Hello and a very Happy Friday to you!
I am heading into the gym early to teach a 7 a.m. class today, but will be returning home well before lunch. I have just enough time to grab some bedding and pack for a couple days before leaving for Up North! I am joining a great group of friends at our women’s church retreat, and I am so happy today has finally arrived. We had such a blast last year!
I’ll be sure to fill you in on how our weekend at “summer camp” went when I return. In the mean time, I’ll be crossing my fingers for anything but cold and rainy weather.
Let’s finish the week off with a bang and celebrate some highlights with Friday Favorites! I encourage you to share some of your favorites from the week in the comments, and if you are a blogger, make sure to look for the blue Inlinkz button at the bottom and link up your own #FFavorites posts, too!
Friday Favorites #89: Week of 5/15
• umbrella ring holder
I love this little gold umbrella ring holder I received from friends as a birthday gift last month. Isn’t it charming?
I’d say it’s a nice upgrade from using the top of our cotton ball holder. You can find it at Francesca’s or online by clicking the link above.
• C9 running gear
While we’re on birthday gifts, I received a very thoughtful one from my friend Nichole after our race last weekend. Somehow, she knew I was itching for some running shirts and shorts for the summer, and picked out an adorable set from the Champion C9 line at Target. (<- love it all!)
Champion C9 Tech Tee &
She topped it off a matching light zip-up that has been perfect for the cooler mornings and evenings we’ve been having. Also, thumbholes. <3
Danskin Full Zip Jacket
I’m packing all three pieces on my camping trip this weekend, and I’m hoping to sneak in a run around the campgrounds. I just love the lime and grey combo!
• charcoal face mask
I feel like I have shared this face mask on the blog before, but if I did, it was ages ago. New readers deserve to know my love for the .
I don’t use face masks nearly as often as I used to, and I couldn’t tell you why. After letting that bad boy sit for about fifteen minutes or so, I washed it off, and my skin felt as soft as it did after a professional facial. This one is formulated to minimize pores, and it’s one of my all-time favorites I continuously replace.
• massages
I didn’t get a massage this week, but I did last week. In fact, thanks to my membership to Massage Envy, I now schedule regular monthly appointments to recoup my muscles and help keep the kinks under control.
Massages are much more than an hour of relaxation time for me. While that’s a perk, it’s important to work out stubborn knots and tension that naturally builds up from any type of work (active or sedentary). I hate to admit it, but I have horrible posture. I understand the importance of sitting and standing up straight, but I always catch myself slouching down on the computer for what can be hours at a time. Yikes!
Over the last six months or so, I have been adamant about scheduling regular massages. I notice a big difference in the overall tightness and soreness of my muscles, and have seen a dramatic decrease in the amount of headaches I get on a day-to-day basis. I make sure to drink plenty of water after my sessions, and since I’ve been more regular with my visits, I feel so much better. It’s definitely worth looking into getting a membership if you’re someone with similar issues!
• bar-b-que
Scott and I both got a craving for some good ‘ol Southern barbecue a couple nights ago. We wanted to try somewhere we hadn’t been before, so all signs pointed to Famous Dave’s for a mid-week dinner out.
It was our first time into the restaurant and we are already hooked. I ordered the pulled chicken dinner with beans and sweet corn, and Scott got the pork with macaroni and cheese and grilled pineapple steaks. The meat was delicious, but the sides were worth coming back for on their own. Everything was wonderful. We’ll be back for sure!
• movie theater recliners
Have you ever seen a movie at a movie theater while reclining?
I noticed there were big comfy seats as soon as we walked into a theater Wednesday night, but I had no idea the chairs actually reclined until we sat down. How cool is that?
We went to see Furious 7 at the AMC in Madison Heights. Do all newer AMC theaters have these seats? After that filling bar-b-que dinner, that seat was everything. We will be making the drive over to this theater from here on out!
