Good Morning! Today I’m coming to you in a bit of a rush…
Scott and I are heading to the airport at 6:30 a.m. to catch a 9 o’clock flight out of Detroit. He has a work conference in Houston, and since it is our anniversary tomorrow and he was gone for it at the same conference last year, I decided to tag along this time!
I plan to get some work and studying done in the hotel while he’s at the conference during the days and hang with him and his friends (and lucky for me, some wives!) at night. On Thursday we are joining a group of friends at Galveston, so I’m really looking forward to this entire week!
I don’t have much time to chat, so I’m going to share a weekend in photos type of post today. I’ll include the main details, but for the most part, here are strictly scenes from the weekend!
Friday
Friday started early with breakfast at Toast in Birmingham with my dad and Scott. I loved having him in town, even if it was for under 24 hours!
I love this place, by the way, and I finally got where the name originated. This time, I ordered the Parisian Omelet and it came with a side of jalapeño pepper toast and the best crispy cheese grits. I also adore the fact that none of their coffee mugs match each other.
After an appearance with HOOPER just after lunch, I met Scott at his office which is also where the 2014 Warped Tour happened to be going on. We actually arranged tickets to see a couple of bands, thanks to Travis from We the Kings! He’s engaged to one of our good friends we met back in our Orlando Magic days and were thrilled to get to finally see him perform!
There was plenty of entertainment through music and people watching to last hours, but since we were kind of pooped we hung to see WTK and left soon after.
We got home around dinner time and at the last minute decided to meet some friends at a new-to-us restaurant called MEX. It was such a neat place, and I wrote all about it over the weekend!
Thanks for the tickets, Travis!
Saturday
The weekend started off early with a parade in Farmington. Another day, another HOOPER appearance.
I discovered a new Starbucks drink I’m going to be addicted to called the Blackberry Mojito Tea Lemonade on the way home and roasted some almonds when I got there.
Scott and I both had hair appointments in Royal Oak, which was very cloudy. We both loved how our looks turned out, and the fact that my hair is actually starting to grow again!
We kept our night very low-key with a few new recipes (coming soon!) and some down time with the fur babies.
Sunday
We planned to go to our early church service at 8:45 a.m. yesterday, but ended waking up at 8:30. I guess we were both pretty tired!
We streamed the service online instead, and laughed at how comfortable Roadie always seems to get no matter where he goes or what he does.
Later on in the afternoon, I got a call from Scott that his tire valve broke again while he was out just to quickly grab a slurpee. Do you remember when that happened over Memorial Day Weekend? Crazy it happened again.
Scott took Roadie with him in the car without a leash, since he was going to stay in the car and ended up having to take him to attempt to get it repaired with him at a service center.
To make a long story short, I ended up running (yup… still sharing a car these days) to the service center with a leash in hand. Lucky for me, it was less than three miles away, and by the time I got there Scott was well on his way into fixing it himself. Apparently, they closed at 6 and wanted nothing to do with us at 5:35 p.m. Thank goodness for spare tires!
His spare was pretty flat, so I ran in to get fix a flat and that held us over until we could get more air. We found a machine that took credit cards and beeped when the tires became full! (Genius.)
We finally all returned home two hours after I left for the run and I knocked out my latest circuit workout before hitting the showers. I spent the rest of the night straightening up and getting ready for our trip!
(Linking up this MIMM with Katie!)
By the time you’re reading this, we are most likely in the air and on our way to Texas! I’ll be checking in later this afternoon with a healthy summer bean salad recipe. See you then!
Questions of the Morning
• When was the last time you experienced car troubles? Were you stranded for a long period of time?
• What was one highlight from your weekend?
Heather @fitncookies
That’s the worst! I’m glad you were able to run there and help Scott out with Roadie. Totally looks like Roadie was loving having some time with you! I probably would have called it quits when I got home. Good for you for knocking out a circuit 🙂 Have a great trip!
Heather
His smiley face always makes the bad situations a little more enjoyable. And to be honest, I only did the circuit because I knew we were traveling this week! 😉
April V
You win the ‘wife of the year’ award for running 3 miles just to give hubby a leash.. 😉
Heather
Ha, I well thanks! I actually planned on going for a run anyways, so it kind of worked out!
April V
also..are those Fabletics leggings I see in your suitcase? If so, how do you like them?
Heather
Yup!! I’m loving them so far, and I’m hoping to find a barre studio while I’m down there!

I enjoyed having Sunday off of work and training clients for the first time more than a month. It was great. My husband and I went out to a nice dinner on Saturday, I taught some group fitness classes, and we also went to a restaurant called Toast in the East Bay. How about that. Safe travels!
Heather
I bet it was the same restaurant! They seem to be popping up everywhere! Sounds like a great weekend 🙂

Have fun in Texas!!! It sounds like such a fun weekend (well, with the exception of the flat tire!)
Heather
Ha, it was definitely eventful 😉
Rachel @ Blonde with a Chanse
Oh no! I’m so sorry about your car! Your meals always look so amazing! I need you as my personal chef 😉
Heather
Thanks! Ha, I really think it’s the editing most of the time 😉
Chelsea @ A Fit LittleOne
Yum!! Your meals look delicious! And ugh, car trouble is always the worst! I got stranded in the middle of no where with my boyfriend. We were on our way up to his apartment { which is 2 1/2 hours away }. And 30 minutes from his apartment, the car just stopped at a red light. That was an interesting day haha we didn’t end up getting home until around midnight. And great timing! You were going on a run, and he just happened to need a leash 😉
Heather
Oh nooo! That’s one of my biggest fears! Being alone and my car just stopping for no reason. Glad you guys eventually made it!

Car troubles are no fun 🙁 We haven’t had any in a while (knock on wood) but one time ran out of gas with our newborn in the car. That was my hubby’s doing. His, “oh we can make it a little further” drives me crazy but he hasn’t done it since. Luckily we were close enough for him to jog to a gas station and quickly return 🙂 Hope you have a fun trip!
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie
Toast looks amazing and that concert sounds so fun! Have fun in Texas!
Audrey @ In Shape Cupcake
Ugh car troubles! Hateeee it. I had my last car trouble in the front part of the parking lot at wal-mart. I went in for my boss to pick up some stuff for her. Which they didn’t have, so went back to my car and it wouldn’t start. My dad was nearby and came to help me but jumping cables did not help and it was much worse. So didn’t have my car for a while. Sucked.
Toast sounds so good!
Heather
Hey, I know what it’s like to be without a car! Ha. Glad someone was close to help!
Kendra
I LOVE Travis and Jenny!! I watch their vlogs 🙂 – never occurred to me that you had a good chance of knowing Jenny from your dance backgrounds!! Small world 🙂
Heather
Too funny! Yes, Scott actually knew Jenny before I did! They are fun to keep up with! 🙂
Sarah
Sounds like a fun, but BUSY, weekend!!
Car trouble sucks! And the fact that the store was still open and didn’t want to help y’all is awful!
2 Things – LOVE your suitcase and all the compartments! What brand is it? Also, don’t you love your Jambox?! My mom recently gave us one, and I’m obsessed!
Hope you’re enjoying your vacay!!
Heather
Yeah, Scott also told me someone came in after him, complained, and got serviced. Horrible service. The suitcase is from a Nike event Scott brought home a few years ago, it’s my absolute favorite! LOVE, LOVE my jambox!
