Good morning! Hope the day is treating you well.
Wait a minute… it’s Thursday? Yowza.
The days and weeks are just flying right by this year. You know how I know? I have a half marathon to run in less than seven weeks. I guess that is why you could say I have been bitten by the running bug again, but we will talk more about that next week.
Yesterday I took Roadie out for a quick two miles around the neighborhood in my new Reebok Z Goddess sneakers. I continue to take my ZQuicks on every trip I have been on, and got excited when I received a new fun and bright version to try out. Thanks, Reebok!
Quickly following our short loop outside, I continued my workout with two rounds of a familiar bodyweight circuit indoors.
It got me nice and sweaty in no time, hence earning the right to wear this Lorna Jane tank. (<- sorry, this particular one appears to be discontinued.)
Absolutely accurate.
You should all know where I stand on this subject by now. I am a firm believer in eating whatever your body is craving, even if your goal is to lose or maintain weight, IF you do so in moderation and pair it with a decent amount of exercise.
While I do enjoy working out at home, I am starting to miss frequenting a gym and taking part in weekly group exercise classes. Who knows, maybe I will break down and get a temporary membership to my old gym until I figure out what is next. There is a Fitness Pilates class going on tonight with my favorite instructor… just sayin’.
Breakfast
This morning started with an 8 a.m. breakfast I am still picking at.
Van’s gluten free waffles topped in strawberry Greek yogurt and berries.
Speaking of working hard for treats, I wasn’t too hungry after the splurge on pizza and cookies for dinner last night. Oh, and don’t forget the skittles.
In my defense, there was also a (tiny) salad and Scott and I both ate at a church function. I’m excited to share more about what we are doing coming up in the fall!
For now, I’ll leave you with a close up of what I should be highlighting.
I know… I’m dramatic. But it made you want to go find and eat some fruit, right? Even maybe one of you? Shoot. Mission accomplished.
All right, it’s time to get the day going. I’ll be back later today with the next post of notes in my series of IDEA sessions. Stay tuned!
Questions of the Morning
• Do you enjoy working out at home, or does it take going to a gym to get you moving?
• Favorite type of “cheat food” to enjoy after “you’ve earned it”… GO.
Catherine
I used to strictly workout in a gym and couldn’t imagine working out at home. Fast forward several years and now I only workout at home and can’t imagine going back to a gym setting in the immediate future. I love being able to get in a workout at any time, not having to fight for equipment or work around the fitness class schedule and I actually think I experiment with more types of workouts since I have a membership to Fitnessglo and love having a variety of workout videos available on their website.
My fave splurges are pizza and my husband homemade spaghetti sauce. Great … now I’m craving both foods!
I was just saying to one of my co-workers that this August flew by. Glad I’m not the only one that feels that way.
Heather
It’s so funny how it changes, depending what is going on in our lives. I’ve always been a fan of a mixture of home and gym/studio workouts. Oh, and thanks for the reminder about Fitnessglo! I have a gift certificate I need to cash in there. Glad to hear you’re enjoying your membership!
Amanda @ Positively Amanda
I prefer to workout at the gym. I feel I get too distracted at home and takes me twice as long to actually do the whole workout. And my favorite splurge is by far triple chocolate ice-cream!
Heather
I can hardly say no to chocolate or ice cream. Triple chocolate ice cream? Done.

I work out both at the gym and at home. I prefer the gym there are more people which makes it more exciting. Shared pain is the best pain 🙂 If I want a cupcake I eat one. Health is about balance not good food vs. cheat food.
Heather
“Health is about balance not good food vs. cheat food.” I like that. And I hate saying “cheat” food… that’s why I quote it!
Leslie @ Life Begins at 30?
I work much harder at the gym. When I workout at home, I get distracted by chores, the dog, the television, etc. My favorite splurge is definitely pizza. I love it!
Heather
I totally feel you on the distractions! I seem to get a lot more work done if I take it with me somewhere 😉
IHeartVegetables
Hah! I’m all for working out for chocolate 😉 And I’m definitely going to give that circuit workout a try!
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries
I ADORE those Reebok shoes!! The colors are awesome too. I think I need a pair of those… Yes, NEED. 😉
Workout for chocolate – absolutely! There’s rarely a day that goes by that I have at least a little something chocolate.
I’m definitely more motivated in a gym environment rather than working out at home. I did a lot of at-home workouts when Hunter was a newborn since it was just easier than loading us up, but once we got on a better schedule, I was all about my group fitness classes. And now that I’m teaching classes, I love it even more!
Presley
I miss the gym. I really don’t get to go as often as I’d like. Group fitness all the way! i get so distracted without people telling me what to do the whole time. 😉
Heather
Totally. I love being able to show up and not having to think about anything… besides what I’m making for dinner or something. 😉
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment
I am a gym person for sure. I will workout at home in a pinch, but I really like being able to disconnect a little bit. Love that tank! Totally fits me too. 🙂
Katie @ Daily Cup of Kate
Love the workout- totally doing this tomorrow am!
Elsie @ Sharing Healthiness
At the moment I am a home exerciser. If I am able to find a good gym then I definitely splurge on that but I also like to create my own mini workouts and challenge myself so I am happy doing it at home. Also I know that I can squeeze it in whenever I have time and don’t stress over making it on time for the class.
That breaksfast looked really delicious! My “earned” meal definitely has to be bread, cheese and a key lime pie as dessert! HEAVEN.
Whitney
I love going to the gym because I don’t get distracted there – I’m there to workout and that’s what I do. When I try to workout at home, I think about all the other things I could be doing. In downward dog, I notice all the dirt on my floor and think, “I need to vacuum.” In the middle of a cardio workout I think, “I should really put a load of clothes in the wash so that they’re done when my workout is over.” Too. Many. Distractions. If it takes an at-home workout to earn some chocolate, though, I will totally do it! 🙂
