Good morning, friends! Happy Friday!
This week sure was a doozie. While I can’t complain about starting it in California, it ended up being a true test to my immune system – or lack thereof, apparently. No worries though, the plague is officially on its way out!
I woke up this morning feeling about 75 percent better than I have over the last week, so it’s a beautiful thing. Here’s to a healthy, productive weekend!
After a busy month of travels, Scott and I have zero plans on the horizon. We have a to-do list around the house about a mile long, so we’ll be busy cleaning out closets and such. I sincerely hope you have a much more exciting couple of days than we will.
In true end-of-the-week fashion, we are talking Friday Favorites today. Below is what I have been loving this week, and I always invite you to join in and share what made you smile in the comments and link-up sections, too!
Friday Favorites #132: Week of 3/11
• S’well water bottles
Scott and I received matching S’well water bottles as Christmas gifts from his mother this year. I remember hearing about them from somewhere and couldn’t wait to give them a try.
S’well has a mission to rid the world of plastic water bottles, and they keep drinks cold for 24 hours and hot for 12. Bottles are non-toxic, sold in 35 countries around the world, and the company partners with charitable organizations like UNICEF to help provide clean drinking water to those in need.
I haven’t personally tested out the hot beverage claim yet (I like sipping out of to-go mugs way too much), but they’ve easily become my favorite water bottles to grab on-the-go!
• strawberry shortcakes
I remember begging my mom to get these mini sponge cakes that always seemed to make their way into the produce section. Whoever thought of placing them by the strawberries deserves two gold stars … because that works.
Scott insisted that we bring a package along with heavy whipping cream home from the grocery store last night. He also took advantage of the berries that were on sale for $0.99 at Fresh Thyme! (<- what?) Sponge cake, berries, whipped cream … yum! What’s not to love?
• Flexi pet leash
We have a new local pet store that opened near us, and I was happy to see Scott bring home a new retractable leash for Roadie last week. (We have had him for over five years now and haven’t replaced his leash once!)
As it turns out, I love it. The brand is Flexi, and it looks like you can find them at major pet store chains like PetsMart and Petco.
This one came with accessory choices, and I love the click-on multi box attachment to store treats or waste bags.
• Famous Dave’s cornbread mix
Scott brought a box of Famous Dave’s Corn Bread Mix home for us to make a few months ago, and oh my goodness … yes. It was so good. Like, maybe the best cornbread ever.
We can’t help but to keep buying it for nights where we aren’t sure what we are going to cook for dinner, and the cornbread helps us quickly decide on chili or barbecue.
(Here’s a lightened-up copy cat recipe, in case you’d like to make it on your own.)
• fresh air
I couldn’t believe how warm the temperatures got in Michigan while we were away in San Diego. There was a point where it was actually warmer here because of the humidity, yet lack of rain! With two full days of rain, wind, and less-than-awesome weather in California, it was nice to come home to an open door at the gym on Wednesday.
Any day where I can get fresh air while I’m working is a good day. It almost feels like Spring is approaching. Almost. Let’s just hope the snow stays far, far away and that we are in the home stretch of closing out this cold winter!
• Post Baby Body!
My blogging buddy, Gina, released a 12-week Post Baby Bod fitness program this week! I got the opportunity to download the e-book yesterday, and I have already thumbed through the series of workout plans.
It looks like a smart, fun way to get back into shape after having a little one. I know I will be searching everything I should and shouldn’t be doing high and low … and I may not have the time or patience to with a newborn.
It’s nice to see a heap of great information in one place, and I highly recommend it to new or expectant mamas looking to safely dive back into fitness post baby. Check out the website (it’s a wonderful pre- and postpartum fitness and health resource) and 12-week plan that is super easy-to-follow. I also love that all of the workouts can be done at home with dumbbells or on a walk with a stroller and diaper bag in tow.
I’m sure I will be turning to it when the time comes!

Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday
I hope you get to feeling even better this weekend! Colds are no fun. I’ve been enjoying fresh air (loving this crazy-warm Midwestern March) and fresh berries because they were on sale. I should totally try your idea and add them to some cake and whipped cream, though 🙂 Have a lovely weekend, Heather!

Thank you! I wish I could take credit for the shortcake idea, lol. That was all Scott 😉 I did, however, buy those on a weekly basis back in college! Whoops.
Susie @ SuzLyfe
Feel better! That is an order! Those strawberry shortcakes remind me of home! That is exactly what we would have for my dad’s birthday every year 😀 Have a recovered weekend, Heather!

Haha! I would be lying if I said I haven’t done that before. So great!
Taylor
I second the fresh air! It was by far my favorite thing this week. Opening the windows at home for a bit and airing out the house felt wonderful! Hopefully there’s more of it to come. Have a wonderful weekend!
Heather
Yes, PLEASE!! Have a great weekend Taylor!
Morgan @ Morgan Manages Mommyhood
Oh, the fresh air has been SO nice! It’s been 60-70 here in NJ most of the week, so I’ve been spending our days with teh windows wide open – so nice to air out the house!

Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food
Strawberry shortcake sounds perfect right now! The weather here has been warm and sunny ALL week and it’s put me in the best mood. Just being able to open the windows makes me feel like a brand new person after winter.

I keep seeing posts about those Swell water bottles everywhere. I love the idea and the designs they have! Now I think I’m going to have to get some for every Easter baskets this year.
alexandra @ my urban family
Happy Friday! That strawberry shortcake looks so delicious! And I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better – being sick is no good, but it always feels extra sad when it’s over the weekend.

Beth @ Sublimely Fit
Glad you’re feeling better! My hubby and I both got sick this week–there must be something going around. It’s starting to feel like spring here, too, and I’m getting so excited. I hope you have a fun time cleaning closets, or at least enjoy the feeling of accomplishment you’ll have after getting a ton of stuff done this weekend.

Oh man, berries & shortcake // angel food cake is one of my favorite summertime desserts.
My FitBit died a while back & for the first week I was pretty much losing my shit. Like, do workouts & walking even count if you don’t have a FitBit to count your steps & compete against your friends? I think not. I’m over it now, but I definitely think I move around less since I don’t have those #s staring me in the face. Perhaps a new one should be on my birthday list.
Jen @ pretty little grub
I love swell water bottles. They keep coming out with new colours and designs making me want more! I don’t drink hot out of them either but I did go snowshoeing with some girls and hours later in the cold, their tea was so hot they had to add snow to cool it down to drink.
Annette@FitnessPerks
Angel food cake with berries is bomb! Yummm!
That fitbit thing is hilarious & so true! I’ve totally walked downstairs a few times just so I could hit my goal and/or beat my sista. LOL

Ashley @ A Lady Goes West
I would say that every-other-time I go on a cross-country flight, I get a little bug afterwards. Too bad! I hope you feel all the way better soon. As far as Scott and his ideas for your fun eats — well I’m all for it. hahah I can’t eat cornbread without laughing. Too many movie references? Anyways, LOVE those water bottles. So cool. Have a great weekend, friend!

Yikes, that’s not fun at all. Luckily, I usually dodge the flight sicknesses. I guess that’s not the case this time around! Why don’t I know about these movie references? lol
Maria @ Sweet Clementine
Fresh air was definitely a favorite this week especially because here in Minnesota we had 67 degree weather! I cant wait for Spring weather to get here.
Heather
C’monnn spring weather!
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job
