About a month ago, I got invited by Bonefish Grill to try out their new IN + ON Bar Bites Menu. I was given a $50 gift card to dine-in at their bar, and took full advantage of the opportunity for a night out last Tuesday!
IN the Shell: Lobster Street Tacos
I originally deemed it a date night with Scott, but he had a work event scheduled on the only night I could go. I offered the guest spot to my best friend, Alex, and was happy she could join!
As it turns out, Scott’s commitment got cancelled, so my reservation for two quickly turned into a party of three. We didn’t mind the extra company, and figured we would just have to order more off of the menu. Don’t you hate when that happens? (Um, never.)
The three of us walked up to the hostess stand right at 5 p.m. and were quickly seated by the bar in a booth. It had been ages since I visited a Bonefish Grill. I forgot how pretty the dining environment is!
This was my first visit since moving to Michigan, and I admired the fancy bar decorations and waterfall glass that separated us from the main dining room at the Troy location. Our waitress walked up to us right away, and she was very attentive throughout the entire meal. If you call three rounds of appetizers a meal, that is.
I didn’t really understand the IN + ON Bar Bites name until we got there. Everything from the food and dessert to specialty drinks is IN or ON something like a shell, glass, or bite.
Alex and I put in an order for the Lobster Street Tacos (pictured above, and absolutely wonderful) and Mac + Cheese Bites right away.
IN the Bite: Mac + Cheese Bites
Gosh, those were good. Have you guys ever tried Mac + Cheese bites?
I highly recommend them if you are even a slight fan of cheese. Especially here!
Scott ordered the Shrimp Pad Thai as his own entrée, and Alex and I sipped on glasses of Pinot Noir as we waited for the next round of appetizers to come.
We didn’t have to wait long, as everything arrived quickly. I barely had time to snap a photo before digging into the next one!
ON the Stack: Chipotle Shrimp Tostada
The tostada was definitely the messiest (it actually fell over right after I took this photo!), but it was also the tastiest. We all loved the combination of fresh avocado, mango, cucumber, red peppers, shrimp, and spicy sauce. Our waitress recommended getting the Ahi Tuna Tartare Tostada, but I just… can’t do raw tuna. I know, I might be alone there.
Also bypassing her request to get the Pulled BBQ Sliders, I went for the Chipotle Shrimp again (I realize I’m lame) and ordered the ON the Bun: Dim-Sum Style Sliders.
I loved this one! The Dim-Sum Style Slider Buns were so, so good. I totally could have eaten them on their own. The dish came in a bamboo steamer with layered sections of ingredients.
It was so fun to assemble our own slider buns.
This is the point of our dinner where we started to get full, but we weren’t quite finished yet. No meal is complete without dessert, right?
IN the Dough: Doughnuts
Just like our sliders, the dessert was also a do-it-yourself order. The doughnuts are perfect for people who don’t want to choose, and let you fill three warm cinnamon and sugar-tossed croissant-like doughnut holes with squeezable bottles of sea salt caramel and chocolate sauce.
In this case, it’s perfectly acceptable to play with your food. Sided with homemade whipped cream, I was in heaven. We got creative by using both bottles in each doughnut, and I could have easily eaten twenty more.
Our experience at Bonefish Grill was a very delightful one. The restaurant manager came over to introduce herself early on in the meal, and stopped by our table to chat a few times throughout our visit. The entire staff was very friendly!
The IN + ON Bar Bites menu is now available at all Bonefish Grill locations and starts with orders at $4. The Bar Bites are available for dine-in only during dinner hours seven days a week. Each dish perfectly pairs with the restaurant’s hand-crafted cocktails made with fresh juices and house-made infusions. Next time I will be sure to try one of those!
Thanks so much for having us, Bonefish Grill!
