Good morning, and a big Happy Friday to you!
I am really looking forward to this weekend. It’s my last couple of days to finish some projects around the house, and I’m taking the initiative to dedicate a lot of my Saturday to seek out necessities like a primary care physician, dentist, veterinarian, and hairdresser. (Park Slope/Brooklyn/NYC residents, any recommendations?)
It’s only been five months since we moved … whoops!
Getting right to business, let’s move on to this week’s edition of Friday Favorites. As always, I invite you to share some things you have been loving at the bottom by utilizing the comments and link-up sections below!
Friday Favorites #156: Week of 8/26
• MAST Brothers chocolate
I was invited to attend a private (and delicious) behind-the-scenes tour of the MAST Brothers chocolate factory this week! I shared a sneak peek of the event on LIL Snapchat and Instagram stories, and I’ll be back with a full post about the ins and outs of what goes into making these beautiful bars soon.
I was gifted a mini variety set, and I honestly don’t know how two of the bars are still in the refrigerator. (<- Um, do you do this? I love eating my chocolate cold!) The flavors are wonderful, and I learned that all of them are only made with six ingredients. I’m a big fan!
• restorative yoga
There is something to be said about yoga classes that aren’t all about sweating or powering through a series of movements. Lately, I’ve been slowing down my yoga practice and taking classes that are geared towards stretching and slow flow Vinyasas.
I met my friend, Ashley, for a 70 minute Basics class at Area Yoga last night, and it was just what we both needed.
It wasn’t the most challenging yoga class, but I left feeling calm, de-stressed, and stretched. We also spent a good amount of the class easing into inversions on the wall, and I finally held a headstand! #proudmoment #namaste
• girls’ night at OTTO
My friend, Michelle, organized a girls’ night in the City this week!
She’s someone that I’ve known since our Orlando days, so it’s been fun to reconnect while living in New York City and spend time with her and her friends. (Erin, my former teammate from the Orlando Magic, was there, too. Gotta love our big Magic family!)
I had the pleasure of dining and chatting with this great group of gals at a fantastic Italian restaurant called OTTO Enoteca Pizzeria on the corner of 5th Avenue and 8th Street in Greenwich Village.
OTTO is perfect for a nice meal with friends, a date or family night out, or a large social gathering. There were plenty of wine samples to go around, and the group of us enjoyed a variety of plates that included pizzas, pastas, and salads. It all looked so good!
Coming in with a raging appetite, I ordered the Fusilli Con Sausage & Escarole (pasta with sweet Italian sausage) and a glass of rosé. We were all too full for dessert, so I’ll just have to return to share the verdict there. *twists own arm*
There is an OTTO located in Vegas, too! If you’re ever in the area (here or there), I highly recommend it.
• HomeGoods accessories
I went a little crazy at HomeGoods last week.
I would love to include links to the items I bought, but for whatever reason, HomeGoods doesn’t offer them. (I guess they’re not into online sales?) Regardless, I have a bit of a love affair going as I slowly piece our apartment together, and it’s probably a good thing that I don’t have a car to bring the entire store home with me.
After we got a new couch for the living room last month (loving this model we snagged on sale from AllModern), I got the itch to finish it off with a variety of throw pillows and home accents. I can’t tell you how many hours I spent pinning inspirational photos and potential color schemes to lead me towards the calm and comfortable feel I attempted to create in our apartment.
I still have some work to do (the photo frames aren’t filled with our photos yet, and the walls are empty), but I had to share some of the stand-out pieces. Since our old-school heater is placed behind the couch, Scott had a great idea to order a console table to fill in some of the space behind it. It’s been great for extra storage and houses random boxes and things we need, but don’t need out.
I’ve been a fan of the Nicole Miller line for years, and I was so happy to see some amazing pieces at our local HomeGoods (picture frame and genie lamp).
I’ve really been into geometrics and metals lately, and I still have the tags on some of the things that I brought home, just in case.
The grey and white blanket is Cynthia Rowley (love), and all of the throw pillows are Calvin Klein.
There are a handful of things that I bought and didn’t capture in these photos, but I think I’ll wait and share the room in its entirety when it’s done!
Needless to say, HomeGoods and I became good friends last weekend. I took two trains across Brooklyn to get there and two Uber rides home, but it was all worth it. I’m loving how our space is turning out!
• I got a job!
Welp, I guess it’s time to finally share the news with you guys.
Do you remember when I mentioned that I had been going through a pretty intense interview process with one company? Six in-person and video interviews later, I got a job offer, and I officially accepted it last Thursday!
I’d like to share more about transitioning back into working full-time (<- probably an understatement) soon, but for now, I can tell you that I am absolutely thrilled to take on the Studio Manager position at an Orangetheory Fitness studio that is opening right here in Brooklyn, New York!
Some of you might remember me casually mentioning a visit to the studio and trying the workout for the first time about two months ago. I had every intention of posting more about my experience, but I wanted to wait and see how the interview process went first.
If I ended up getting the job, I knew that I would have plenty of OTF-related content down the road, and I’m excited to share more about the workout as well as my journey in leading a team to open a brand-new studio (!!!) with you.
I’ve been popping in for meetings throughout the week, but my first official day on the job is Monday. Here we gooo!

I’ve always wanted to tour a chocolate factory!! Although I have a feeling that for me those free samples wouldn’t last nearly as long in the fridge (yes, I do this too, cold chocolate > warm chocolate any day!) Congrats on the new job! I’ve wanted to try OrangeTheory Fitness since hearing about it but unfortunately there isn’t one by me!
Heather
I really think the only reason that I still have them is because I ate SO much chocolate throughout the tour! I’m sure they will be gone by tonight, though. Here’s hoping you can try a OTF near you soon!
Ginger Wroot
I always smile when I read and see your posts! Have a lovely weekend–fall is just around the corner! –Ginger

Ashleigh
New reader here! A friend of mine tipped me off that you live in Park Slope and will be working at the new Orangetheory studio. Welcome to the ‘hood and congrats on your new job! I can’t wait to start my trial during the grand opening!
I have a hairdresser recommendation for you. Hairstories on 9th street just opened this year. I’ve tried numerous places in Manhattan and Brooklyn, and this has absolutely been my best experience. The price is right, they sell their own line of products (they are fantastic), and I love that you can book appointments online. Daniella is amazing! Not only does she give a flawless haircut, she also walks you through styling and how to recreate the look at home.
Hope helps and I look forward to reading more of your blog!
Ashleigh
Heather
Hi Ashleigh! Yay, I’m happy you found my blog! Thank you for the warm welcome and suggestion. I was actually going to check Hairstories out because I walk by it every day and have only heard great things about the salon and service. I have an appointment next Saturday with Daniella, so I’ll have to tell her you referred me over. It’s so good to know that you will be at OTF, too! We’ll have to connect and get you set up for the free 1-week trial!
Have a great weekend 🙂
Kristy / Seven Graces
Oh my goodness, my sister lives not even a block away from that pizza place! I’ll have to make sure to go there the next time I visit. Such a small world NYC is. 😉 Have a great weekend!
Heather
Yes, you should! I didn’t get to try the pizza – but it looked and smelled delish. I will be back for sure!
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment
