Hi and hello everybody, it’s Friday… woot!
I am sorry for not posting this a tad earlier this morning. I got the urge to clean the house around 6:30 p.m. last night and didn’t stop until right before midnight. I can’t really tell you why I picked a Thursday night to do Saturday morning chores, but I can say that waking up to a spotless house is fantastic.
Needless to say, I went to bed quite tired and woke up a little later than expected as a result. Eh, what’cha gonna do.
Now onto this week’s Friday Favorites! Ready? Go.
Friday Favorites #20: Week of 1/17
• velvet hair ties
If you happened to catch my Holiday Gift Guide: Stocking Stuffers list this year, you might have noticed that I have a thing for cute hair ties. I think it all began when I started dancing in the NBA, since we are encouraged to wear our hair down at practices to get used to using it in choreography. Yup, that’s a real thing. Hair-ography if you will.
Anyways, I come prepared to put it up if I get too hot or bothered by it and always have a hair tie on my wrist. After years of doing this, I got sick of the standard black and brown ties. So, whenever I see a cuter version of hair elastics I have to give them a try.
I picked this set of ELLE velvet elastics up (on sale!) at ULTA the other day and love the way the fabric feels on my wrist and in my hair.
• the return of overnight oats
I really can’t get enough of them lately. In fact, I even got a friend and Scott on board with trying new variations this week.
Typically, I eyeball Julie’s recipe with some kind of flavored Greek yogurt, almond milk, raw oats and chia seeds, but feel free to get creative by using any type of chocolate (regular or almond) milk too! My favorite combination with the chocolate is banana, raspberry, or strawberry banana.
• sudoku toilet paper roll
Scott and I received this in the mail as part of a Christmas present. I think it’s hilarious, and riiight up Scott’s alley.
That’s all I’m saying!
• bare Minerals foundation
I have been using Bare Escentuals as my primary foundation and powder for years, but rarely talk about it. When I don’t need anything heavy (and by heavy I mean foundation for a game, a night out, or an appearance) I prefer the lighter every day coat of bare Minerals makeup.
I find it to be heavy enough to cover but light enough to look natural. Also, I like to switch between buying the Original and Matte versions every now and then. If you aren’t sure what shade is yours, you can purchase it in stores and get matched up in ULTA. Check out my 5-Minute Makeup Tutorial for more of my every day wear.
• Glee Cast Radio
Sorry I’m not sorry for rocking out to this Pandora station almost all day/every day this week.
Whether I’m at the computer, getting ready, or cleaning up the house I can’t help but to sing along with almost every song that comes on it. A definite mood lightener!
• this little reminder from Florence + The Machine
While jamming out, I came across this song I have always loved. This time, however, the meaning of it finally hit. Have you ever really listened to the lyrics? What amazing encouragement to get over silly stresses we bring upon ourselves, bury whatever issues you are dealing with, and move on to live in the moment!
The craziest part of it all is I posted this on the HWG Facebook Page just a few hours earlier.
Along with this photo that makes me smile in so many ways.
Do yourself a favor today and take a step back for a moment. Think of something that has been mentally holding you back and just Shake It Out!
• toe warmers
While visiting, my mother brought these adhesive toe warmers up with her. Classic Floridian move, right?
I appreciated it! Simply unwrap and unstick the strip and it starts to automatically heat up. I didn’t like wearing them on the balls of my feet but loved the extra warmth when I moved them to the top of my foot in my snow booties! *Note: If you try them, don’t ever put the adhesives directly against your skin. Make sure there is always at least one sock layer in between your foot and the strip.
You can purchase them at any sporting goods store like Sport’s Authority or DICK’s. Perfect for a day of walking around or playing in the snow!
• chevron
It only takes a quick glance at my wardrobe and Pinterest boards to find out I also have a thing for chevron prints. I saw this background on my friend Amanda’s phone this week and thought it was so sweet of her to send it to me.
It is the current wallpaper on my phone and thought you might like it as well! (Right click on the image above and click Save Image to get it!)
• snowy sunrises
And to finish with the snowy theme I seem to be highlighting, I felt such a sense of serenity when looking out my windows this morning. I like to get up early on Fridays (mostly to share my favorites with you!) and always enjoy a few minutes of quiet time while drinking my coffee by the window.
I just so happened to catch the sunrise today and it put me in the best mood!
Now It’s Your Turn

Have a great start to your weekend! 😀

I absolutely love bare minerals products! It is so light that you can barely tell I have makeup on, but it still evens out skin tone and covers as needed! I know use the foundation, blush and concealer from bare minerals and love it all!
I love the chevron phone background! Definitely setting it as the background for my phone right now!!
🙂
oh my gosh.. sudoku toilet paper that is TOO funny girl
I love that picture of you and your dog! SO, so sweet <3 cute outfit by the way! Also, I am so obsessed with chevron!
Bahaha that Sudoku toilet paper is HILARIOUS!
I am glad to know that I am not the only person eating overnight oats in the middle of winter! 😉
Haha, you are definitely not alone! Hey, I’m still enjoying smoothies! 😉
Overnight oats are one of my favorite breakfasts!!!
Sometimes it is great to take a little time and de-stress yourself from the little things that hold you back, and enjoy the ones that make you happy. Like watching the beautiful snowy landscape on a Friday morning!
Exactly. Have a great weekend Jess!
I have used Bare Minerals for about 5 years and I love it! I recently switched over to the Maybelline brand Mineral Powder which is basically the exact same thing but $9 instead of $29, and I love it even more! It seems to blend better with my skin, but I do think Bm has better staying power. I originally got it as an extra to carry in my school bag!
Oh, I might have to check out that Maybelline version! Thanks for the tip!
I’ve been eating overnight oats, too! Kinda go through phases with it. Bare Minerals is my go-to for makeup. I love how a little goes a long way with it. Have a great weekend!
I do too. Right now happens to be an “on” phase! Have a great weekend too!
