Good morning, and Happy Friday to you!
I have been pumped about this in particular morning for quite some time. As you’re reading this, Scott and I will most likely be in the air flying across the country. We’re excited to be spending a long weekend in sunny San Diego, California!
Per usual, I plan on checking in early next week with some highlights mixed in with the regularly scheduled Life In Leggings ramblings.
After the snowstorms (<- yes, plural) over the past few weeks at home in Michigan, it was difficult for me to pack more than strictly bathing suits. I’m so looking forward to soaking in some much needed Vitamin D, palm trees, and ocean views!
So yeah, I guess that’s pretty much my favorite thing right now. Just for fun, let’s check out what else I’ve been loving this week. As always, I invite you to share your Friday Favorites in the comments and link-up sections below!
Friday Favorites #131: Week of 3/4
• clear mascara
I can’t remember when I started this habit, but I’ve been wearing a clear coat of mascara under my regular mascara for years. Years and years. It works great as a primer and it just feels weird when I don’t reach for it before my black coat.
I don’t stick to a specific brand, but I buy the most often.
By the way, clear mascara is great for taming the brows, separating lower lashes, and even controlling random wispies around your hairline. It’s not always easy to locate, but you can usually find it in stores like Target, Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, and ULTA.
It’s one of my favorite beauty products/tricks to date!
• brownie brittle
Oh … my … goodness. I’m not sure if y’all are ready for this one.
Have any of you ever seen or tried Sheila G’s Brownie Brittle? It comes in five flavors that I’m sure are all dreamy.
Our friend, Adam, brought a huge bag of the chocolate chip flavor over last weekend and … well, let’s just say that only the crumbs remain.
It’s a mix between two of my very favorite things in the world: cookies and brownies. They’re extremely thin, crispy, and flavorful. They taste like the outer crust of a batch of brownies that was cooked just a little too long. (The best part, right?)
Do yourself a favor and pick up a bag if you ever spot it. Better yet, don’t, because they’re ridiculously addicting. 😉
• inspirational magnets
I’m a sucker for inspirational quotes. I have received all of the inspirational magnets you see below as gifts from friends over the past year or so, and I love having positive messages like these staring at me every time I walk over to the refrigerator.
If there’s anything I have learned over the last few years, it’s that life is what you make it. (I also shared a list of things I have learned over the past decade not too long ago.) I owe a big thank you to my friends and family that have gone above and beyond to show their love and support lately.
Thank you for the daily reminders and inspiration! <3
• poo-pourri
All right. File this one under things I’m not sure I should blog about … yet, here we are. I’m not going to say much about Poo-Pourri, but it was given to us as part of a Christmas gift and is seriously the best.
Curious as to what I’m talking about? Check out the promotional video. And their latest commercial/music video. (<- genius marketing right there.)
That is all.
• Tom + Chee
About a month ago, Scott and I passed this sign while driving in the Troy area, and he instantly pulled a U-turn into the shopping center to check it out.
Tom + Chee is a unique gourmet grilled cheese and tomato soup restaurant. (Get it? Tom and chee … I love it!)
Scott remembered seeing this fast casual spot featured on Shark Tank, and couldn’t believe that we were getting a location near us. People that know us well would tell you that one of our favorite foods is grilled cheese dipped in tomato soup.
Both Scott and I love it so much that we had mini grilled cheese triangles and tomato soup dippers served as an appetizer at our wedding reception. True story.
The restaurant opened recently, so naturally we had to check it out. It was so good! They had plenty of variations of grilled cheese sandwiches to choose from and three different kinds of tomato soup. They even have grilled cheese donuts! I couldn’t even make that up.
We each ordered a full sandwich and soup, and then quickly learned that a half of a sandwich would be plenty next time. Or, just the sandwich without the cup or bowl of soup upgrade. (Combos come with a tiny dipper dish size.)
The whole concept is awesome. We’re already big fans!

I’ve been DYING to go to a TOM+CHEE for forever but haven’t found one nearby. So jealous!! Also, the mascara reminds me of middle school – it’s what my mom bought me when she caught me sneaking on the real stuff as a kid!

Ahh Tom + Chee! My boyfriend is from Cincinnati, which is where it was originally started and we love Tom + Chee! I love that they have gluten free bread as well! And that you can get something traditional or get crazy! My boyfriend also loves the grilled cheese donuts, although I haven’t tried one I would highly recommend them when you are looking for a sweet indulgent treat!

We HAD a Tom + Chee but some owner disputes lead to it closing. I’m so sad. I loved their grilled cheese (the hippie chee was my fav) and the grilled cheese donuts were SO good! They always have a special of the day too that sounded good. Enjoy it!
Kristin @ The Donut Runner
Why don’t these magical grilled cheese places exist where I live?!
Have fun on your trip!

We have a Tom+Chee here in Lansing and it’s DELICIOUS! At first I thought the grilled cheese donut would be disgusting but it was amaze-balls! Not much tastes better than a bowl of warm soup and a crispy, melty grilled cheese on a cold winter day! Have fun in Cali…I’m not (that) jealous…

Omg that poo-pouri! I’ve always wondered about that after seeing the hilarious commercials. Good to know it actually works. San Diego sounds so nice right now…I miss California (and non-snowy weather!). I hope you’ll tell us where you ate/ what you did. I’m hoping to go to San Diego soon and would love some tips 🙂

I just discovered clear mascara about two months ago & wear it now on the days I don’t feel like putting regular mascara on! I also use it on my eyebrows when I don’t fill them in. It’s seriously the best!
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job
I use clear mascara to keep my eyebrows in place. I buy the one from Elf that they sell at Target and it’s only $2!

I used clear mascara all the time as a teenager – that picture was a throwback to me at 15!
Oh dang, soup and grilled cheese is by FAR one of my favourites. I’m super sad I don’t have a Tom and Chee near me (or, in Canada, I assume). ROADTRIP?