Oh, and the movie was awesome, too. (RIP Paul Walker.) *tear*
• KINDness Safari
I was invited to attend a safari at the Detroit Zoological Society this Saturday, May 16th. Sadly, I won’t be able to attend (as I will be Up North), but Scott is still planning to go and enjoy the experience with some friends.
KIND has started a movement to make the world a kinder place, and I loved the sound of their KINDness safaris taking place at zoos across the country tomorrow!
It sounds like fun family-friendly event (catered to children), and includes a scavenger hunt booklet that features interactive kindness activities inspired by animals (i.e. see a bear; give somebody in your family a bear hug).
Attendees will receive flowers upon leaving to pass on to someone else as well as a take-home kindness kit that comes in a complimentary lunch tote that kids can color on.
To my Detroit folks, KIND and zulily will be hosting a KINDness safari at the Detroit Zoological Society tomorrow from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. The same event is going on at 17 other locations across the county, and you can find out more information about participating zoos here.
Click on the zoo in your area to view and print your special offer for a discounted ticket during Kindness Safari day tomorrow, May 16th!

• Friday funnies
Oh my gosh, you guys… I couldn’t resist. I found one funny dog snapchat and got lost in a black hole of them for at least thirty minutes. So great!
That middle dog’s face.
Hehehe!
Your Turn
Have a great weekend!

I hope that you have a fantastic time this weekend! I know that you will! I love those C9 shorts, and am currently in the market… hermmmmmm…
Heather
There’s hardly anything in the C9 line that I wouldn’t bring home with me. Lots of cute stuff!
bendiful
Have a great time this weekend pretty lady! I would like to move into the first photos on this post. That umbrella holder is so cute and I’m in desperate need of some treatyoself TLC.
Heather
I say treat yourself this weekend! Your body deserves it!
Shelly
I use to use that charcoal mask years ago and always loved it! Those dogs…lol…the last one totally looks like my Dutch. So funny! Have a great weekend!
Heather
It’s hard for me to post funnies without dogs in them… they’re just so expressive!
Heather@hungryforbalance
Movie theater recliners!? Those sound awesome!
I just had a massage last weekend at Massage Envy. I don’t have the monthly package but I was seriously considering it. I agree that it would be beneficial in so many ways!
Have a fun weekend at your retreat!
Heather
Right? I don’t care what movie we see, I’m down for a flick in that theater any time! 😉 Oh man, if you had a massage at Massage Envy you should totally take advantage of the member pricing. It’s so much more affordable!
Beth @ Running with the Sunrise
That ring holder is so cute! I don’t have enough rings to warrant a ring holder, but if I did, I’d want that one. 🙂 I am all about massages, too, except I’m terrible about scheduling them. 🙂 Had one last week and I really need to schedule one for this week if I can. Thanks for the reminder!!
Heather
I had the same problem for YEARS. I would even let my membership credits expire, what the heck is wrong with me? Lately, I’ve been scheduling my next massage appointment before I leave and it’s been a great push to get back in!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West
I rarely do face mask at home either, and when I do, I think — why don’t I do this more often? As far as massages, with my workout schedule, I really should indulge in them more often too. But I don’t! And loving your Target clothes and your weekend plans. Thanks for hosting and have fun! YAY for girl time! 🙂
Heather
Right? What the heck is wrong with us. I feel you on the scheduling issues. I used to skip over them all the time… but the more months that passed, the more I would experience frequent headaches, muscle spasms, and a sore lower back. I love my membership because they actually call to remind me to schedule appointments if I haven’t already. It’s one investment I’m very thankful for.
Kelly Runs for Food
Oh man I haven’t had a massage in forever! That’s definitely going on my summer to-do list. That outfit your friend gave you is adorable (and so thoughtful!). I’ve been looking for some cute running shorts for when it’s warmer outside.
Have a great weekend!
Heather
Treat yourself! The more you go, the more you’ll feel like a less tense version of you. I’m sure that sounds weird… but that’s the best way I can describe how I feel after months of going regularly! 😉
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul
Girl you had a good week! I love BBQ and massages! Have a blast on your retreat!
