Hi friends! I hope you are all coming off of a great weekend.
Ours was a mix of a lot going on and a lot of down time. I spent a couple of hours cleaning the house after work on Friday, and then Scott and I joined a group of friends to hang at our friend Adam’s house for the night. We played a few (competitive) rounds of , then headed back home after midnight.
Two of our friends who live 40 or more minutes from the area ended up spending the weekend with us! Instead of driving that far in the intense fog Friday night and on the icy roads Saturday night, we enjoyed lounging inside and catching up with them throughout the weekend.
I spent my Saturday morning teaching glasses at the gym, so it was nice to just chill at home afterwards. It had been a while since we all just vegged out and watched movies, and the fur kids loved the extra snuggle time!
Catching all three of them around us happens a lot, actually. We just never have anyone to capture it! They’re the cutest.
By the early afternoon, we got the idea to introduce our friends to our new favorite (healthy) fast-casual restaurant, 2941 Street Food. I ordered a bowl that comes with (delicious, addicting) bread and enough for leftovers.
If you live somewhat close to the Rochester Hills area and ever get the chance to visit, I highly recommend the milled wheat rice, chicken, pickles, mushrooms, and nomad salad with feta cheese. I’ve gotten this bowl several times already and it never disappoints!
After lunch, we ran errands and stopped by the grocery store to stock up on the way home. I got the idea to make chocolate chip cookies and wanted to make them vegan so our friend, Ryan, could enjoy them too.
I combined different recipes and tweaked a few ingredients, and to my surprise they turned out really, really good! I’m looking forward to sharing the recipe with you later this week.
It took me a while to make enough cookies for the friends coming over to our house and more for girlfriends I had plans to meet up with later that night. Scott and a group of his guy friends went to the Pistons Basketball game, so it was a great night to get out and meet some of the sweet girls from my former bible study.
We had an 8 p.m. reservation at Social in Birmingham, which is one of my favorite places to dine. I was disappointed, however, that it took forty five minutes for them to seat six of us with a reservation. To help with the delay, they offered a round of free appetizers that included crispy brussels sprouts, spinach dip, and fries. Yum!
I had quite my fair share of all three and ordered the blackened shrimp cobb salad for my entrée. It was huge!
I loved the combination of avocado, bacon, egg, tomato, cucumber, white beans, and bleu cheese with shrimp. It was extremely filling and satisfying, so I took half of it home with me to enjoy again the next day.
It was after 10 p.m. by the time we received our bills, and we had plans to retreat back to Robin’s house for dessert. I brought my cookies, we opened a bottle of wine, and we played a few rounds of . Yes, again. What’s funny is that it’s a game I usually suggest to play in a group, but neither time was with our set of cards or per my suggestion. I guess my friends and I are all on the same page!
It was so fun to see them. I hope we actually take the initiative to get together again soon!
I was home and in my pajamas by midnight, and Scott and a group of our friends walked in the door of our home shortly after. It was a weekend of entertaining for sure! I stayed up to chat for a bit, but turned in a little after 1 a.m. I can’t hang like I used to… I’ll tell you that!
Scott and I were looking forward to sleeping in on Sunday and woke up around 9:30 a.m. It was glorious. We woke up to a lot of snow, so we made a big pot of coffee for our friends that occupied the guest room and cuddled up on the couch while watching the snowfall.
Eventually, we caught a break in the what I like to call “sideways” snow, and we took Roadie out for a quick walk. I feel so bad that he hasn’t gotten many miles in this winter. I’m sure he’s missing the summer warmth and sunshine like I am!
I’ve also had a lot of trouble finding a good winter coat for him. Roadie has broad shoulders and a big chest, but short legs. (He’s a Rhodesian Ridgeback mixed with… Pitbull?) I’m not exaggerating when I say I’ve bought a dozen sweaters and coats for him, all of which end up being too big or too small. I’ve bought size L to XXL, and still can’t find something that doesn’t make him walk funny. The struggle is real!
Until I find one that fits and actually stays on throughout his walks, I’ve been keeping them short. It’s just too cold and breezy without an extra layer for him.
While I had plans to get a lot of things done Sunday morning and afternoon, I got a really bad headache instead. I ate breakfast, took tylenol, then went back to bed to try and kick it. By the time I woke up again it was mid-afternoon and everyone was ready for lunch!
We have been raving about MOD Pizza, so we took our friends there for a round of create-your-own pizzas. It was delicious and everything I dreamed of.
Scott and I had a couple of hours of time alone in the afternoon, so I caught up on blog work and finished cleaning the house. You know, weekend stuff. Our friend Adam came over later that night, and we watched Episodes IV and V of Star Wars. (We’ve only got one more to go before I’m all caught up and can go see the new movie!)
It seems like we didn’t do “much” this weekend, but it went by in a flash! We ate enough meals out to hit our quota for the entire week, too. We have a busy week ahead, and it looks like we’ll be eating at home to make up for it.
And that’s our weekend in a recap. Thanks for reading!

