Hi everyone! How are you?
I’m in a bit of a hurry to hit publish today, as we’re getting ready for a quick getaway in the Poconos this weekend. I’ll be back on Monday to share more details along with how we got the opportunity, and I’ll also be packing for a trip down to Texas for the week, too. There’s some travel on deck for our whole family, and I’m not mad about it!
For today, let’s stay local and talk about some things that I’ve been loving in New York. This Friday Favorites round up is all about recent to-dos in the City, and I feel like this could be a subject that repeats itself many times over.
There’s always something new to do and see here, ya know?
Here’s a few highlights from a recent family day out to Manhattan, along with a few things you should know about the weekend, too.
(And make sure to check out the giveaway that I’m currently hosting on Instagram, as it’s a GOOD one!)
Happy Friday!
FRIDAY FAVORITES: Latest City Scenes
- Rockets of Awesome
Skyler had a blast last weekend, and a big part of it had to do with popping into a pop-up store called Rockets of Awesome. There are a few locations around the City, and the one we stumbled upon is in Flatiron.
It’s a retail store that sells sizes 3T – 14, however the website looks like it sells size 2 as well. Our store started at 3, so we left with a birthday present for Skyler in the form of their signature bomber jacket in black that he will grow into.
There are several different colors to choose from (including metallic and neon!), and you can also purchase them online. They add a really cute touch of picking out up to five stick-it patches (more here), too. We added the cloud and the lightening bolt, and we took a few others for later, just in case they don’t last past a few washes.
The best part of the store is the activities for kids! There is a rainbow swing photo booth with sunglasses for props, and a ball pit full of marshmallows!
Don’t worry, they aren’t real. The marshmallow pit was a huge hit, and I talked to a few locals who come by the store regularly, just to play.
The staff was incredibly nice and inviting and didn’t pressure us to buy anything at all. We’ll definitely be back for more fun soon!
- The Wing – DUMBO
The Wing is a charming co-working space for women, and I had no idea that it existed until yesterday when I met up with a friend who has a membership.
It’s very members-only, as you have to get buzzed in to the entrance with security and checked in by the front desk. Since I was a guest, I signed a waiver and waited for my friend to meet me at the entrance to bring me in.
There are various spaces designated for different things, including quiet areas, conversation areas, board rooms, a recording studio, powder rooms with products, a private yoga studio, and more. You can enjoy coffee on tap and endless water throughout the day, and order from a mostly-healthy menu in the cafe. They also hold networking events and encourage members to interact and build a community.
It was a treat to spend a little less than two hours chatting with a friend of mine yesterday. The space has a calm and work-forward vibe, and I could see myself being very productive with future visits. I’m going to hold off on a membership for now, but I would love to enjoy access to a location in the future, maybe when Skyler goes to school!
- Thai Villa
I don’t include specific restaurants in these favorites round-ups often, so you know that it’s a really good one if I do. And I had several people comment and agree when I posted the photo of our lunch spread on my Instagram stories last week!
Thai Villa is a fantastic spot to enjoy Thai cuisine with a stylish, old-century atmosphere. My pictures definitely don’t do the atmosphere justice, and it felt like we walked into a different country all together, which is always something cool to experience in New York City.
We were long overdue for a lunch date catch-up with my lifelong friend, Lauren, who lives in Manhattan. I don’t see her nearly enough for living so close. She is a regular here, and I totally see why.
We ordered a variety of things from the lunch menu and everything was delicious and flavorful.
The service was exceptional, and they were extra accommodating by offering a stroller check and a booth, since highchairs weren’t available for Skyler. He did pretty well, and my favorite part was the company, of course.
If you’re ever near the Flatiron District, call and make a reservation to dine here. It gets two enthusiastic thumbs up from me!
- Bryant Park
I’ve included Bryant Park in a few posts on the blog before, but it never gets old. The park is located in the heart of Midtown, close to Times Square, and offers a breath of fresh air to the busy traffic around the crowded streets there.
We set out to catch the tail end of Kids Week last weekend, and just missed the festivities by an hour or so. It was still worth the trip, however, as there is always things to do that entertains our little family.
The Winter Market is still happening, and the carousel runs all year long. Next time you visit the Midtown area, take a quick stop through the park and you won’t be disappointed. There’s always different things going on throughout the year!
- Beautycounter retail store (and weekend-only promos for you!)
Okay friends, let’s talk about some serious deals going on right now with Beautycounter. I try not to share too much here on the blog since I have a separate newsletter that spills the promos and sales, but here’s a little inside scoop. And it totally fits in with the City-themed edition today, as one of my favorite things to do here is make a trop to Soho to visit the retail store!
First, the Clean Routine Event that I mentioned last week has been extended and will run until Sunday 2/29. If you’re curious about switching over to safer products and would like more details, message me!
Second, there is currently a huge perk happening for members. This one applies to new and existing members, and gets you 20% back in product credit for any purchase you make today and tomorrow. And if you’re looking to buy a regimen or collection, this is a considerable amount of money that would be returned to you!
If you’d like to chat more about better beauty and get started on your own journey of switching to safer, high-quality products, email beautycounter@lifeinleggings.com.
It would be my pleasure to help you!
