Good morning! How was the weekend? Mine entailed the perfect amount activity paired with the perfect amount of laziness. It’s a beautiful balance.
But, before we dive into the highlights, I want to back up and thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Your kind words, messages, and comments left on Friday’s post mean so much to me. Thank you for your love, prayers, and encouragement during this hard time. <3
Since Scott was traveling throughout the weekend, I was left solo to enjoy the weekend on my own with the fur kids. The timing wasn’t awful, since I didn’t really feel like doing a whole bunch of anything. It was a hard and emotional week.
If I could sum up my entire weekend with four words, it would be food, friends, runs, and rest. Just for fun, let’s go into the highlights and stories anyways!
Friday
Gosh, Friday was weird. It started off with a 5:30 a.m. wakeup call to type up last week’s Friday Favorites. I stayed on the computer for the majority of the morning and finally tore myself away around lunch time.
Roadie had been getting sick and acting strange, so I called the vets to ask if his behavior was anything I should be worried about. The lady I talked to said it didn’t sound like an emergency, but it would be good to bring him in just as a precaution. That was all she had to say for me to make a 1:30 p.m. appointment and be on our way.
Poor Roadie. Not only did the vet say he is experiencing stomach sensitivity, nausea, and discomfort, but she also found two concerning lumps on his body. I pointed out a strange looking red one to her on his elbow, but I totally missed the other one on his neck.
Needless to say, we wound up with a hefty vet bill that day. We are awaiting results of the test that will tell us how concerned we really need to be with the red one, and I am giving him meds and monitoring his behavior in the mean time.
As soon as I walked in the door to drop Roadie off, I hopped right back in the car to head to the gym for an afternoon appointment. We whipped through her workout, and since I had the gym to myself, I completed the same one for my workout of the day before I left. It was nice.
I ran a few errands with the most exciting one ending in dinner from Chipotle.
Hungry, I thoroughly savored my loaded salad with chicken, brown rice, black beans, and all the salsas, cheese, a side of guacamole, and several episodes of Sex and the City.
I guess the cat’s out of the bag… I’ve been super obsessed with that show (although I have already seen the entire series) lately.
Aspen literally came out of the Chipotle bag to watch and say hello too.
Isn’t the level of curiosity and entertainment cats have with plastic and paper bags hilarious?
Saturday
I slept in far longer than I thought I would on Saturday. I missed out on a morning yoga class with friends, which was a bummer, but I guess there’s always next week.
I caught up on some work on the computer, snuggled with Roadie (he slept in my pillows the entire night which isn’t normal), and made a trip to our local market for produce and groceries.
It was a chilly but beautiful afternoon, so I took that as a sign to go for a run. I wasn’t going to take Roadie (since he obviously wasn’t feeling like himself)… but he gave me his puppy eyes.
I gave in and took him on an easy two mile jog around the neighborhood. He was smiling, until I wanted to snap a photo of course. Any time the camera comes out on a run, it’s all business with him. #SeriousSally
I could tell he wasn’t happy that I dropped him off, but I did my best to ignore his puppy eyes (again) and set out for three more miles through the trails.
It had been far too long since I ran more than four miles! It felt great to be back at it.
I grabbed a coconut water as soon as I walked inside, and I got to work making a double batch of cornbread for a get together later that night.
A friend of ours is moving to Chicago, so the girls from our bible study threw her a going away party. Chili was on the menu, so I offered to bring homemade cornbread. Sticking to what works, I chose this totally addictive cornbread recipe that also happens to be lightened up and gluten-free from Chocolate Covered Katie. It was delicious!
I was one of the last to arrive, so our group dug into dinner shortly after. The Southerner turned Midwesterner in me was excited to see chili over noodles! Not a lot of people do that up here. I went back for seconds and then some.
Our sweet hosts, Kelly and Brian, ordered Amanda a dessert we deemed her “wedding cake”, and we had plenty of sweets to go around.
The group of us spent the evening in the basement playing games like group ping pong, Mafia, and Psychologist for hours. It was so fun!
As the night came to a close, we said our goodbyes to Amanda and helped her cut into her wedding cake.
