Good morning! This weekend was a good one. While I didn’t have too much planned, it seemed to get busier and busier as it went on!
Seriously. Where does the time go?
I feel like it is the days I predict will be relaxed and filled with tasks and projects are the days that go by the fastest. It’s like no plans? Okay… I might as well do this and this and this and <BAM> Monday happens. My mind gets blown every time!

To keep the good times rolling, here is a recap of what took place in our lives over the weekend. Because looking back at it is something we can do to make Mondays a little more marvelous. (<- blogger link up with Katie!)
Friday Night
Scott and I had plans for a date night. We ended up going to a funeral beforehand, which understandably left us both in weird moods. I guess that is to be expected though. Instead of letting the night slip by, we decided a quiet dinner and a movie sounded perfect.
Our first stop was at Noodles & Company, a quick stop-in made to order restaurant kind of similar to a Panera Bread. We are both becoming quite fond of their food, and especially their noodles.
This time I got the Whole Grain Tuscan Linguine with broccoli, red bell pepper, onion, mushrooms, garlic, white wine, cream and parmesean.
We arrived at the movie with just enough time to get inside the theater and settled into our seats before the start of the previews for Catching Fire.
Umm, have you guys seen this flick yet? Although I haven’t read any of the books (I know, I know… I need to get on that…) I absolutely loved the first movie and have only heard great things about the second. For being 146 minutes long, it sure flew by and had both Scott and I on the edge of our seats the entire time. During the end of the final scene we both looked at each other confused, then took turns saying “that’s it?”
I really wasn’t ready for the ending. I guess we will just have to wait for the third movie of the trilogy series to come out!
Saturday
I spent the morning and early afternoon at home getting chores done around the house. (<- Jealous?)
A little after 2 p.m. I needed to run some errands and found myself shopping all over the area. My first stop was at Petco. You know, “where the pets go.” 😉
I filled my cart (which later I found out wasn’t even one from the store… whoops) with wet food, treats, and other necessities like an obnoxiously bright cat box. It’s a long story, and I will probably share the reason we need two in the house if my plan is successful.
As I proceeded to the check out line, I couldn’t help but swoon over the fluffy dog coats a few aisles over. Aren’t they adorable?
It took everything in me not to get one for Roadie. Scott has a hard enough time dealing with the one I got him last year, but these look so much warmer. I might just have to go back and get one!
On my way out to the car, I noticed there was a Michaels right next door which is always trouble.
I went in with a few items on my mind (scented pine cones, holiday ribbon, tall candlesticks, etc.) and was proud of myself for staying on track!
Eventually I made it over to the grocery store which was the reason I left the house in the first place. See anything interesting in there? I can name at least two things that are slightly embarrassing.
We’ll just keep moving…
I hurried home to get in the shower and get ready for dinner with Scott and one of my teammates at a new to all of us place in Downtown Birmingham. The restaurant was an Italian one called Bella Piatti and everything was amazinggg.
I might just have to do a separate highlight of this one another time because if I didn’t you would be scrolling through ten or so more photos. (You’re welcome.)
I loved this area of town and can’t wait to explore it more!
We went back to our place after to watch Elf, which I later found out was Scott’s first time seeing it. I couldn’t believe it, mainly because I quote it all the time and he acts like he knows exactly what I’m talking about.
He might be a cotton headed ninny muggins.
Sunday
Sunday morning started later than anticipated. I guess the week caught up to me because I got up early, but allowed myself to drift back asleep for a few more hours and didn’t actually start anything productive until about 11 a.m. By then, I figured it was a perfect time to make “lunch”.
If you didn’t happen to catch this one via Instagram, on my plate was anything apple and cinnamony I could find:
– Van’s Gluten-Free Apple Cinnamon Waffles
– Chobani Non-fat Apple Cinnamon Greek Yogurt
– sliced apples and sprinkled cinnamon
Greek yogurt on any type of waffle never disappoints! I ended up working on the computer for the next hour or so and then went back upstairs to do laundry and get my game bag ready.
Our Pistons played the Miami Heat last night, and even though we didn’t score a win we did perform a Groovy 70’s themed halftime!
Yesterday kicked off another four games in seven days week for us. This week will be another busy one I’m sure!
After the game, Scott and I had plans to meet up with a few friends at another new-to-us place for dinner. This time it was right around the corner from us in Rochester, called The Hills Bar & Grille.
It was a neat and unique atmosphere. There were televisions decorating the walls, but the rest of the restaurant felt more on the fancier side. A fancy bar if you will.
Just like after most games, Scott came with a hungry appetite and we decided to treat ourselves. I started with a Peppermint Martini, which was actually a little too strong for my liking.
‘Tis the season, eh?
Chips and salsa followed as well as these delicious crab cakes.
By the time our entrees came, I was already getting full. I ordered a spicy chicken and shrimp dish with a side of asparagus and sweet potato fries which will always be a weakness of mine.
I am already looking forward to the leftovers!
Both the food and the company was great. I loved getting to catch up with Bri and her boyfriend Zack.
And just to throw out a fun fact I think most of you would find interesting to know, Bri is one of the few we trust to watch Roadie when we go out of town! He really is in love with her and freaks out every time she enters the house. They might be best friends.
