Last weekend was a whirlwind with Meggan’s 80s Roller Skating Birthday Party, Mother’s Day, and my sister’s birthday all packed into it!
Yesterday morning’s alarm went off bright and early at 5:15 a.m. Before I knew it, I was reviewing choreography and on my way to perform in a Flash Mob.
Some of you might remember my Flash Mob debut a few weeks ago. I’m starting to get the hang of random (but choreographed) dancing in public places and I’m always happy to do it!
After walking around the convention center for a good fifteen minutes, I found the group and ran into on of my bridesmaids, Missy.
I had no idea she was in on the mob too! That just goes to show you how small the dance world can be, even in Orlando.
Circuit Workout
I got home a little after 9 a.m., changed into workout clothes and hauled out the door for a run before the heat kicked in. The gloomy sky kept the sun away, so I wasn’t in any kind of hurry to get done. I finished 5 miles in 43 minutes, and it felt great to get back out on the pavement.
While cooling down and walking back to our condo, I threw in some front and side lunges which inspired the following no-weights-necessary workout:
I love circuit training. Constantly moving from one exercise to the next at a fast pace really builds up your stamina, not to mention gets you through the workout quickly (bonus!).
After an afternoon on the computer, I met my sister for her birthday dinner which was really a continued celebration from Mother’s Day.
Mother’s Day
Since my sister’s birthday happened to fall on Mother’s Day this year, I volunteered Scott and I to make and bring dinner over to my parents’ house. Getting back from Tampa around 12:30 p.m. didn’t leave us much time to spare, so I turned to my Sparkrecipes app for dinner inspiration on the way to the grocery store.
We settled on Chicken Creole, adding a few ingredients to make it our own. My mother has an allergy to garlic and onions, so cooking for the family can be a challenge.
Up for it, we took on the somewhat spicy dish and modified a third of it for her in a separate skillet. It was Mother’s Day after all.
*The full recipe and modifications will be up on the blog this week!
While Scott was chopping vegetables for the creole, I got to work on the appetizer dip. Scott has made this red pepper jelly and cream cheese dip for a few parties, and it’s been a true crowd pleaser. We added one secret ingredient and named it the Sweet & Spicy Cream Cheese Dip.
*The full recipe will be on the blog this week!
Around 4 p.m. we packed up, and I was so excited to get there and see Roadie! Whenever we go out of town for a day or two, he gets to stay with “Gamma and Pop Pop.” Although he acts sad when we leave him there, I know he loves it.
I guess getting to run around the backyard and play with (usually brand new) toys doesn’t hurt either.
About an hour after our arrival, dinner was served!
We spent the rest of the evening chatting outside on the patio, opening birthday and Mother’s Day gifts.
We got my mom a few charms for her Pandora bracelet. My sister started it by getting her the bracelet a running shoe charm after we both ran our half marathons this year.
We added on an emerald heart – which is her birthstone – a pretty spacer, and a dangly puppy charm. We lost our family dog a few months ago, and it was both in memory of her and to help her anticipate the arrival of their very first puppy!
In a few short months my parents are adopting a Picardy Shepherd, which was born about two weeks ago. Until then, they enjoy watching our pup whenever we go out of town.
I loved spending time with my family, and Roadie (and Scott) enjoyed hanging in the fresh air outside.
I hope you all had a wonderful day as well. Happy Belated Mother’s Day!
