myself wanting to get outdoors and onto activities as much as I can.
Although Fall Bucket Lists are great, I like to attempt to keep the tradition of trying new things and making the most of my days going year-round.
I recently got an invite to check out a lucy store and treat myself to one of their outfits that would be perfect for a workout or day of running around. During the middle of a recent weekend consumed by studying and running, I couldn’t wait to spend an afternoon away doing just that.
I had heard of lucy activewear before, but this was my first time finding a store and going home with something new for my fitness fashion wardrobe.
The closest retail store to me is in Birmingham, which is one of my favorite areas to be in the daytime. Being there just screams “relax” to me.
I would love to reside in that zip code one day!
I was pleasantly welcomed by the staff as soon as I walked through the front door, and when they asked if I was looking for anything specific, I told them my request to find something stylish.
Since I have plenty of tight pants and cropped leggings, I had a great time browsing the store in search of something new.
Even after just a few minutes of looking around, I had my hands full with items to try on and ended up leaving with the following outfit:
Run Your Heart Out Long Sleeve // Get Going Pant // Winter Hideaway Vest
You might be wondering why I am sitting in the grass playing with leaves.
This is partly because Scott thought it would be funny, but mostly because I wanted to. It’s something silly that enhances my mood, so if it’s not hurting anyone… why not?
To go along with their mission for this campaign (keep reading for a great giveaway opportunity!), lucy asked me to write about me time.
You might remember me talking about The Importance of “Me” Time and How To Get It over the summer.
As someone who works from home and spends a lot of time solo these days, I realize I might not be the best source for tips, but I assure you that my days and weeks haven’t always allotted for this much flexibility.
When it all comes down to it, finding time to celebrate you every once in a while isn’t just for you. Doing so helps avoid burn outs and refreshes you to be closer to the best you possible.
The best wife, girlfriend, mother, daughter, sister, employee, and friend.
I know this can be a hard concept to grasp, but just hear me out.
You don’t have to spend a day at the spa to enjoy a little break.
Take the scenic route on your drive home from work, roll your windows down (before the winter shows up!) and rock out, sister! Have a glass of wine or a cup of coffee with your girlfriends every couple weeks, and get active.
Leave your cell phone alone at night when you are in bed and grab a book instead. Start a tradition you look forward to every week like taking Saturday morning walks.
Unwinding (even if it’s for ten minutes) is so important. Not only for you, but for everyone who loves you.
If you’re running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off day after day, month after month, and year after year, you just might blink and miss the opportunities to enjoy life that are presented right in front of you.
So where can we get more time?
Is it hiding somewhere with all of those imaginary money growing trees?
Maybe, but until we find them, lucy wants to help get you started.
This is For You Giveaway
Ladies, this is for you. The ones who have it all… on your to-do list.
lucy wants to make sure you fit in something you love to do without having to give something else (like time to clean the house or get in a workout) up. What woman couldn’t use a little help with that?
Each week you can enter to win your choice of a year of housecleaning, babysitting, or meal delivery. One grand prize winner will receive all three!
That equals more “you time” to do the things you really love. Let lucy take away the small stuff that stands between you and a good sweat!
You can enter for a chance to win it all by clicking over to and entering the “You Time” Giveaway before December 16th.

Questions of the Day
• What is one way you try to fit in “you time”?
• Which of those three prizes would you want to win the most?

Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries
That long sleeve top looks SO comfy! I love the thumb holes too. And the vest is super cute! You could totally dress that thing up or down.
“Me time” is definitely important for my sanity, especially since becoming a mom. I wake up early to get in an hour of time to myself before Hunter wakes up, and teaching my classes is another time I get to focus on what I love to do while taking a break from being a mom for an hour. That “me time” helps me be the best person, mom, and wife I can be. I totally notice a difference in myself when I don’t get it!
Heather
You are so right! I’ve always been nervous to think about how to get “me” time in down the road once we start a family… teaching classes is a great way to do something for you! Love it.
Emma @ Life's A Runner
That top looks almost exactly like the Lululemon ones! For a fraction of the price, probably. 🙂 I’ve actually realized that I don’t like running with other people, because while I LOVE being friends with runners, it’s my only ME time, and when I give it up I literally have none. Fantastic post! 🙂
Heather
They’re great quality and remind me of lulu too. I’m like you sometimes. As much as I love running with buddies, sometimes I just really need a “me time” run. I love jamming out in my headphones and unplugging for a while!
Sara @ Lake Shore Runner
I love Birmingham too! I am from the east side of Detroit but my mom and I would always venture over there when we went to Somerset. Oh and they have a Chipotle which we do not.
I just got to do a similar thing at Lulu and I picked out a vest too – http://www.lakeshorerunner.com/2014/10/23/layeryourluon/
I have been really into vests this fall and still have not taken the plunge and bought one. Yours is super cute!