The women in this picture make up the weekly bible study I have been a part of for over six months. In just that short amount of time, I have grown close with so many of them! They are all awesome individuals I fully intend to “do life with” as we like to say.
We will sure miss Amanda in our weekly meet-ups!
Sunday
I walked into church later than expected yesterday after more concerns with Roadie. He got sick again, so I didn’t feel comfortable leaving until I knew he would be okay.
I was easily talked into joining a few friends for brunch afterwards at a charming (extremely tiny) family restaurant in Lake Orion called Baldwin Cafe.
The place has been family owned and operated for decades! They offer a variety of extremely affordable menu items in the form of breakfast, brunch, and lunch, but I’ve never gotten past their page of breakfast options.
This time I ordered the Farmer’s Omelet that had ham, peppers, onions, cheese, and hash browns inside with a side of tomato slices and buttered raisin toast. That was the first time I ever experienced hash browns inside my omelet, and it was fantastic!
After being inside for an hour or so when I got home, I got the itch to go for a long walk with Roadie. I stayed away from running this time, and kept going as long as he looked like he was enjoying himself and feeling okay.
The pup went four miles without wavering!
We could have even gone longer, but I didn’t want to push him too hard. Plus, it was getting really windy out. It actually started flurrying snowflakes when we walked inside!
(See them in the photo? It’s almost April. Not okay.)
I heated up a bowl of minestrone soup and took advantage of the extra cornbread I took home from the party to warm up. Yum!
Someone’s smiley face also warmed me right up by melting my heart.
I just love that mug!
I spent the rest of the day prepping work for the week since I am flying down to Florida to be with family this afternoon. I’ll still be posting while I am away, and hope to pop back in this afternoon. See ya then!

What was one highlight from your weekend?

Aw I hope Roadie feels better! That cornbread looks delicious! So glad I found your blog 🙂
Thank you so much! And I’m glad you found my blog too, thanks for reading 🙂
Sounds like a fun filled weekend! One highlight from my weekend was attending a friends birthday party on Saturday. The best part about it was that we are all in the same wedding in September so it was like round one of the party! 🙂
Aw, that sounds like so much fun! I bet you all will have a blast celebrating from now until then 😉
Looks like a good weekend to me! Now I want to eat Chipolte and watch SATC, that sounds glorious!
Haha, it was a pretty glorious Friday night. No complaints ok my end!
Hope Roadie feels better and it’s nothing serious! Hate seeing our dog children struggle.
I know! And I’m glad you understand “dog children”… very accurate 😉
Looks like a fantastic weekend! I was in the same boat when it came to running – I felt like it was so sunny that I had to take advantage of it!
When you live somewhere with what feels like winter for six months, it’s hard not to want to go outside!
I am glad you had a great weekend! So sorry to hear about your grandpa; that’s hard.
Thank you, Bri. <3
That cornbread looks amazing! I love how the hashbrowns were IN the omelette! Creative 🙂 Sending you both good wishes.
Right?? I need to try it at home! Thank you 🙂
Whewwww that salad is enormous! That paired with Sex and the City seems like a pretty perfect day. My highlight was the result of hours of spring cleaning. My apartment was so tidy!! Haha… such a lame highlight but a satisfying one.
Poor Roadie! I’m sorry to hear that. But at least you rested up this weekend and spent time with friends. Safe travels to you!
Safe travels! I hope Roadie gets good news and feels better! All that food looks delicious! And thanks so much for linking up!
Sex and the City is a classic! It never gets old. I’ve seen all of the episodes but I still get really into them whenever I see they are on. I hope you had a great weekend and my deepest condolences for your loss! Sending prayers your way!
Hope Roadie gets to feeling better! Such a precious pup!
PS- That soup and cornbread looks AMAZING!
Mmmm, that breakfast looks on point! The perfect combination of sweet & savoury, plus buttered cinnamon raisin toast just cannot be beat. I hope all goes well with your travels. 🙂
I totally grew up on chili over noodles. I thought everyone did it, but I have come to learn that’s not true. Lol. Hope you are having a good week so far!
