These last few weeks have certainly been a whirlwind! (And it isn’t going to slow down any time soon.)
Since we announced we are moving, Scott already went up to Michigan for over a week, came home to help pack up the house for a week, and is now leaving for France this morning for a week.
While he is working on opening a new arena overseas, I will be sailing the seas over to the Bahamas with a lovely group of ladies to celebrate Missy’s last few weeks as a single lady.
Talk about a lot happening in a little amount of time! As much as both of us have on our to-do lists at home, maybe a little time away will do us both some good.
Living in a house torn upside down and inside out isn’t an easy thing to do for us. Both Scott and I will admit we have a slight case of OCD when it comes to keeping up the house, so we have to keep thinking and telling ourselves, “just a few more weeks… just a few more weeks…”
Send Off Celebration for Scott
Speaking of celebrating with friends, that is exactly what we have been doing ever since we broke the news!
As much as people tell us they don’t see how Detroit will be better than Orlando (or our friends here), they have supported us in our decisions through and through.
Just a few days after we told them, a close group of friends we know from church put together a last minute farewell party for Scott.
They are an interesting bunch, and you may recognize the majority of them from the Chili Cook Off or Make Your Own Sushi Party.
The core group that continuously brings us together are the guys that make up part of our church’s drama troupe, starting about five years ago. They still get together to this day for “Men’s Meat Night”: a meeting for dinner, typically once a month, where the guys gather together and eat meat.
Only recently this year did spouses get to start joining in, and eventually meetings have come to include women and babies.
About two Monday’s ago (wow, I am so behind!) we all gathered in the private room at Yellow Dog Eats to celebrate the new job, and send Scott off to his first working trip up to Detroit.
Towards the end of the night, we noticed a sweet message written at the top of the entry door.
As much as it made us a little saddened, we loved it, but apparently that wasn’t the only message they wanted to share…
Their true feelings came out as we were presented with a farewell cake saying “Detroit Sucks.”
We all laughed, of course, but the best part of the story is what the message originally said. According to Mallori, when she went to request something to write on the cake, the cutest little elderly man wrote “Detriot <- misspelled Socks.”
Did he think it was the name of a professional sports team? Bless him.
The night went on with lots of laughs, talks of memories, and well… shenanigans.
A few of our friends from the Orlando Magic came to support, and Scott seemed to enjoy every minute with them.
Goofballs.
Goofy or not, we are lucky to have such caring friends in our lives. It was so nice of everyone to come out on such short notice and show their love and support for us.
Since the Send Off Celebration, Scott surprised them by showing up to a Salsa Cook-off (I have a great guacamole recipe coming soon, by the way!) and we also met them at another local favorite restaurant last night.
Men’s Meat Night (and ladies) showed up at the new 4Rivers Smokehouse in Winter Park. The food was excellent, which was expected. What wasn’t expected was a visit from the owner – John Rivers – followed by free samples of a variety of homemade ice cream, cupcakes and cakes straight from their Sweet Shop, just for us.
I just love when I get to meet the people behind amazing companies. Not only is their food out of this world delicious, but their company supports and donates to numerous local church and school charities. We have heard nothing but great things about John and his family, and I could tell just how true it all is when we met him last night.
Keep rockin’ on, Mr. Rivers. We sure are going to miss you!
Like I mentioned before, I am getting ready to head out and board a cruise to the Bahamas later this afternoon! After all of that delicious food and a ridiculous amount of dessert tastings, I am feeling good to go after sneaking in a run and core workout this morning.
I packed my running shoes, and hope to check out the running deck while I’m sailing away over the weekend. Here’s to setting a goal right?
Have a wonderful weekend and see ya Monday! 🙂
