You will often see the names of my family members and close friends appear on the blog.
Here’s a little bit more about them!
• SCOTT
I met my husband, Scott, in 2007 while working in the NBA. I was a dancer and he was in entertainment in Orlando, Florida.
I have mentioned that we met working together for the Orlando Magic many times on the blog. We were friends for a while and then grew really close as time went by. I often joke that he stole my heart on a plane ride to China. We have officially been together for over seven years!
We got engaged in 2010, married in the summer of 2011, and moved up to the Metro Detroit area in October of 2012. I’m not sure that Michigan was fully ready for us.
I am thankful that we have a shared interest in staying active, and his super sweet and sarcastic personality reminds me never to take myself or life too seriously.
He is an Entertainment Director for the Detroit Pistons, so you will often see me attend the games to support the team.
Scott is very supportive of my work on the blog, and I think he secretly loves the fact that I have this outlet to document our life travels and whereabouts. I plan to continue blogging for years to come, as long as it makes sense for what I am doing and our family!
We don’t have any kids, but we are just starting to talk about taking the next steps to starting a family of our own. In the mean time, we have three awesome (and crazy) furballs I truly consider to be fur children.
• ROADIE
Scott found Roadie (a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix) as a stray in the parking lot of our condo in Orlando over the holidays in 2010.
We took him in for the night and spent the next couple of weeks calling vets and shelters trying to find his home. Without any success, we took him to the vets and found out he had heart worms. From that day forward, we treated him and kept him as our own!
I’m so glad we found him. He’s literally by my side at every opportunity.
Runs, workouts, sleeping, eating, driving, riding… there he is!
We weren’t looking for a dog when he wandered into our lives, but we are so grateful that he did! He is the snuggliest 60 pound lap dog I have ever seen, and you will see me post about his crazy antics quite often. He’s very entertaining.
• ASPEN & CALI
Cali is “the chill” calico, and Aspen is “the bossy” grey kitty.
I asked for a cat for Christmas in 2009 and Scott surprised me by bringing home two of them! He adopted them from the same home and they have always been super close.
I always say that if you aren’t a “cat person”, then you haven’t met our cats yet. They’re hilarious and are always ready for attention.
(or yoga)
They all get along great, which is actually why we even considered keeping Roadie in the first place. With three needy pets in our home, it’s almost a guarantee that one of them will be on you at any given time.
Pet hair is the new black, y’all. At least that’s what Scott and I keep saying…
• MY IMMEDIATE FAMILY
I come from a family of five. They all live in Orlando, Florida which is where I grew up and lived for twenty seven years. I miss them every day, and I am still adjusting to living so far away. We make trips home and they make trips up as much as possible!
(Mom and I in Clarkston, MI.)
My mom is very active and has run in just as many half marathons as I have! She visited us last Thanksgiving, and I was so happy to have her company running the Turkey Trot!
My dad is probably the biggest goofball I’ll ever meet. He loves life and is actually from Monroe, Michigan!
He works as a freelance designer and inspired me to go for my own dream job in something other than an office setting.
(Dad and I at our favorite barbeque spot down South.)
I have a brother and sister who both live near home in Orlando, Florida.
My sister, Trish, is a beautiful mother of two who shares my obsession for candles and Friends reruns.
My brother, Clay, is the same age as Scott (11 years older than me!) and you can usually find him at the beach with his surfboard.
It’s definitely been challenging living across the country from both of our families. Scott was born and raised all over Missouri and Arkansas, so it sure is a treat when we get to see them!
