Hello, Friday! Before we get started on the favorites, let me open by letting you all in on a little giggle.
Did any of you notice anything weird about the title of last week’s link up? Apparently it goes 35, 36, 37, 34… just in case you weren’t aware.
I only noticed my numbering mess-up when I went to see what this week’s post title should be. I went back to change it, but instead I think I’m just going to leave it as is… better to keep as a laugh down the road, right?
Now onto the faves. As always, I invite you all to play along and share yours in the comments section, and while you’re at it link up your own!
Friday Favorites #39: Week of 5/30
• apple cider
I guess I jumped the gun on assuming that fresh apple cider is something you can only find in the fall.
Over the weekend, Scott and I drove past Yates Cider Mill and turned in as soon as we saw the small crowd and “we have ice cream” sign. As it turns out, this cider mill stays open through the summer to serve their famous doughnuts, ice cream and apple cider.
Clearly, we needed to leave with a half gallon of it. I have even been enjoying it cold this week!
• Michigan grass
Growing up in Florida, I remember traveling up to Michigan to see my grandmother over the summers and thinking the grass was so, so different.
Florida grass is very thick, dark, and straw-like, while Michigan grass is very soft and bright.
Now that it’s finally sunny and warm enough to enjoy time outside, Roadie and I can’t get enough if it!
• Netflix
Scott and I had a subscription to Netflix years ago, but cancelled the membership way before we moved. Neither of us thought we would miss it until we had a couple of friends over and used their membership to watch a movie.
When the movie was over, we spent some time browsing through titles and picked out at least ten films and documentaries we wanted to see.
It only took a few days before we both wanted our subscription back, so… inevitably it happened and we are hooked!
Within the first two nights, we found two different documentaries we have been hunting to record and love the ability to get right into a new television series without commercials or breaks. (Whoops.)
• Olivia Pope (Scandal)
Speaking of Netflix and new series we’ve gotten into… um, do any of you watch Scandal?
I have heard people (including bloggers!) talk about it with a lot of enthusiasm, but never really gave it a chance. Just to see what all the fuss was about, we watched the pilot to the first season and became hooked within ten minutes!
We really can’t stop watching it. There’s so much going on throughout each episode and it’s one of the first series where I can’t even begin to guess what’s coming next.
Not to mention, Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) is also a total bad a**.
Some of the things that come out of her mouth blow my mind. I kind of want to move to D.C. and be her when I grow up. The writing is incredible, and I bet it will only take us a few weeks to catch up on all three seasons!
• session discussions
You guys. I am blown away by the emails and responses I have been getting from session discussions over the past few weeks!
When I decided to post about the topics discussed at a women’s retreat put on by my church, I wasn’t quite sure how they would be received. As soon as I published the first one, I knew I made the right decision and have only gotten positive feedback about the series.
There is one more in the works, but hearing you all relating and passionately talking about them makes me want to keep going with it through future coffee talks.
Session Discussions:
• Session 3: Embracing the Role You Never Wanted
• Session 2: The Comparison Game + Embracing Your Role As a Friend
• Session 1: Embracing the Here and Now
Thank you for being open to something new on the blog front!
• Keith Urban
I have been drawn to his music this week.
Back in my early high school years, Kieth was the only country artist I really liked, and it was probably because of his cool surfer hair and Aussie accent. You know… the days before I actually liked the genre of music.
You can listen to all of his albums online! Here is his latest, but my favorite has been his Greatest Hits. Enjoy!
• cucumber water
I am such a sucker for fruit infused water. As much as I love berries and citrus in my H2O, there’s just something about cucumber water that takes the front seat for me.
Cut up a few slices of a cucumber, throw ’em in a glass, and I have a feeling you’ll be refilling it several times throughout the day. I sure do!
• wallflowers
We have about six wallflowers from Bath & Body Works floating about our home. Overall, it always smells decent, but over the past month or so I have noticed the scents more than ever.
First we tried Mahogany Teakwood which smelled amazing, but almost too much like Abercrombie (you know… that overwhelming whiff of man you get when you walk by the store) when we had several of them plugged in.
When we mentioned this to an associate at the store, they suggested the new Ocean Driftwood summer scent that is really similar, but less intense.
Occasionally, I’ll find myself smiling when I come downstairs and realize the aromas surrounding me are affecting my mood in the best way.
Helloooo, Summer!
• new hair today!
I have been waiting for the hair appointment I have later this afternoon for a long, long time.
I have been dying my hair since the eighth grade and can’t even tell you what my natural hair color is as the result. Since I started dancing in the NBA in 2007, I have changed my hair color according to what the team suggested or was looking for at the time (blonde, brunette, red head, etc.) and have I’ve been almost every shade in the dark brown to platinum blonde book.
Today, I am finally deciding what to do on my own, and my end goal is to rock something close to my natural color… whatever that is.
Here’s what I’m thinking!
I snapped the left two photos from my phone while watching an episode of Friends several months ago. I know… I want “Rachel Green hair”. Shocker.
But really, Jennifer Aniston always has the best hair, and the picture on the far left is probably the closest to what I think I want to go for.
I love the mixed in ombre Jessica Biel has going on (far right), and also the side bang (of once again Rachel Green) from the last season, but I always dream big with side bangs. I love the idea, but am always too chicken to actually get them!