Heather
I can’t really complain… 😉 Thanks so much, it’s rainy and chilly here so I can only hope for sun and warmth from here on out!
Amanda @ Slimplify Life
Once you recline, you can never go back!
Have an amazing weekend at the women’s church retreat! That sounds awesome!!
Heather
Haha, SO TRUE!!
Brittany
I love Origins charcoal mask! I used Glamglow before but it is so pricey so I tried Origins and I actually like it better!
pieceofcaitlin
have a great time this weekend! I LOVE that face mask! 🙂
Chelsea @ Raw N' Toned
That umbrella! So so cute! And omg those dog snapchats! I’ll have to look after for more after work hahaha don’t want to get sucked in and be late to work this morning.
Kate @KateMovingForward
A weekend camping sounds so fun! S’mores for days!!! Hopefully the weather cooperates with you. I will have to look for that Origins mask…I always need some pore minimizing in my life!
Heather
Ahhh, we brought s’mores supplies but didn’t have it all with us when we attended the giant bonfire. Boo!
Sierra&Faith Winks and Eyerolls
Thanks for sharing that mask! We are definitely going to be looking it. We don’t use them as much as we should either. That jewelry holder is adorable! Massages are amazing and if we could have a personal masseuse and get one every day, we would not be apposed to it 🙂 Have a great weekend at your retreat!
Gretchen | Gretchruns
Target’s workout clothes are my fave! I’m actually heading there tomorrow to stock up for my upcoming race. Your picks are really adorable, so I’m excited! Hope you have a great weekend 🙂
Annette Perkins (@FitnessPerks)
I went to a theatre a few weeks ago and ALL the seats were recliners–it was SO amazing. Best theatre experience ever! I wanted to stay and sleep there, haha.
And massages. ahhhhh the best! So awesome. Have a fun weekend!!

I love that ring holder – it’s so cute!!
I haven’t checked out the C9 line (no Target in Canada anymore) but I might have to when I’m stateside in a few weeks.
cleaneatingveggiegirl
That ring holder is SO adorable!!
Courtney
OMG Paul Walker. Love, love LOVE. He was my one “free pass” 😉 I’ve been obsessed with him for years and when he died, I had so many friends texting/checking in on me lol…it was the first real time I actually really felt super upset about a celebrity passing…. 🙁
Heather
Haha, man. It’s crazy how attached we get to celebrities we don’t even know, isn’t it? Seeing his (gorgeous) face still makes me pout. We love you, Paul!
Beverley @ sweaty&fit
I don’t know where to start!! I love love love that gold umbrella ring holder. you have some amazing friends! also obsessed with taht dog snapchat waiting in line. sooo freaking cute.
Bri
OMG I LOLed at the dogs–I always love your Friday Funnies! And that Origins face mask is something I need in my life right now…thanks for sharing!! 🙂 Have a great weekend!
Sarah @ Sarah Sincerely
Um, recliners in the movie theater?! Yes, please! Except for it would probably greatly increase my chances of falling asleep during the movie (which I’m known for anyway), so maybe not. 😉
Ok, can you please tell my husband all that about massages? So that when I begin booking them on the reg he’ll know why. Ha! Seriously, though, I do need to get them more often. As you said, it’s more than just being a treat, I do think it would really help my shoulder tension and pain and afternoon headaches.
Enjoy your weekend away!
Heather
Scott is one who makes sure to get them himself, so he totally understands. I guess I got lucky there! I’m sure it would help your headaches, even just a little. Try it and see! 😉
Tricia Johnson
I love that ring holder and that outfit! Target has some great workout clothes.
I hope you have fun on your trip!
Jen@jpabstfitness
Love thos running shorts!!
jillconyers
We have a cinebistro opening this fall and it has reclining seats. Dinner and a movie with comfy seats. I’m going to check out the Origins face mask. Thanks for the rec.
Heather
That sounds like the perfect date night to me!
