Running my blog and online businesses has been an extremely weird thing to navigate through these uncertain times.
There’s a part of me that feels like I’m not being sensitive enough to the reality of the situation surrounding COVID-19, and another part craves as much normalcy and positivity as possible. So that’s where I’m at while sharing this with you today.
I would never be here talking about this if someone else hadn’t put the idea out there for me to listen to, so that’s what I’m hoping to do for anyone who might need to hear it right now. Because, when you think about it, having a side hustle or “plan B” is never a bad idea.
And I’m realizing that now more than ever!

All right, let’s chat about what it means to be a consultant, the perks, and answer some questions you might be wondering.
Why I Became a Beautycounter Consultant & FAQs
I said no to being a consultant of any type of direct sales company for years. Years and years, actually. It had never been something that interested me, because I never wanted to come across as spammy or having to sell to my friends. I didn’t like the concept of MLMs, and I assumed that I would have to recruit a team to be successful.
All of that may be true for some companies, but it’s just not the case with Beautycounter. But we’ll get into that in a minute.
I was introduced to Beautycounter by a friend of mine who invited me to her launch party in 2015. She had more of a mission to share what clean beauty means over selling products, and that really stood out to me. She also opened my eyes to what the state of our beauty industry is currently in, and what Beautycounter is doing to change that and the entire industry as a whole.
Here are some eye-opening facts that got me:
- Serious health issues (like cancer, infertility, and asthma) are on the rise and have a direct link to exposure to toxic chemicals, according to decades of studies.
- There are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market today – particularly in the skincare and beauty industry – and many do not have any safety data.
- The European Union has banned 1,400 ingredients from personal care products, while the U.S. has banned 30.
- The U.S. has not passed a major federal law governing transparency or what is used in the cosmetics industry since 1938.
- And, worst of all, the FDA does not currently have the authority to remove harmful ingredients from the products we buy and put on our bodies every day.
Okay, what is Beautycounter doing about it?
We have a clear mission to get safer products into the hands of everyone.
Whether you purchase from the brand or not, our goal is to literally clean up the beauty industry. We’re exposing the hard truth about product sourcing and bringing secrets to the surface in order to make a change in where things come from. We’re testifying to congress on the need to update our beauty laws and what’s legal to put in products everywhere. And we’re getting the country involved to help make a difference — you can text BETTERBEAUTY to 52886 to urge congress, too!

Beautycounter delivers high-performing, cleaner, safer versions of anything in your makeup bag or skincare routine, and we’ve promised to steer clear of over 1,800 harmful ingredients to do so. Plus, the products are the best! Seriously.
I’ll admit that I was hesitant to switch over to products that don’t have all of the additives … because they just can’t work as well. Right? Yeah, that’s a big no. I’m loving my Beautycounter skincare and makeup more than I have ever loved any line of products before, and this includes the ones that claim to melt wrinkles away and extend my lashes. And the best part about it all is that I’m getting results and feeling great about what I’m putting on my skin at the same time.

The more I researched, the more I fell in love with the company and actually felt like I was missing out by not joining in on the business side. I review products and share them with my blog and audience on my social pages on the regular … so it just made sense to take the leap. And it’s been the best decision for me and my family.
What exactly does being a Consultant mean?
What I love most about this brand (outside of changing the industry) is that there is zero pressure. You get what you put into it, and dedicate as much or as little time as you’d like to it. You can sign up to simply enjoy the 25% off discount and share your link with friends here and there on social, or put in extra work to create newsletters, craft emails, talk about the products on social regularly, host pop-ups/parties, and recruit a team to earn extra commissions.
The level of commitment is totally up to you!
Consultant Perks & FAQs
I wanted to stock up on clean beauty products, and signing up as a consultant gave me the opportunity to purchase starter kits (complete collections) at 40% off and get a lot more bang for my buck! Looking back, I wish I bought more. But, I was nervous, as most would be about diving into something new.
How much does it cost to join?
It’s typically $98 to join as a consultant (which includes your personal website, a tote bag, sample jars, two hero products – valued at $97 alone, brochures, business materials, and more.) You have the option to purchase a starter kit (or kits) of your choice, and all are priced at different tiers. Of course, the more you buy, the more you save and have access to for sampling and personal use. But purchasing anything else is completely optional.

I say typically, because the enrollment fee is being waived now through tomorrow with the purchase of any starter kit! This is HUGE, and something I did not get to take advantage of.
Tell me more about the perks.
Well, not only did I make my initial investment back within three months of joining, I have since doubled that same amount in profit within one month’s time. And, there’s definitely a potential to turn it all into a full-time gig, as I’ve seen it happen for many. My plan is to take it all one day at a time and share safer beauty hauls and honest reviews along the way.
Beyond the initial discount, consultants get 25% off of products year-round, early access to sales, pre-sales of product launches at extreme discounts, infinite host rewards to cash in on free and 50% off product opportunities, and more.
It’s basically like the best affiliate program ever.

You also have an incredible team of support that makes sure you have answers for anything that comes your way. I was actually blown away at how much I had access to and feel anything but alone in this journey!
What makes Beautycoutner different than MLMs?
Beautycounter is a highly-rated B-Corp, which is an extremely hard certification to get. They are ranked with Patagonia, Bombas, Athleta, and others as a company that uses their business for good. It’s a small group that earns this title of distinction, and Beautycounter was also named to the B Lab list Best For The World in 2019.
pretty much sums up who we are and what we do.
You can’t ride on other people’s coat tails, and I absolutely love this. I earn a percentage of the sales from people who sign up underneath me, but, I only get 5-9% of their sales versus 25-35% of my own. The variants all depend on your personal numbers for the month, and they typically change month-to-month. I think it’s awesome that Beautycounter makes you work to earn your paychecks, whether you’re doing everything solo or mentoring a team.
Also, people don’t have to go through consultants to buy products. There are a handful of retail stores across the United States, and you could even visit the website on its own at anytime without a consultant selected to your order.

Of course, I always appreciate you supporting my business by using my link while shopping:
There aren’t any products on auto-ship, and there aren’t any monthly sales minimums to hit along the way. From what I understand, all of these things are unique in comparison to the typical direct sales company.
What if I don’t have a blog or a big presence on social media – can I still be successful?
Oh my gosh, yes. I’m on a team that’s made up of full-time bloggers, part-time bloggers, lawyers, medical practitioners, hairdressers, stay-at-home moms, and everything in between. Some run their businesses completely online, while others don’t even have an Instagram account.
Beautycounter gives you the resources and access to all the training you need, and you can spin that into whatever you’d like to run your business. Everyone does things a little differently, and I really like that.
What if I sign up and then don’t have the time?
Like I mentioned above, you put in as little or as much time as you want. Personally, I like to group my work together and dedicate a few hours at a time just to my Beautycounter business. I’ve gotten the most success with this strategy, and I look forward to that time to sit and knock everything out. But again, everyone is different.
You could be successful as a consultant with as little as three dedicated hours a week to start. And worse case scenario, if it doesn’t work out for you, you would eventually become a Band of Beauty Member instead, which also has great perks.
Do you actually like doing this?
I love it! I shied away from talking about anything beauty related for years because I didn’t want to promote products that weren’t clean. It feels awesome to not only get to do that, but to share the mission to get safer products into the homes of everyone.

And it’s so fun! I love learning about all of the products, helping potential clients, and talking about what Beautycounter is doing in the world with anyone who will listen.
