Well, hello friends. It’s Tuesday evening. And I’m hoping to put this post together quickly with the twenty spare minutes I have before getting out the door to attend Fitness Pilates!
We had our final photoshoot for the year, and I left feeling great and hungrier than a bear fresh out of hibernation yesterday.
Since leaving the shoot, the theme of the last twenty-four hours has for sure been spontaneity. Scott and I have always been a “live in the moment” and “go with the flow” kind of couple, which was exactly the topic of my discussion with a teammate over coffee yesterday. Funny how that happened.
We took turns shooting our set of photos and when my friend Kylee and I finished around the same time, we were both more than ready for a well deserved Pumpkin Spice Latte down the road.
… and egg white, turkey bacon and cheese breakfast sandwich.
… and dark chocolate covered graham crackers.
After an entire weekend of eating extremely clean as part of my photoshoot prep, I didn’t feel the least bit guilty about spending $12 on one trip to Starbucks. Everything tasted just as good as I was hoping it would!
I needed to leave around 2:30 p.m. to go pick Scott up from the airport, and when I mentioned this to Kylee she asked if I wanted company for the hour and a half there and back trip. Sure! We arrived to the airport right after 3:15, then spent the rest of the day being down for whatever.
Greektown, Pizza + A Casino
Although it might seem like we had just eaten, both Kylee and I had been craving pizza ever since we arrived to the shoot that morning. I guess that’s what happens when you live off of egg whites, chicken and vegetables for a few days.
Luckily, Scott was fully supportive of the idea and looked up a top-rated pizza joint in Downtown Detroit to try.
We have been to the Greektown area a few times, but had yet to visit PizzaPapalis Chicago Pizza until yesterday. I have had deep dish pizza on the brain for a while now and couldn’t wait to dig in already.
(Missed him!)
And since we were celebrating a successful shoot and a week free of home games, we decided to all split a bottle of Riesling with our large Greek salad.
We ordered the V.I.P Chicago style pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms, black olives, and green peppers, which arrived a pre-warned 35-40 minutes later because of the thickness of this style’s required cooking time.
This was my first time trying Chicago style pizza, and I thought it was good, but just not my favorite. I’ve never been a huge sauce or cheese person, and it seems as though this is what the style is alllll about.
I’m certainly not complaining though. Two medium slices got me miserably full, but I enjoyed every single cheesy, saucy bite as it went down.
Instead of going home, we spent the rest of the night in the MGM Casino, which proved to be a great time!
Scott and I aren’t necessarily big gamblers, but we do give ourselves a limit and have fun trying our hand at roulette every now and then. We ended up breaking even, which is a success in my book!

Our random Monday Funday was filled with anything but healthy eats and structured plans, but that’s exactly what I like about “fun days.” Spontaneity.
Really hate to say it… but you only live once!

Chicago style pizza is so thick! It is almost like a lasagna. I had no idea!! We love exploring with food during our travels and pizza is a great thing to try and then compare. We found New York Style pizza to be as delicious as everyone said. I personal love the thin crust – we folded it over and ate it like a sandwich. This Chicago style pizza is the opposite in that you clearly need a fork to eat it!!
We always travel with the kids and enjoy showing them the world. Food is a great start!
