Hello and Happy Wednesday! How’s the day going for you?
Hopefully quickly, like mine.
We had a home game last night and I woke up absolutely zonked this morning. I set my alarm early enough to ensure that most of my work was done before plans to hit the gym around lunch time. Instead, I listened to my body and gave it a little extra rest. I plan to make my workout up tomorrow night, on a day where I don’t have any scheduled dance activities.
Do you ever allow yourself breaks? As much as I feel like I am slacking during the “skipped” activity I planned, I am a firm believer in training smart and giving in when you feel like your body needs the rest to function it’s best.
Considering we have a long halftime rehearsal tonight, two more home games Friday and Saturday, and a dance workshop and rehearsal Sunday, I know my aching joints will appreciate the temporary hiatus.
Anyways, while gathering my pictures of yesterday’s eats to share this week’s WIAW, I clicked over to Peas & Crayons to see if there is any specific theme to the month of February. (Late to the party, much?)
Lucky for me it’s Love Your Veggies Month, and conveniently coincides with the theme of yesterday’s meals.
What I Ate Wednesday Tuesday
I knew I wanted something different for breakfast yesterday. As hooked on gluten-free waffles and overnight oats as I am, I wanted to change it up a bit and try something new.
I have mentioned before that I used to work in a breakfast/brunch restaurant. While serving there for three years (!!!) I had the best daily inspiration for new meal ideas right in front of me. Oh how I miss that food!
Occasionally, I remember bits and pieces of menu items and odd requests from customers for orders. I used to serve the cutest elderly man named Earl who always requested “fluffy” scrambled eggs made with a splash of milk in them. It always sounded good, but I never actually tried it until yesterday.
Also stepping out of my comfort zone, I used real cage-free eggs instead of eggbeaters and cooked my two slices of turkey bacon on a skillet instead of just heating it up in the microwave. (Watch out, people!) Finishing off my plate was a generous serving of sliced bananas, grapes and half a green apple.
Always included in breakfast is a giant cup of coffee, I just stopped including it in the pictures. Here is how I usually take it.
I felt satisfied until a late lunch around 2 p.m., and dug right into the last of our Hearty Vegetable Minestrone Soup when I became hungry again!
Ahhh, it’s so good I can’t even stand it! Soon after, I also enjoyed a small bowl of leftover fruit from breakfast.
I headed back downstairs and got back on the computer right up until I had to get in the shower and ready to be on my way to the game. Trying something new, I scrunched and defused my hair for this one (far left)!
I’ll be sure to share some close up photos later on this week along with a quick tutorial of what I did. I got a lot of compliments on the “wild” style and will be sporting the same curls for this weekend’s games.
Oh… back to the food. I arrived to the locker room around a quarter to 5 p.m. and still felt full enough from lunch until after court time.
I had a ton of extra time to get ready this game, so I enjoyed it by lounging around. I’m also happy to say they finally listened to our request for better locker room food!
Deli turkey meat, a slice of (jack?) cheese, veggies (and ranch!) and fruit really does go a long way. I happily consumed this plate as a snack and then picked at more veggies and fruit as the night went on.
I also scarfed down this Chocolate Chip Clif Energy Bar at halftime!
Although we didn’t pull a Win this time, Scott and I took it upon ourselves to go out and grab dinner after anyways. We ended up going back to one of our favorite Mexican spots, Sagebrush Cantina in Lake Orion.
After a long day, I was craving something sweet and decided to enjoy my dessert first with a frozen pina colada. #sorryimnotsorry
I also had quite a generous serving (or five) of corn tortilla chips and fresh salsa that is unpictured. For dinner, I split shredded chicken fajitas with a friend and requested corn tortillas instead of the regular flour.
For those of you who don’t know, they are gluten-free and seem to be much better on my belly!
We ended up chatting the night away and didn’t get home until close to 1 a.m. I guess that might have been part of my problem this morning too! Ehhh… what’cha gonna do.
And there you have a typical game day of eating for yours truly. Substantial breakfast, veggie packed lunch, snacks, more snacks, then a well deserved dinner. Hey, there were some sauteed veggies in those fajitas. 😉
Have a great rest of your Wednesday!
Questions of the Day
• Do you ever allow yourself to take unscheduled breaks from workouts?
• What do you like to order at a Mexican restaurant?
I feel like I am always ordering chicken fajitas. Every once in a while I will mix it up with a taco or Southwest salad, or even with a couple of chicken tacos. I am starting to think I am missing out on some of the good (but still reasonably healthy) stuff!

I love ordering Taco Salads from Mexican restaurants! Although Im sure the giant taco bowl they serve it in is not the best for you it sure does taste good 😉
Haha, sometimes those things intimidate me!
yay on the regular eggs! Maybe next regular bacon too? 😉
Oh I definitely eat regular bacon. I just don’t buy it. I’m so weird!
Look at you mixing everything up today! Your eggs, your bacon, your hair… 😉 It would be so fun to work at a cafe!
Hehe, hey you have to do it every now and then right? Congrats on the new blog launch!
I always believe in giving yourself unscheduled breaks in your workouts if you feel you need them. Whenever I force myself into a workout that I don’t feel prepared for it always feels like I didn’t really get out of it what I could have anyway.
Yes. And then my next workout is even better!
I love eggs for breakfast! So yummy and satisfying. I’m a turkey bacon girl too- can’t do the real stuff!
I’m all about the chips and salsa and guac at any mexican restaurant!
Eggs are def one of my top fav foods…so many options! Love your curly hair too 🙂
I definitely break when I need to. I schedule Fridays off – normally – but plan workouts every other day of the week knowing that if I need another one – whenever – that I can take it – guilt free!
