Hi friends! How are you doing out there?
It’s been a strange couple of weeks around here for a few reasons. I shared more on that in my latest post, so you can read all about it if you’re so inclined.
I’m very thankful that Scott is back from his trip in the mountains, and we’re right back to our routine of trying to figure life out one day at a time. I spent a lot of my solo time (while he was away) with Skyler attempting to sleep and going through things that we don’t really need anymore, so that’s where most of my energy has been focused.
I’ve been rocking the mom uniform hard, which usually includes a baseball hat, side braid, sports bra, tank, and shorts almost every day. I’m ready to start getting dressed in more put-together outfits, and I am looking forward to being out more, now that Scott is home and my mom is in town visiting!
My mom lives in Orlando, but she flew here directly from Northern Michigan, where she spent nearly two weeks quarantined in a very small town to visit my grandma, socially-distanced style. It’s hard to believe, but my grandma turned 103 this week! She is now in assisted living, and is a true inspiration and is doing considerably well for her age. I’m so glad that my parents were able to see her to celebrate as much as they could.
My mom flew into NYC yesterday, so I’ve been soaking up some time with her and keeping things very low-key. It’s wonderful to have her here and it’s warmed my heart to see her to spend much-needed quality time with Skyler!
There are a few fun things on deck this weekend and week ahead, but we are really just enjoying another week of quarantine as much as we can. It’s Friday, so let’s dive right into this week’s Friday Favorites for a recap.
Thanks for checking in!
LATEST FAVES — QUARANTINE WEEK 22
- possibly finding our sleeping groove again
I mean, is there ever a more perfect sight than your child drifting off to sleep after fighting it for days, and even weeks? I think not.
I shared a little about this on social this week, and I’m here to attest that sleep strikes are real. Parenting a toddler in this season of quarantine isn’t easy, and I think Skyler’s sleep has been affected more than anything else for him. The kid just doesn’t want to settle down, and he has a ton of energy that he isn’t able to burn off the same way he used to when we were able to be on-the-go, visit play gyms, and run around outside all the time.
Well, my patience is still being tested on a daily basis, but I am happy to report that there is a glimmer of hope to getting him back on more of his normal sleep schedule this week. He’s given in to more naps, (we’ve tried skipping them entirely to see how he does and that was a disaster … he’s clearly not ready to drop them), and we’re occasionally able to put him down before 9 p.m.
Given the fact that he used to always be in bed by 7:30 or 8 p.m., this is quite the change, especially since his quarantine schedule has morphed more into 9:30 or even 10 p.m. It’s not ideal for anyone, and we are trying our best to break it.
Anyways, I appreciate the support I received this week on the subject, and wanted to share that we might be making some progress here. Hallelujah!
- dew skin tinted moisturizer — a summer staple
I don’t know about you guys, but I haven’t been living in a lot of makeup these days. I will admit, however, that it does feel good to get dressed in “real” clothes (anything outside of workout/athleisure gear) from time to time, and it always feels good to put a fresh face of makeup on when I do.
That said, my face will either stay bare with a layer of Daily Sheer Defense Sunscreen, or I will use my favorite tinted moisturizer for SPF instead, the Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer (foundation substitute) during these hot summer days. I really love the extra tint factor, as it feels like I’m actually “trying” without doing much at all.
This is a sheer tinted moisturizer with minimal coverage, but it has a SPF 20 built in. I wear Light (previously No 2), and it was one of my first Beautycounter makeup purchases ever. It really does live up to the hype!
I do love a good foundation (here is my top pick), but I prefer the tinted moisturizer for activities like walking around, running errands, and parenting a toddler. This one gives a dewy finish with glow-boosting ingredients – black currant seed oil, peony root extract, and vitamin C for increased appearance of firmness and radiance over time.
It’s perfect for everyday wear for me paired with the Touchup Skin Concealer Pen and Mattifying Powder, and you can read all about these products along with the rest of my top makeup picks here.
Good news!
If you’ve been eyeing Beautycounter products and would like to test some of them out in person, there are currently eleven best-sellers available as a pop-up in Sephora retail stores nation-wide. The Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer is on this list, along with some of my other favorites, so go check it out and let me know what you think!
Please reach out if you’re new to Beautycounter (I have a 20% off promo code for you!) or if you need any help with anything at all. Y’all know I love talking about all things clean beauty!
- Table 87 pizza night & frozen coal fired pizza
I mentioned this local pizza spot back at the beginning of quarantine, and last night was our second time stopping by. This time we were able to dine outside with table service (safely distanced from others), and tried a few coal fired pizza pies.
The Margherita is a go-to, and is absolutely delicious. Table 87 is known for coal fired pizza, and you can even get them by the slice. The restaurant does well, and you can try them out for yourself by purchasing the frozen pies from your local grocer.
This is the Fig, Speck, and Arugula pizza and was very, very good. My favorite part of the experience besides the attentive service and crust is the condiment toppings that come with the pies. They don’t use garlic in the pizza sauce, and instead offer ramekins of fresh roasted garlic and marinated red peppers for extra seasoning. It’s so good!
If you’re local to Brooklyn, you definitely need to stop by one of the three locations. And if you’re not, I highly recommend picking up a frozen pizza if you ever see it!
- latest workouts
With Scott traveling last week and hot and rainy days this week, looking back to recap all of it made me realize that I never got out for a run. Bummer! I’m craving a good one and look forward to setting out for a longer loop around the park with my mom tomorrow morning.
The past week of workouts had a good mix of total body, upper, and lower body at-home workouts. My cardio was lacking, however, so I tried to walk a few more miles than normal to make up for it.
Here’s what I did …
Friday: REST
Saturday: Intense Full Body Strength Workout via Heather Robertson – this circuit was all about strength moves with four sets of each exercise. No official rests needed, as it went back and forth from upper to lower body exercises with some abs thrown in. I really liked it!
Sunday: longer (5-mile) walk around the neighborhood with Scott and Skyler.
Monday: LIL Total Body At-Home Strength Workout – you’ll need a set of light and medium dumbbells for this one.
Tuesday: LIL Upper Body Dumbbell Strength Workout – same as above on the equipment. I love a good upper body focus and this circuit includes some of my favorite moves. It also inspired my lower body focus for the next day.
Wednesday: 30-Minute No-Equipment Ab and Booty Blast with Jake Dupree via POPSUGAR Fitness – always love his workouts and this one is very barre-inspired.
Thursday: REST, and a long family walk around the neighborhood.

I remember seeing Table 87 when they were on Shark Tank! I am also in Brooklyn and definitely need to stop by and try it out sometime.
Heather
Hi Lauren! I totally missed them on Shark Tank, but found out they were on there after I visited. So cool!