Questions of the Day
• Do you generally dine out more on the weekends?
• Have you seen all of the Star Wars movies? Which one is your favorite?
Believe it or not, this is my first time seeing all of the Episodes. So far, I like Episode V the best. I’m looking forward to seeing VI and then finishing out the series (for now) in theaters!

I love cards against humanity 🙂 Always a fun time! And I love supporting the game – locally made in Chicago by a group of friends around our age. I’ve met a couple of them and they’re super nice!

That’s interesting to know! I would imagine whoever made up some of the more “inappropriate” cards must have quite the imagination, lol

Food, friends, and fun times – looks like the perfect low key weekend! I think LL Bean *may* make some dog coats that work really well, or Cabela’s…

I definitely eat out more on the weekends! I feel like I have more time to enjoy it and not have to think about my to do lists so if I end up having to wait for a table minus the being hungry I can make the best of it and enjoy the added social time 🙂

Same goes for me! When I’m with a group of friends, especially on the weekends, waiting time seems to fly by…. unless you’re really, really hungry 😉
Courtney
SO much yummy food this weekend! I had a cobb salad this weekend too and it was amazing. And Cards Against Humanity is one of THE best games to play with close friends. Love it!
Have a great week, my friend! 🙂

Right? It always proves to be a great time. Yay for cobbs! I could probably eat one every day 🙂

We usually eat out around twice each week. Although, typically only one meal is dinner. This past Friday was a Whole Foods run: sushi for me and a pizza slice for my husband. Saturday night we tried a new Irish pub downtown for dinner. Usually, it will end up being dinner one night and either brunch/lunch another day.
Heather
I love eating at Whole Foods! Although, my plates always end up costing more than a meal at a restaurant, lol. #allthethings

Aw, love Roadie all snuggled up by your legs. Adorable. My weekend sounds very similar to yours–getting together with friends and playing CAH (Saturday night), teaching fitness classes all morning (three Pure Barre classes on Sunday) , and working on blog stuff. I definitely kept myself busy, but got a lot done. I definitely feel accomplished! Have a great Monday, Heather!

Oh the snow! Even your dog needs a coat hahah! Yes, I happen to love Cards Against Humanity as well. Haven’t played in a while though. We own it for parties, of course. And you definitely did a lot over the weekend! A good mix of work and play. 🙂

We had the same problem finding jackets to fit our boxers. Last year we stumbled upon Dover Saddlery and love them! The large fits our 65lb large chested dogs great. The regular fleece ones also go on clearance a few times a year for $9.99.

I recently just heard of that game, cards against humanity, because my sister-in-law has it. But I have no idea what it’s about. I should look into it. Looks like you had such a nice weekend, with lots of yummy food!
Heather
You definitely need a sense of humor to play, but it’s hilarious! It’s almost impossible not to laugh the whole time. 😉

Aww love the picture of you, Scott and the fur babies. Melts my heart xoxo

Aw, thanks Kristina! I guess I’ll keep them around… <3
