Over the past several years, I have noticed a huge difference in my skin.
Between the normal process of aging (cough… and getting close to thirty… cough), growing up in the Florida sun, stress of moving and transitioning into a new life up north, and over a decade of constant smiling as part of my job, I’ve kind of put it through the wringer.
I noticed the biggest change almost three years ago, right after we got married at the age of twenty-six. Scott just lost his job and we were in this newlywed and weird in-between period in our lives that put constant worry lines on our faces.
I have always been a big advocate for quality skin care, but have to admit to slacking in that department since then.
It probably wasn’t the best decision, considering the mid-twenties is when you should probably start taking anti-aging and skin care more seriously, but I digress.
We didn’t have the extra income to spend on much, so I grabbed whatever I could over the counter and most likely on sale that would suffice.
Fast forward to just about a year ago, I started using Yes To Carrots, after being approached by the company. I spent months trying out a copious amount of their products, and quickly grew to love their organic, all-natural lines and the majority of everything I reviewed. I was happy with how the products felt on my face, believed in what they stand for, and have been strictly using their brand until about three weeks ago.
A couple of months ago, I was approached by one of my close friends about a skin care company called Rodan + Fields, which seems to be getting more popular by the minute. I knew I had heard about the company before, but wasn’t ready to invest in something on my own at that moment in time.
A few weeks later another friend of mine introduced “the roller” to me. It’s proper name is the AMPD MD micro-exfoliating roller, and I remembered seeing something about it in a magazine. As it turns out, it’s even made a few appearances on television, and when I went on to ask more people about it I found out a few of them have used and loved it!
Just about a month ago, I was contacted by another friend about the line and finally gave in. She offered to send me what she had on hand of the REDEFINE line in exchange for a review, and it took me all of two seconds to get on board.
Read below for the details, and stick around until the end for the chance to get your hands on your own products!
Rodan + Fields Skincare
Here’s a little background information about R+F:
The line was created by Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields who are also the creators of the well known Proactiv® line of skincare. They created Proactiv® specifically for people battling acne, and wanted to expand their dermatology based skincare solutions to everyone with their variety of lines in Rodan + Fields.
They have six different lines of products that focus on different results:
• REVERSE for reducing the appearance of brown spots + discoloration.
• REDEFINE for reducing the appearance of lines, pores, and loss of firmness.
• UNBLEMISH for acne and post-acne marks.
• SOOTH for sensitive, irritated skin and facial redness.
• ENHANCEMENTS (makeup + extras) for optimized results with your regimes.
• ESSENTIALS (body moisturizes and sunless tanners) for everyday needs.
For the purpose of my review, I requested anti-aging products from the REDEFINE line.
She sent me the standard REDEFINE regime including the Daily Cleansing Mask, Pore Minimizing Toner, Triple Defense Treatment with 30 SPF (daytime moisturizer), and the Overnight Restoration Cream (night time moisturizer).
I previously sampled two more products from other lines, and requested sample sizes of them both to include in this review as well.
The Micro-dermabrasion Paste from the ENHANCEMENTS line and the Night Renewing Serum capsules from REDEFINE.
The night serum capsules can be used every night, or just a few times a week (depending on what’s best for your type of skin) along with the rest of the REDEFINE regime. The paste, on the other hand, is only meant to substitute a cleanser 2-3 times per week.
I absolutely love the combination of those two products together. When I first sampled both, I didn’t have any other R+F products to compliment them with and still walked away feeling like I just gave myself a facial.
The sample paste you see above lasted me three times and I was truly upset when I used the last drop. It’s definitely on my list of wants.
Results + Review
So those are the products I have been using for the past twenty days.
Like many of you, I am very skeptical about “the latest and greatest” in skincare that always seems to surface.
There’s always something bigger and better around the corner, and it really took a lot of convincing for me to actually give this line a try.
My initial thought was that is is way too expensive for me to regularly keep up with, which is true of most quality, dermatologic made skincare lines. But, since I was able to try at least thirty days worth at no charge, I gave it a go and can’t believe the difference in my skin twenty days in.
I have never posted pictures of myself with absolutely no makeup on the blog before, so I’m giving you fair warning that they aren’t stunning. Even if I’m just going to grab groceries, I almost always have concelear and mascara on, and you’ll probably never see me intentionally post fully non-makeup photos here again… so enjoy them while they last, ya’ll.
Here are my Day One and Day Twenty pics to help show you my results.
As you probably noticed, I look extremely tired on the left, which is pretty standard. But, that doesn’t mean I am okay with it. I have been wanting to upgrade my skincare with at least “the roller” for months and am grateful that I finally got the opportunity to start the process.
After only twenty days in, my skin feels so much smoother, filled in, and more evenly colored. The biggest difference I have noticed is the crows feet area around my eyes, which comes hand-in-hand with smiling. Don’t you hate that?
Just this morning, I told Scott to look at my face and observe how much smoother, cleaner, and more radiant my skin looks in less than thirty days. The crows feet are slowly on their way out of here and I couldn’t be more excited about it.
I realize the day where my trial supply runs out will come sooner than later, and for the first time in a long time I am actually thinking about dropping hundreds of dollars on skincare again.
It’s that life changing, and I promise I’m trying not to be dramatic about it.
Scott is a stickler for expensive products and to be honest, we have both been spoiled with receiving a lot of what I use every day at no cost. These days, it takes something epic to make me pay for anything health + beauty related, and I have always felt blessed and grateful for the opportunities and companies I have had the pleasure of working with.
Ladies and gentlemen, Rodan + Fields skincare is pretty epic.
My next step is to invest in the micro-dermabrasion roller and get Scott into trying that with me, along with the skin care that is meant to go along with it. I’ll be the first to admit this isn’t cheap, which is why it might take a while for us to get there.
Those are my thoughts. Quality skin care is always expensive, and it usually takes a while of testing different things out before you find what is worth your personal investment.
I have high hopes of continuing on with this line and incorporating mix-and-match products from other lines as well. (Did you see the sunless tanner for $24?)
I’ll be sure to keep you all updated on how me and my skin are doing in the future, but for now I am going to leave you with the chance to try out a Rodan + Fields product for yourself!
Rodan + Fields Skincare Giveaway
Insterested in starting your own Rodan + Fields regimen?
One lucky Housewife Glamour reader will receive one product of choice from the REDEFINE line or the Micro-dermabrasian Paste completely free of charge. Because this is coming from a personal friend and not directly from corporate, this giveaway excludes the night serum capsules.
(Up to $80 value for one item!)
If you’re looking for my help in picking one, you might be out of luck because I love each and every one of these products!
The facial cleansing mask is wonderful. You use it twice a day and let it sit for two minutes each time before you wash it off, which I think makes it stand out from other cleansers. I also love the pore reducing toner. Both creams are thick and feel like they are instantly smoothing to my skin. I appreciate that the day time version has an SPF of 30 and the night time is formulated to combat extra wrinkles.
All of them are great!

