It’s Thursday. Per usual, I thought it would be fun to catch up and go through a list of thoughts and things that have popped up throughout the week for Thinking Out Loud!
I’m so glad a lot of you like reading these random thoughts and musings every now and then. I enjoy putting them together, and continue to do so in hopes that something brings a smile to your afternoon!
• I’m absolutely loving reading your responses to this post.
Reading what you guys are afraid and not-so afraid of is oddly intriguing to me. Maybe I’m a weirdo. Maybe it’s just nice to see that I’m not alone in some of my fears. Maybe I’m still a weirdo. Oh well, keep ’em coming!
• I never shared this picture of Roadie, and I have no idea why.
I legitimately laugh out loud every time I see it.
He’s so great. And that (winter weight) turkey neck is officially out of control. <3
• Space heaters are magical.
Why I still don’t have at least one for our house is beyond me. I started typing up this post while I was sitting behind the desk at the gym, and I can still feel the comfort of the “hot spot” heater there. Sitting in the direct path of blowing heat makes me so happy. Almost as happy as coffee… almost.
• I need to step up my cardio game.
I shared this photo on Instagram earlier this afternoon, and I’m still feeling energized to take on my day with a surge of post-workout endorphins.
I haven’t had access to a treadmill since the summer, and this has had a huge impact on my workouts. If I wasn’t running outside, I used to hop on a treadmill or elliptical and complete a cardio workout at least twice a week for years!
These days, I have the choice of running outside in the winter (which is always freezing temperatures… literally) or getting on the bike at the gym. I finally took advantage of the machine today and knocked out 35 minutes of straight cardio. It had been far too long, and I honestly missed it.
• The core workout I shared this morning is legit.
After my spin on the bike, I wanted to try out the workout I posted on the blog earlier.
I was confident it was a good one, but man… I really loved it. Each round of exercises took just about five minutes, so I completed three sets in just under fifteen. That all added up to a great workout in under an hour today.
Woo hoo!
• speaking of freezing temperatures…
Check out the frozen snow! I remember noticing a crunchy layer of snow a few times throughout the last winter, but this top layer of hardened snow has been sticking around for almost a week now!
I guess it’s to be expected with a high 18 degrees today, but wow.
• I can’t get enough sweet potatoes in my belly this week.
In my quinoa, on the side of dinner, and in my chili, sweet potatoes have had an extra sweet spot reserved in my heart lately.
Are you just as smitten by this delicious orange vegetable as I am? I feel like some of you are. I still laugh when I think about my mom telling me I used to actually turn orange when I was a baby because I loved them so much. I guess some things don’t really change!
All right. I’ve got some work to get to around here, so I better go. I hope you have a great rest of the day, and I’ll see you back here first thing tomorrow morning with Friday Favorites! <3

Question of the Afternoon
What is one thing you would share if you were Thinking Out Loud?
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries
Awww, sweet Roadie! He sure does look adorable in that photo.
I’m with you… sweet potatoes are one of my biggest food loves! 😉 We just had some other night that I tossed in olive oil and roasted in the oven. SO GOOD!
Heather
Hehe, thanks! Yum! Roasted sounds very tasty right about now…
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul
I love that picture of Roadie! We haven’t had any frozen snow in Omaha. We don’t even have any snow on the ground right now. Its been a really mild winter!
Heather
Luckyyyyy! 😉
Amy @ Mama Running for God
I love that photo of Roadie! So cute! I know all about frozen snow. We got snow, then this week we got the freezing rain on Monday night/Tuesday morning and now it is just slippery out. I am in Iowa.
Do you boil your sweet potatoes before putting them on chili? Or how do you cook them? My husband wants to know, he loves sweet potatoes!
Heather
These are actually from a steam bag, already pre-cut and cubed! I found them at Target. If I don’t use those, I usually cook them in the oven!
Pretty Little Grub
I’ve been the same way with sweet potatoes. So yummy! I’m planning spin tonight and then I’ll finish it off with your workout. Seems like a good plan.
Heather
Sounds like a great combo to me!
Courtney {Alkeks Abroad}
When I was a baby my nose turned orange because I ate so many carrots and sweet potatoes! No one ever believes me though so I’m glad to hear it happened to someone else.
Heather
Too funny! I liked carrots too, but they were nothing compared to the sweet potatoes. Love it!
Stacy @ Sweating Tulipz
What a stud Roadie is even with his turkey neck! My dog is on a daily steroid due to Addison’s disease and he is my Mr. Fluffpants because he is a chubb-a-lubb but can’t help it…well he can, but who wants to deny a dog a treat when they have a disease…not this girl!
I’m right there with you about the sweet taters! I have been feeling that way about quest bars lately too. NOT GOOD! lol! 😉
Heather
Awww, thanks! I think so too 😉 and I know exactly what you mean… it’s hard for me not to give him and he cats treats!
fitfullfun
I love our little space heater! I’m actually mad with my hubby right now. He put ours away “thinking” winter weather was over, and now we are back in the 20s as a high for today. 🙁 Gotta find that thing fast! Only thing on my mind is SPRING!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
I’ve been turning to sweet potatoes more and more since I found out that regular potatoes were giving me headaches, and I’m kind of obsessed. Soups, smoothies, snacks, breads, cookies… there’s really nowhere I won’t put them. At least I won’t have to use a fake tanner to get a nice glow 😉
Aaron
Roadie looked so adorable in that pic! Hmm, coffee or space heaters? Why not try to have both at home so that winter can be a little less depressing?
