It’s crunch time folks, and I am not talking about the kind with the Cap’n on the box.
What I am talking about is all of my favorite clean eats: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, protein loaded snacks, and a whole ‘lotta H2O.
Last week’s What I Ate Wednesday shared how I choose what to eat and how to fuel my body with what it needs based on what is going on in my life. There are days (and even weeks) at a time where I allow myself to eat whatever I want at any time of the day. This has almost become an annual occurrence during the off-season, or summer time.
This short-term pattern allows me to get the bigger indulgences (cheeseburgers, regular french fries, pizza, brownie sundaes) out of my system and re-channel my normal healthy eating lifestyle long-term.
Whatever floats your boat, right?
The last few weeks have been focused on “Audition Prep Mode” while getting ready for a new NBA season, starting with dancer auditions coming up this weekend.
With four days to go, we are down to the wire. Let’s see what’s been getting me ready to roll!
(Thank you, Jenn, for hosting another week!)
What I Ate Wednesday Yesterday
Breakfast started with the standard yogurt bowl I have been loving first thing in the morning lately.
I kept this one extremely simple by starting with a serving of Blueberry Non-fat Chobani Greek yogurt, then topping it with raw rolled oats and fresh blueberries.
Before driving across town to a new boot camp (more details about that adventure to come…), I also filled up with a large cup of my favorite kind of coffee.
During and after an hour long workout, I downed 32 oz. of water then stopped in the cafe at my gym for lunch, breakfast, brunch.
I had eggs on the mind and found something considerably healthy on the menu to order:
In my (whole wheat) wrap: cage-free eggs, roasted red peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, and feta cheese.
Okayyyyy, Life Cafe!
I got home around lunch time, hopped in the shower, and spent the remainder of the afternoon in the basement/home office working on the computer.
It’s days like this where I come armed with two things: water and snacks.
I have been downing water this week! My body can’t seem to get enough of it, especially with a new MiO flavor I brought home the other day.
Although I am not one to condone artificial sweeteners and preservatives, I just can’t seem to knock this habit. I don’t use much per serving, but I do tend to use water enhancers on a daily basis.
It just makes water sooooo good. *Sigh* I am hoping to fully switch over to lemon/fruit water instead one day soon.
Speaking of fruit, I also made a plate of it to take downstairs with me a few hours into working.
I didn’t eat it all at once, but nibbled on a handful of blueberries (yes… again), a peach, and a serving of Blue Diamond Whole Natural almonds throughout the afternoon/early evening.
Before I knew it, the sun was setting and my tummy was grumbling again. Dinner = yet another Monster Salad.
This one included: a mix of spring mix and baby spinach, baby cucumbers (no, I’m not trying to hint at anything here), carrots, red and yellow grape tomatoes, red and green peppers, black olives, and sliced deli ham topped with balsamic vinegar, grapeseed oil, and freshly ground pepper.
Not pictured is the handful (or so) of Reduced-Fat Wheat Thins dipped into Sabra Roasted Red Pepper hummus I enjoyed not too long after.
… and a tall glass of Light Chocolate Soy (GMO free!) Milk for dessert.
Eh, sometimes you just don’t feel like snapping photos. It happens!
Off to a full day of Pistons stuff starting with appearance on Belle Isle and and ending with our last dance clinic before auditions this weekend.
Happy Hump Day! 🙂

Your brunch meal looks awesome! I LOVE putting my morning eggs and veggies into wrap form. It is delicious and adds in some much-needed variety into my breakfast routine.
Heather
I could eat eggs and veggies at any meal!
FitBritt@MyOwnBalance
I love Sabra Roasted Red Pepper hummus. So good! I put fresh mint in my water and it tastes really good and is totally natural. I like it better than lemon and it’s so fresh!
Heather
I’m obsessed!! Thanks for the mint tip 🙂
Kim @ Hungry Healthy Girl
Try putting slices of cucumber in your water. It’s deliciously refreshing!
Heather
Yum!! Why did I forget about cucumber water?! So good.
Nikki @ The Road to Less Cake
I love the look of your snack plate. Yum.

I am trying to break myself of processed/artificial sugars, too. I can’t seem to for my morning coffee, but everywhere else I am doing well! I like fresh lemon in my water to help 🙂
Kelly @ Runs for Food
That looks like a great day of food. I would eat all of those things!
Lisa
Almost there!! You’re going to do awesome for your auditions.
I love doing the fruit in water thing. My Mom put me this giant water filter where you put water in it and then add the grapefruit/lemon/whatever fruit and just let it sit in there. It’s awesome. I guess it’s an infuser? Maybe I should figure that out before I blab about it ha.
Or I love putting frozen berries into water. So tasty.
Heather
Oh that sounds wonderful!! If you find out what it is, please let me know. Until then, I’ll be drooling! 😉

I try to compromise with myself and drink carbonated water with lime…it honestly feels like a soft drink!
Heather
Ohhhh great idea!!

Gretchen @ A Fit Fashionista
You are doing so good! I need to clean it up again and this is very inspiring! Thanks!
Heather
Thanks, Gretchen! Once you find every day staples you actually like, it’s easier than you think!
Ksenija @ Health Ninja
Monster salads are just the best with this heat outside! I have one nearly every day at the moment. And I am actually mumbling just know on berries and almonds for my afternoon snacks – I love how the almonds keep me satisfied for hours!
Heather
I could eat almonds all day long… lol.
Karen @ Runner Girl Eats
I keep a pitcher of cucumber-mint or lemon water in my fridge all the time. I switch between that and regular water to help me not get tired of the water flavor or feel the need to do the artificial sweetners.
Heather
Great idea!
Liz @ I Heart Vegetables
YUM! Your eats look delicious! So glad I stumbled across your blog 🙂 I’m trying to wean myself off artificial sweeteners, too… slowly 😉
Heather
Thanks Liz! Welcome 🙂
