Your vision to start a church in New York City was not an easy one. It’s took years of persistence and prayer for @c3.nyc to host our first service at the Brooklyn Music Hall which served as the DTBK location in 2017. It didn’t take us long to connect to a dinner party and find family here in NYC, and we are so grateful for that community.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
This year’s vision hit different. We’ve all overcome so much more than we could have ever imagined. The Vision Builder’s Gala always has a huge impact on everyone attending and an even bigger impact on those that the church will now have the chance to touch. This year’s event was life-changing for our family.⁣
⁣⁣
There isn’t a lot that Scott and I have held onto throughout this unforeseen and unthinkable year. We’ve had highs and lows take over, but the biggest thing we have held onto throughout the hardest days and months of 2020 has been our faith. And it's actually grown stronger.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
God has a plan for us — ALL of us. And if you don’t think that He’s paying attention, you're wrong. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
God is there and wants to bless us. He wants to teach us lessons and mold us into the people that can tell His stories and share His love.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
God always shows up … but in His perfect timing, not our own. We just have to be patient and listen for what He’s asking us to do. And then we do.⁣⁣

Even in the hardest moments of our life, there is an opportunity to learn and grow. There is a chance to hone into the plan - not OUR plan - and ask for guidance. There is a chance to grow closer to God and lean on Him to show us the next steps. ⁣⁣

I don't know about you, but it's really easy for me to get into a funk these days! 2020 is certainly testing our patience, and today was one of those days where I just felt irritated after a rainy day inside. ⁣
⁣
After hours of feeling this way, I knew it would benefit everyone around me if I took the 30 minutes of free time that I had without Skyler today and just go for a quick strength workout.⁣
⁣
I didn't go in with too much of a plan since the gym is still spaced out with equipment in all different places, but I grabbed a kettlebell, a set of medium dumbbells, a stability ball and got to work.⁣
⁣
𝐒𝗪𝐈𝐏𝐄 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐨𝐮𝐭! 🏋🏻‍♀️⁣

Well, just as predicted ... I got in, I got out, and I felt like a new person afterwards. You've got to love those post-exercise endorphins! 💯⁣

Thankful that the rain held out for a quick ferry ride over to Governor’s Island for some fall fare and awesome views of Manhattan today!

Just wanted to throw a mid-week check-in out there. How are you doing? How are you feeling? Loaded questions, I know. 🙊⁣

I don't know about you, but I 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 feel like a better version of myself when I'm on track with eating (mostly) healthy meals and exercising regularly ... and this is especially true in this crazy season.⁣
⁣
Does that mean that I restrict from the foods and things that I love? The old Heather used to, but I haven't done that for about a decade. And THAT feels amazing! 🙌🏼⁣
⁣
My biggest tips on living and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is to get rid of the extremes ... they just don't work and aren't realistic long-term. ⁣
⁣
Instead, go for whole foods first and as much as possible, aim to add some type of movement into every day (even if it's going for a walk!), and think of the food you're choosing as fuel for your activities.⁣
⁣
Are you working out a lot? You might want to include more protein and healthy carbs into your diet. Are you experiencing a serious sweet tooth? That's totally fine, enjoy the treats in moderation and maybe balance it out with plenty of vegetables and nutrient-dense foods, too!⁣

Mine is eating more vegetables at every meal, as I've been lacking and can totally tell. I just got back from the grocery store, and I'm excited about the salads and new soup recipe coming up! 🍃

I planed a killer workout for the gym today. Well, instead of completing it, I attempted to take a nap because I felt a migraine coming on and didn’t want to go down that road if I could help it.

The nap didn’t happen even though I tried (and let me add that I haven’t taken a nap in several months ... so it’s not a regular opportunity, lol.), so I got up and laced up my running shoes.

I set out without my normal focus on time or distance. (I also need to add that this is important to do sometimes.) I stopped and took walking breaks when I felt like it. I listened to slower music. I thoroughly enjoyed my surroundings, and felt like I caught a breath of fresh air.

And the headache went away. ✌🏼

I think today was a reminder that workouts can be improvised and adapted to what your body needs. Rest days are a thing for a reason, and scenic runs and walks are always an option — not to mention good for the body, mind and soul!

I hope you remember that next time your body is trying to tell you to unplug and slow down a little, I know I have a hard time listening at first, too. 🌳🍃

In this crazy season for so many, okay … everyone, this biggest takeaway I can offer is a shift in mindset and using events to react and replan instead of spiraling into self-pity or a negative way of thinking.

We don’t become the strong characters by getting everything handed to us. We don’t live up to our highest potentials without some roadblocks along the way. And, most importantly, we don’t earn the GRIT to keep pressing on without those trials.⁣

It’s a very rainy day in New York, but it’s still Friday and that’s something to celebrate.

Today is World Pregnancy & Infant Loss Remembrance

Today is World Pregnancy & Infant Loss Remembrance Day, and I would love to offer some encouragement to anyone and any family going through the struggle.⁣
⁣
I’ve shared my story many times, but if you haven’t heard it, here is a little of what I’ve learned after multiple losses during pregnancy.⁣
⁣
First of all, it happens a lot more than you think. I realized this after I opened up to share about it and had SO many women share their stories with me. I was so grateful for that support and it made me feel much less alone.⁣
⁣
Coping with a miscarriage is harder than you ever expect it to be. If you know, unfortunately, you know.⁣
⁣
There are good days where you feel completely okay, and there are bad days when you don’t know what else to do besides curl up into a ball and cry. And that’s okay.⁣
⁣
There’s no right or wrong way to grieve a loss. There’s also no timeline. You’re allowed to take as much time as you need, and every person grieves differently.⁣
⁣
And last, but certainly not least, lean on loved ones for support and reach out to those who have been through the experience before. Having those hard conversations with ladies who personally knew what I was going through somehow made it easier for me. I saw the light at the end of the tunnel, and it helped me realize that things will get better … eventually.⁣
⁣
I post a lot of photos of my baby boy, and I feel extremely grateful for him every single day. But, there also isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t think about our other angel babies and the "should have been" things and events.⁣

It’s okay to have feelings of grief and joy simultaneously.
⁣