Heather
Love Somerset! Ahhh yes, luckily Chipotle is one thing my area has. I was so thankful to find it close when we moved!
aladygoeswest
Cute stuff! I’ve never been into a lucy store either, but there is one near me. I believe North Face owns lucy, so that’s kind of cool, because I love North Face stuff. Anyways, I get a lot of me time while walking around the city. It’s a good time to think! 🙂
Heather
Yes! North Face does own lucy, which is great. Love both of those brands!
Linda @ The Fitty
Truth be told, I don’t have any “me” time. It’s all squished through all the things I have to do, like school commitments and fitness. By the end of the day I’m pretty spent and I can’t wait to hit the pillow. I wish I had time to actually SCHEDULE me time and not feel like it’s so rushed and happening in the moment whenever I decide I have some free time.
Heather
Sometimes I do schedule it. Even if it’s simply to watch a movie in my sweats on a Saturday afternoon. Sometimes you need those kinds of things to recharge!
fitgirlprettyworld
That blue top looks so cute and comfy! I’ve heard of Lucy but haven’t bought anything from there yet. 🙂
I’ve always been a huge advocate for “me time.” Honestly I just schedule it into my days like scheduling a brunch date. I think it’s so important and I don’t understand people that don’t do that!
Heather
Thanks, it is! I love it, and actually wore it under my jersey for my last half marathon! Great piece.
Katie
It’s easy to get caught up on everyday life… errands, routines, to do’s, etc. Just like its important to schedule in gym time, it’s just as important to schedule in some me-time every once in a while. Daily, I try to get outside and walk the dog. A necessity, yes… but I use the time to think about my day and sort through my thoughts. Otherwise, I really enjoy shopping (even if it’s just walking around the mall and window shopping), photography, DIY projects or journaling.
Of the three grand prizes, I would definitely choose a year of housecleaning! It’s the one thing I dread doing most during the week, and it seems to suck up a majority of my time on the weekends. By the time I am finished cleaning, I am exhausted and no longer in the mood to do the things that I WANT to do! I actually really enjoy cooking (and would potentially even consider the time that I cook/bake as me-time on top of the activities listed above).
I really need to get out to Birmingham more often! I don’t live very far away, but always forget that it’s an option!
Heather
Totally agree. Having a dog really helps get some extra time to yourself! Roadie loves going on long walks, but I get just as much out of them as he does. I love the time to think and reflect. Ha, housecleaning is a total time sucker! I try to devote several hours to it on Fridays before the weekend starts to get it over with. That way it doesn’t interfere with my weekend plans with Scott! I’d be lying if I said a lot of my Friday nights haven’t been spent cleaning with a side of wine. #noshame 😉
Julia
I struggle with “me” time immensely and just focusing on the positives in life rather than what I’m NOT doing…aka finishing my to-do list! I have been trying to focus on doing one thing a day that makes me happy. Also, taking the time to blog about it each day helps me to realize that there are lots of good parts to the day, and it helps me to make a conscious effort to slow down, relax, and enjoy life!
Heather
Exactly. Blogging is a great way to remember the highlights of everything you DID do! 🙂
cleaneatingveggiegirl
I love that vest and I also LOVE the picture of you playing in the leaves! Seriously, that is the epitome of Fall! Sometimes we just have to be silly and let loose, right?
Heather
Thank you! I’m seriously loving the vest too. I’ve already worn it several times!
Tricia Johnson
I try to fit in me time by snuggling up with my dog and relaxing with a good book or favorite tv show and a cup of tea. That’s the thing that most relaxes me and gets me back to center.
Heather
Aww that’s the best! <3
Katie @ Daily Cup of Kate
I have been looking for a vest like that!! SO cute!!
Heather
Down vests in MI are the best. Perfect in transitioning from fall to winter!
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment
Love your vest! I agree – I try to find me time with reading a book, watching one of my favorite shows or enjoying a glass of wine or tea.
Heather
Thanks! I’ve been wearing it a LOT.
Kim @ Fittin Pretty
Aw such cute pictures!! Fall is so amazing as a photo backdrop. The clothes look super comfy too, excellent picks! (That vest!!)
I’d go for the housecleaning…how AMAZING would that be??
Reading and shopping are my primary me time activities. Even grocery shopping counts, sadly. 🙂
Heather
Ha, I know what you mean! Sadly, I too get excited to grocery shop. 😉
chareatsgreens
I LOVE the outfit you decided on! I had some me time today by getting in my first long, easy run for half marathon training. Seriously, I know people have a love-hate relationship with treadmills, but it’s exactly what I needed today! It might be my BFF now! haha
Heather
I totally feel you. My thoughts on treadmills depends on the day. Sometime I love them and sometimes I’m over them. Glad you got some “you” time!
Melinda
I love the outfit, Maybe I can borrow it when I visit next month?
My “me” time is during my runs especially since I am training
by myself.
Heather
Sure! You would love it! Excited to see you!
Hillary | Nutrition Nut on the Run
such cute finds!
Heather
Thanks! Loved yours as well! 🙂
Diane Oui In France
Love Lucy’s jackets. I have two and they’re my favorite. Good quality, wish they were in France!
