I really don’t know who I am and who has taken over my body recently. Instead of snacking my head off yesterday (per usual), I skipped the in-between meals and stuck to three filling ones instead.
I promise this wasn’t on purpose! Even though it is auditions week, that does not mean I intentionally deprive myself of food. My appetite has actually been a bit lighter than normal, and I think it’s because my stomach has become so used to eating clean! I tend to get fuller faster these days.
Today’s What I Ate Wednesday has an unintentional focus on sneaking greens onto my plate, with a cameo from my favorite furry running buddy.
(As always, a big shout out to Jenn for hosting another one!)
What I Ate Wednesday Yesterday
Breakfast was simple, yet everything I needed. Paired with a big cup of my favorite coffee, I enjoyed an egg white scramble with spinach and shredded cheese.
Also on my plate was the last three slices of Jenni-O turkey bacon left in the refrigerator. Cooked crispy, I could eat about 25 slices of it. No but really.
Lunch resembled what I like to call a “fajrito,” which you might see pop up on the blog from time to time.
After Semi-Finals Monday night, a fellow dancer and friend of mine, Amanda, and I rewarded our hard work with a trip to Chili’s. I haven’t been to that restaurant in ages, so I allowed myself to indulge in all the chips and salsa I wanted. I don’t regret that decision one tiny bit.
While I usually order soup and a house salad there, I had fajitas on the brain and settled on ordering a mix of steak and chicken. Any time I order fajitas, it’s almost a given that I will have leftovers for the next day.
The beautiful thing about leftovers is you can alter the meal a little at home. For example, I exchanged the plain white tortillas from the restaurant for one big Smart & Delicious™ High Fiber, Low Carb tortilla from La Tortilla Factory. It was a little messy and may have required using a fork but was so, so good.
(Note to self: re-create these fajitas at home!)
Keeping busy during the afternoon, I didn’t even get to lunch until about 3 p.m. which kept me extremely full until dinner.
At about 8 p.m., I figured it was “now or never” time to get in a run outside before sunset. I can tell Roadie has been on the bored side lately, so I decided to take him with me this time.
Getting these new ATV19 all-terrain running shoes in the mail a few days ago (thanks, Reebok!) inspired me to hit the trails and show Roadie what the great outdoors really looks like.
While I normally have to encourage him to keep up, he was the one pulling me this go around. I could tell he was excited to get some fresh air!
We hit the same trail Scott and I stumbled upon just outside of our neighborhood back in January. Looks like a completely different place with leaves on the trees, doesn’t it?
Yay for Michigan summers!
I have to say I am already loving these running shoes. I will post a full review soon, but for now I will stick with they feel like I could run through mud, sand, piles of bricks, fire… pretty much anything.
Upon our return, both Roadie and I didn’t waste any time downing water and eating dinner.
Dinner came in the form of a smoothie bowl for me. May sound weird to some, but I have been craving one ever since I saw Lisa‘s Healthy Vegan Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream yesterday.
My smoothie was neither minty, nor chocolatey, but it certainly satisfied my craving for something cold and refreshing after my run!
In my bowl: (without measuring anything… oops!)
• frozen strawberries
• fresh spinach
• 1 banana
• light vanilla soy milk
• splash of orange juice
• 1 scoop French Vanilla Designer Whey Sustained Energy
• low-fat cottage cheese
• sprinkle of flax seeds
I made enough to fill the bowl about a time and a half and ate/drank the entire thing. I was good and probably one of the most filling smoothies I have ever made!
Still full at midnight, I decided to skip dessert too.
Seriously… Who. Am. I?
I guess that does it for this week’s WIAW! Tonight is the final night of auditions, so I hope to have some good news to share with you tomorrow. No matter what the outcome, I am sure there will be stories along the way.
Questions of the Day
• What are some of your favorite eats lately?
• Are you a serious snacker, or do you generally stick to eating bigger meals?
Anyone who knows me knows my answer to the second question. I am (usually) the definition of a serious snacker. At any given time, I will have at least a protein bar (or three), some kind of nut/fruit mix, and at least one serving of fruit like an apple, banana, or grapes on hand. Since I started dancing and being away from home for the majority of the day, I have always armed myself with healthy snacks, as young as elementary school. Healthy snacking is second nature by now.
If you need any healthy snack ideas, have at ’em!

Yesterday, in the mist of running errands after work, (and knowing I am a monster if I am hungry with no snacks) I whipped out 2 hard boiled eggs from my purse. The look on my boyfriends face was priceless. Yay for travel snacks! 🙂
Haha, that’s awesome!! I love it.
Smoothie bowls are the only way I eat mine! Love them thick and creamy topped with granola or nuts and eaten with a spoon. Especially for dinner, makes me feel like I’m eating more of a meal when it’s eaten with a spoon!
Exactly! I’ve been CRAVING them lately!
My hunger is always way low when I’ve been working out a lot! (And then it catches up big time!) Maybe it’s from the extra cardio during additions! Your food all looks delicious
Thank you! Maybe you’re right about the cardio? Funny, because you’d think it would be opposite!
I LOVE the “fajirto” idea!! That is so clever! I love the name, too! 😉
Ha, thanks Hannah! I think I’m funny sometimes. 😉
*think* <- meant to sound sarcastic. lol.
Yum! That smoothie looks so good!
Thanks! Wasn’t my best combination, but still very tasty and incredibly filling!
Loveeee those sneakers!!! And Roadie I’m sure had tons of fun. I’ll have to try that smoothie in a bowl idea 🙂
Yes! I just started doing smoothie bowls. It’s hard to go back now, since you can sprinkle in almost anything to crunch on top!
Good luck with final auditions!
I am definitely a serious snacker. I love snacking! My favs include nuts, hummus with veggies and pretzels, fruit, greek yogurt and bars. Recently I’m loving anything and everything that contains fresh produce, especially berries!
All great things I enjoy too! 🙂
I’ve never seen trail shoes like that! Loving the colors.
Thanks! Me too. More on them coming soon!
Loving the smoothie bowl for Dinner! I do it so often haha. Probably like 3 times a week. It just seems so much more appealing then turning on the oven while it’s so hot out.
The trail in your neighbourhood is so gorgeous! I love walking along trails in Summer. So nice.
Exactly, I’ve been craving them since its been so hot. Thanks! I’m excited to finally get some good trail runs in now that the snow is gone. 😉
I do 3 meals and 1 afternoon snack. I am not a “snacker”. I typically munch on almonds/apple, KIND bars, fruit + nut butter, or hummus/veggies. Lately I cannot get enough of blueberries and peaches in my protein pancakes. Delicious summer flavors! Nom Nom!
Love protein pancakes! It’s weird but my eating habits are slowly turning into 3 meals and one snack. Funny how appetites change!
Love those shoes! Super cute!!