Here’s mine!
(Singing karaoke into his steak knife, of course.)
Sorry ladies… he’s all mine.
<said in confidence with wide eyes and crunched eyebrows>
I hope to have made you smile at some point in this post today. Now go have a great start to your Monday! 😀
Question of the Day
• What is your favorite holiday movie?
Ever since I can remember, I have watched National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation with my family every Christmas Eve and can probably recite the entire thing. Growing up, I also loved A Charlie Brown Christmas, and of course Elf is now also a top contender!
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake
Looks like a fun weekend! The peppermint martini looks fantastic, even if it was too strong! 🙂
Heather
Hehe, it secretly was. 😉
Katie Elizabeth Gagliano
You had a jam packed weekend too! The peppermint drink looked so good, so festive too! You and Scott are too cute, love that you have fun together, how it should be!
Happy Monday girl! <3
Heather
Yes I did, but yes it was! I’m still dreaming about it, lol. Thanks friend, I love reading about your adorable little family too. Thanks for hosting another week of MIMM!
Erin @ The Almond Eater
I didn’t read the books either but I loved Catching Fire and I seriously wasn’t ready for the ending either! I was like ok probably 20 more mins or so and them it just ended…wahhhh. Already excited for the third one though. And I am a frequent diner at Noodles & Co..—so so so good! Their Med Salad is my favorite!
Heather
Haha, right? Like out of nowhere! Ohh I need to try that salad now. Thanks for the suggestion! 🙂
Miranda @ Lovely Wife Lovely Life
Looks like a great weekend! Love your costume… very groovy 😉 I have a little 16 pound mini schauzer/bischon frise dog who looks adorable in little doggy clothes but she HATES them. She literally slides around on the floor trying to get it off. Haha!
Heather
Thank you! Haha, she sounds adorable. Roadie would hate me dressing him up! He only tolerates the dog coat because it makes him warmer. 😉
cleaneatingveggiegirl
The flushable wipes?? Don’t worry, I buy those too! 😉
Heather
Haha, yes… once you try them you’ll never go back to not buying them! 😉
livingnbliss
Busy weekend! I love Noodles and Company and usually get the Whole Grain Tuscan Linguine myself. We don’t have one where we are currently living though, so it’s always a nice treat to have when we go back home. I agree about Catching Fire- I haven’t read any of the books either, and I’m usually not a fan of such long movies but the time did fly by and I enjoyed it. And the flushable wipes is the only thing I can see…my husband bought a gigantic box of them from Costco a few weeks ago, but walked away from the register so I’d have to pay, haha. My favorite Christmas movies are Christmas Vacation, Elf, and Home Alone 1 and 2!
Heather
I hadn’t tried the restaurant until moving up north just a year ago. Love it! Haha… I guess I should just throw it out there – tampons were the other item. Good guess!
Jess
Home Alone! All time favorite! That kid 😀
The theme dance must been great! it looks like a fun weekend!!
Heather
Oh man, how did I forget about Home Alone?! LOVED those when they came out. I still watch them if I catch any on television.
Andrea
I loved all the Hunger Games books and the movies so far! You should definitely read the books (I know I’m probably echoing everyone you know right now). Elf if a fabulous one, but my favorite holiday movie will always be White Christmas!
Heather
Haha, I know… I plan to, eventually. 😉 Hmm, I’ve never seen White Christmas before. I need to check it out!
Allison @ Life's a Bowl
Christmas Vacation is definitely my favorite holiday movie – I too have watched it every Christmas since I can remember… My husband and I saw it in the theater yesterday afternoon which was fun!
Heather
There are just so many good lines from it, I can’t get enough of it every single year! 😀
paigepodbelsek@FitNotFad
Holy wow I need that peppermint martini! Elf is fantastic movie…last year I learned my boyfriend had never seen A Christmas Story before! I bought it immediately and forced him to watch it. LOVE THG I teach all 3 books to my 8th graders! We just finished Catching Fire and I took a bunch of them to see the movie….it was a blast. FYI the 3rd movie will be in two parts 🙁
Heather
It’s my favorite these days. (Besides smiling, lol) That’s how I feel about Christmas Vacation, Scott hadn’t seen it until he met me! I thought he was from Mars. I can’t wait for the 3rd (and fourth) HG movie(s)! 😉
Tanya
1. Please read the books. Sooo good!
2. They are making the 3rd book into 2 movies so you have time 😉
3. Come to Chicago soon.
🙂
Heather
Ha, I will one day! Eventually… 😉 I can’t wait to see the 3rd (and fourth?) one! And yes please, believe me I am trying to make it happen!
Amber
I watched Elf for the first time last Christmas. My boyfriend thought it was essential that I see it, and he was right. Super cute!
Oh, those sweet potato fries! I’m on a huge SP kick right now. Have you tried SP kettle chips yet? They are to. die. for.
Hope you’re enjoying the scentsicles! Have a great week 🙂
Ashlee@HisnHers
Ahhhh I know! I’m so glad I read book 3 because I would’ve been so mad at that ending. I keep telling everyone “beware of the ending!”
Looks like a fun weekend and I love those adorable 70s outfits for the game!
