Hello, hello and a Happy Hump Day to ya! I hope the week is going well for you so far, and also that you are enjoying a warmer one than we are.
Currently, we are only venturing outside when it is absolutely necessary. While getting in the car after an appearance last night, Scott and I saw the temperature and laughed when we realized we were actually excited to see 5ºF. Yup. That happened. These double digit negative temperatures are really intense for this Florida native!
But enough about the weather. Today I am pushin’ on through and continuing our Paris highlights. I am so glad you have been enjoying the recaps so far!
Previous ones include:
• Paris: Notre Dame + Lovers Bridge
• Paris: Chaud Chocolat + Moulin Rouge
Phew! Only two more to go! Ready?
Exploring Paris: Day 3
Day three started out (not so bright, but) early. It was our last full day off before having to work, so we packed it tight with good eats and sight seeing.
First on the check-off list was to find a good, authentic French crêperie. While we could have easily bought crêpes off of street vendors, we wanted to seek out an actual sit-down spot, popular by both tourists and locals. Whenever we have something like this in mind, we turn to Trip Advisor and read customer reviews. They haven’t steered us wrong thus far!
Staying on track with our plan, we navigated our way through a somewhat confusing path of metro stops and transfers to the Montparnasse area.
It was quite the hall, but well worth it in the end when we saw just how popular La Crêperie de Josselin is.
We arrived with a crowd and barely made our way through the front door to wait for a table. See all of those people sitting together? They are all different parties, put together.
After about fifteen minutes of waiting, we were led to the back corner and the waiter literally had to move our table to the side to let me squeeze in behind it. Once I sat down, he replaced the table and Scott sat on the other side. Once again, the people to the left and right of us were complete strangers. Isn’t that crazy?
I started my meal with a café au lait (coffee with milk) and Scott stuck with the tradition of cider. Even in the morning, I spotted at least one of those skinny pitchers at every table!
Scott got a deal on his meal including a crêpe, cider, and dessert crêpe, so we each ordered one as a meal and planned on splitting the second one.
This crêperie’s specialty is using two buckwheat, gluten-free crêpes, one on top and one on the bottom which made them insanely large. We would have been perfectly content splitting one, I’m sure.
Inside of mine was eggs, ham, cheese, and tomato. It was so, so good! I purposely left a corner of it to save room for our next one, which was thankfully a bit smaller.
(inside was nutella and outside was homemade whipped cream.)
NOM.
After that deliciousness it’s safe to say our trip was a filling one! Next on our check-list was taking the metro and train over to the area of Versailles.
(Nice “coat”, Scotty.)
After about a half hour of transit time, we arrived within walking distance of the Palace of Versailles. Please tell me you have heard of this amazing chateau before.
And no, I’m not talking about that silly attempt of a replica home in Orlando, Florida. This, friends, is the real deal.
Walking up to the property, I knew to expect amazing and out of this world, elaborate details but I don’t think I could have prepared myself for the beauty of what we saw both inside and out.
We paid for a tour inside and had a little over an hour to make our way through everything.
Upon entry, you had the choice to explore with or without an audio guide. They were small hand held devices you held up to your ear like a cell phone and I found it to be very helpful when traveling room to room.
(Whoa. If looks could kill, I might be in trouble!)
(Also… check out that property. Even at model measurements, it’s unreal.)
Each room had a purpose and our lovely audio guide went through the history and transitions of what everything was used for throughout the years. It was crazy to hear how much the family added on every so often including a cathedral, Marie-Antoinette’s “simple” estate, and park gardens.
The pure detail and design elements in every corner, nook and cranny was absolutely incredible.
Check out just one room of ceiling murals complete with real gold and crystal chandeliers.
It was hard to believe it was all real! One of the rooms that stood out were the King’s Quarters, which we later found out got moved. Apparently, the beauty of this one just didn’t make the cut.
My favorite part of the tour was seeing the Hall of Mirrors. It looked like something straight out of a postcard, only we were right there soaking it in.
Everything about this palace was stunning and more beautiful than any picture I could share with you.
First runner up for my favorite room was the Queen’s Quarters. Can you imagine falling asleep and waking up to the sight of this every day?
No big deal.
It was neat to hear the history of the palace occupants and see their family portraits hanging throughout the chateau. The audio guide was very informative and shared stories we found very interesting!
As we made our way to the exit, we knew we had to boogie to get back to our hotel in time to meet our contacts who brought us over here in the first place. Quickly, we walked around the outside gardens and I was able to snap a few photos.
Scott joked that getting wrapped up in the beauty inside always leaves him rushing the end of the tour outside. If we ever get to go back, we’ll have to plan some extra time to explore more of the gardens and outside property. Until then, we’ll just take photos pretending we live there.
We walked over to the train station right around sunset and took another mental note to come back and see the entire city of Versailles another time.
We had a train and a couple of metros to take home before switching hotels and moving to the Bercy area, so we didn’t have any time to spare this time.
Next on the recap list is a visit to the Eiffel Tower, highlights of working the French All-Star Game, and dining out at Bercy Village. Stay tuned for more stories coming up!

So gorgeous! Versailles is on the top of my list of Must-See’s in Paris (behind the Eiffel Tower). So fun to see pictures from my French textbooks show up in somewhere besides on a page! 🙂
I thought the same exact thing. I thought people might be bored of seeing travel recaps, but honestly they have been my favorite posts to write. I would totally tour Versailles again too… it was that incredible.
Versailles!! So beautiful! I would like to wake up in the Queen’s Quarters every day, too! Wow.
Ha, right? No big deal.
Versailles is gorgeous! I’ve also always wanted to try authentic Crepes! Im really looking forward to the Eiffel Tower post!
Aw thanks so much, Lyric! Glad you are enjoying the recaps 🙂
