Today is going to be quite the adventurous one. In just a little bit, I am going to be joining HOOPER for skydiving. Yes… skydiving. Lucky for me, I am just going for support, and to be his voice/assistant.
Most of you found out that I actually have a fear of skydiving yesterday. I have done it before – not really by choice – (maybe a fun story to tell in the near future?), and once was quite enough for me!
Some of you who have been keeping up on Facebook/Instagram recently caught a glimpse of what it’s like to be a handler of the crazy horse mascot for the Pistons. There’s never a dull moment with him, that’s for sure.
It’s an unusual gig I have here, but that just goes along with all of my other jobs: dancer/blogger/product reviewer/wife to entertainment guru.
I guess I have my husband to thank for it! I have mentioned here before that he is HOOPER’s manager, along with Flight Crew Dunk Team Director. He also helps with the production of halftime performances, time outs, videos, you name it entertainment-wise during all of our home games.
As a perk, he occasionally gets surprised with concert tickets for artists who come in town to perform at the arena from the office. Thursday night (our date night) was one of the best surprises yet!
The tickets actually weren’t intended for Scott, but he ended up taking them as a gift when a friend of ours couldn’t make it.
I guess you could say things like this make the crazy NBA schedule, life, and move up here worth it!
Anxious for an excuse to get dressed in real clothes (opposed to my every day gym/dance apparel), I quickly threw together some new purchases from a recent shopping trip.
Blouse: Marshalls (loved the zippers on the sides!)
Skinny Jeans: Forever 21
Sandals: Nine West (about 2 years ago!)
Necklace + Bracelet: Forever 21 (steals!)
Clutch: Waverly Three Way Cross Body, Stella & Dot
Sweet Suite + Ellie Goulding
I had no idea we had private suite tickets until we arrived and saw our section number. Sweeeeet!
As a dancer, I have made suite visits before, but have never been able to hang in one as a patron of a game or concert. For once, I was excited to dig into the food and not just stare at it with envy!
Despite my urge to indulge, I stuck pretty strong to my “Prep Mode” clean eating plan and opted for a plate full of salad and three grilled chicken wings.
Okay, fine. I also had one voda/soda water with a lime and a double chocolate chip cookie. They were both free and were calling to me. Considering I could have done a lot more damage there (I’m talking mac ‘n cheese, chicken fingers, burgers AND chips and dip), I am proud of myself for holding pretty strong.
We snapped this photo literally seconds before the arena turned black.
Time for Ellie Goulding!
Just like the tickets, I had no idea she was the opening act. That’s how last minute this date night was!
Before her set, I knew I liked her music and figured I would recognize a few songs of hers. After, I realized I know a good handful of them, including one of my recent favorites: Anything Could Happen. The music in this jam is so cool to hear live!
Starry Eyed and I Need Your Love are her current hits playing on the radio. Loved her!
Bruno Mars – The Moonshine Jungle Tour
After about forty minutes, it was time to turn on the lights and set up the stage for Bruno Mars.
I believe this is his very first Headlining Tour. You would never know by the crowd though, the arena looked completely sold out!
Bruno was fantastic, just as I thought he would be. He has such a unique and fun style! He is known for rocking fedoras, Motown dancing, and blending a ton of music genres including pop, reggae, R&B, funk, jazz, blues, and rock (did you get all that?).
That is exactly what he did live. His recent performance on The Voice is a great example of what the entire concert was like!
Not only were we having a blast dancing to his music, but both Scott and I were loving the light show and special effects.
Here is a little preview of one of our favorite songs he played.
We have been to our fair share of concerts in our days, and at the end we both agreed that this was one of the best yet. Being obsessed with his latest album might have something to do with it, but I digress.
All in all it was a wonderful show, and an amazing surprise!
Thanks for a great date night, my love!
Questions of the Day
• Who (or what band) was your all-time favorite concert to see live?
• If you could attend any concert (currently touring, or from back in the day) what artist/band would it be?
I would have LOVED to have seen Michael Jackson live. Scott and I went to his IMMORTAL World Tour with Cirque Du Soliel show last year, and that is obviously the closest either one of us will get to that experience.
We almost finagled our way into the recent NKOTBSB concert at our arena, but plans fell through at the last minute. That would have been awesome to see on so many levels!

What a fun date night! Oh, and I love your outfit! I can’t believe the necklace and bracelet are from Forever 21.. So cute!
If I could see any concert right now it would definitely be Luke Bryan, love him! 🙂