I’ve sent these photos to my hairstylist and am excited to see what the final result looks like. My biggest thing is that I want it to be as low maintenance as possible! Thoughts?
Your Turn
Have a great weekend!

I honestly don’t know what I would do without Netflix! Obsessed is an understatement. Billy and I started watching Scandal but it was around exam time and so we weren’t really able to give it all it deserved and decided to stop for the time being. It was SO good though and we need to start it again! Anddddd. I can’t wait to see your hair! Happy Friday:)
Heather
I have a feeling you guys would love it 🙂 can’t wait for tomorrow!
Kelly @ Kelly Runs for Food
Welcome to the life-suck that is Scandal! I’m pretty sure I marathoned the whole show in less than a week haha. Can’t wait to see the new hair!
Heather
Ha, life-suck sounds about right! I’m already thinking about when we can have another multiple episode watching night…
Runner Girl Eats
Ugh I fell into Scandal real hard. So addicting! I am in the middle of choosing a hair inspiration right now and am loving the Brooklyn Decker/Kaley Cucuo mid length styles. Also going back to my natural hair color (dirty blonde). After dying/highlighting my hair for over 15years…I’m ready to go natural…and so is my overstressed hair!
Heather
Hey, I feel ya sister! No wonder it’s at a growing standstill. Years and years of bleach, straighteners, and curling irons have totally ruined it. I’m looking forward to going back to my roots! 😉
Chrissy @Pink Polish and Running Shoes
Netflix is the best! I actually don’t have my own account. I use my sister’s because I know her password…oops….. but she doesn’t mind. That’s what sisters are for right? I can’t wait to see your new hair. I had side bangs once and I loved the way they looked, but they drove me nuts because they were always falling in my face. I ended up pinning them back and growing them out. That’s just me though. Also, love the hair colors you chose. Anything involving Jennifer Anniston is always a good choice 🙂
Heather
I love the idea of them, but have a feeling I would get so annoyed with them. Especially with workout out!
Jaclyn @ Bumpsweat
We did the same subscribe-cancel-subscribe thing with Netflix. I’m so glad we have it back, because while I keep up with Scandal when each episode comes out, I need to go back and re-watch some of this past episodes. That show’s incredible!! I hate having to wait another 6 months for the new season to start.
Heather
I’m already dreading the day I get caught up on everything and have nothing to view until it comes back live! (That will probably happen next week.)
Janelle
I share a Netflix account with my parents (thanks, mom & dad!) and have been marathoning Royal Pains, a USA network show. It’s pretty good. I started watching Scandal, but I couldn’t get into it (I think I’m the only one!). What were the documentaries that you mentioned? Just curious…It’s so funny that you took a picture of Jennifer Aniston’s hair – there’s a particular red shade that I love in season 3 (the one where no one’s ready). I never thought to take a picture of my TV screen. I’ve been trying to grow my hair out for about six months, and I’m debating cutting it again – though it hasn’t reached the length I wanted yet. Do I give up on it or keep at it? Good luck with your hair! I’m sure it’ll be beautiful.
Alisha's Appetite
Ooooh yes, I can totally see you with that type of hair color. My mom is hair stylist so growing up I had my hair every color in the book. I swear it was about every other week I would want something different. Those were the days. Happy Friday!
Heather
Ha, I’d probably be the same way if I had a hairstylist in the fam!
Jess
Netflix is the best investment! Whenever I’m bored I go through one section and voila 😛 Scandal. every time open Netflix I see it, but I haven’t watched it yet… I guess it’s a must see!! I’m behind your session discussions, and I can’t wait to read them, seriously!!! Have a nice weekend!
Heather
Yes, you do! Glad you are enjoying the sessions. Have a wonderful weekend!
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries
Mmmm maybe spike that apple cider with a lil somethin’ and make it even better? 😉 I was just recently introduced to Angry Orchards spiked cider and it’s one of my new favorite drinks.
We are big Netflix lovers over here too! Their movie selection is nothing special, but we enjoy their TV series and some documentaries. I need to check out Scandal. Right now we’re in the middle of How I Met Your Mother, but we need something after that!
I always love a new and refreshed hair look! I think going close to natural with maybe a few highlights/low lights is always a good look. Jennifer Anniston’s hair is always timeless and beautiful.
Heather
Hard cider might my favorite thing in the world. (Earmuffs, Scott and Roadie.)(And kitties.) As much as I love my wine on the weekends, sometimes cider is all I’m interested in. It’s SO great and is totally my trick when everyone else is going for beer. 😉
Anyways, yay for Netflix! Happy Friday!
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie
OMG Scandal!! I can’t even tell you how obsessed I am!! Enjoy watching it! I’m going crazy while it’s on summer hiatus.
Heather
I don’t want it to enddd! In so glad I found it!
cleaneatingveggiegirl
Apple cider is definitely one of my favorite drinks and I LOVE Keith! He is amaaaazing in concert!
Heather
Ahhhh! I would love to see him in concert. With a cider in hand. 😉
Her Happy Balance
There is this little hole in the wall farm market by me that used to sell glasses of apple cider in the store for 10 cents, and it was on the honor system…just put your dime in a little box! I think the price is now 50 cents but I’m pretty sure they still sell it 🙂
Heather
What??? That sounds incredible and way better than any old lemonade stand! Great idea!
Jen
My boyfriend and I watched all three seasons of Scandal in three weeks on Netflix. It’s THAT good!
Diana