The Triple Defense looks good! I never use moisturizer, but I know I really should and starting at my age will only be better in the long run!
Angie Jerde
The redefine or unblemish would be great!
alerfaldanda
I have tried EVERYTHING to make my skin cooperate…right now I use a mishmash of different products (cleanser, toner, moisturizer, spot treatment). If I won, I’d choose the cleansing mask. It looks really helpful!
Julie
I love Burt’s bees products.
Nichole Josey
I really need to start taking my skin routine more seriously… It’s just that I’m in that same spot that you were where the over-the-counter/sale items are much more budget friendly and feasible for my time in life.. I could definitely benefit from using something bigger and better. If I were to win this I would probably either choose the daily cleaning mask! I also like the sound of the night restoration cream.

I wash my face in the morning with my Clarisonic and some sort of mild cleanser (usually Olay or Neutrogena). I follow that up with a moisturizer with SPF by CeraVe. In the evenings I’ll wash my face again after removing makeup and apply an anti-aging cream by Olay to my forehead region. I’d LOVE to try the Rodan + Fields line!! I actually looked into it at one point but was deterred by the price. Beauty is expensive!!
Claire
I would love to try the Redefine. I am lucky enough to have never had acne as a teen, but between lots of sweaty workouts and too much time in the sun, my skin could use a little bit of proactive help! 🙂
Michelle Audisio
I would love To try them! I have been dying for a new product line to try!
Jennifer Huff
First of all, your no makeup photos are gorgeous!
Mommy hood has made my face a hot mess! & my bank account dry. So target brand cleanser is where it’s at.

I know the feeling of seeing your skin change as we enter our 30s. I highly recommend a product with glycolic acid as well as a quality vitamin C serum. I also use a gel with hydraulic acid before using my normal moisturizer to keep the wrinkles away. A really rich eye cream is also invaluable.
Rachel @ Blonde with a Chanse

Christa @ Sit-ups & Sequins
I’ve been using Rx Systems (developed by a dermatologist here in STL) for a few years now and love it. It’s made me a little obsessed with my skincare. I probably use 8 different items, cleanser, toner, moisturizers, eye creams, etc, etc every day. My mom introduced me to Rodan + Fields and convinced me to try the Night Renewing Serum capsules. Although the price tag was higher than I wanted, I’m about 3/4 of the way through the capsules and I have noticed a BIG difference in those pesky little wrinkles that I couldn’t seem to avoid now that the bug 3-0 is fast approaching! 🙂 I’m officially addicted and will continue to use the Serum, and will probably venture out and try more of the R+F line!
Xio
I would love to try the overnight restoration creme. I am on the market for quality nighttime restorative skincare!
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries
