What a crazy few weeks it has been! What have you guys been up to? Settling in, unpacking, celebrating, going to events, and unpacking some more over here!
I have learned to take it a day at a time and remember that everything can not get done overnight. So… taking my own advice, I am unpacking one room at a time and trying my best to set up our new home. When everything finally has a place I will be sure to post pictures. I am aiming for Christmas. 😉
Although we have been in our new home for a week now, that does not mean anything has slowed down. Scott has filled his calendar – and apparently mine – with a variety of events, shows, and things for us to attend throughout the city. I have so much I want to blog about. I am anything but bored, and I can not complain one bit! I knew what I was marrying into though… Mr. Entertainment.
Just like unpacking our house, I am going to take it one post at a time. I have a handful of events and stories drafted and saved to write about. I want to share meals and little day to day adventures as well, but feel like I need to get through the big events first. Get ready… because here goes!
Scott’s Surprise Birthday Dinner
Last, last Friday (as in a week and a half ago) I pulled a fast one on a very special birthday boy. Moving has been incredibly stressful, not to mention wallet draining, so I knew Scott was not expecting much for his birthday.
We never have been extravagant with gifts, and prefer to spend the money on celebrating with a nice dinner, show, or something fun (for Scott) or relaxing (for me). This year, Scott wanted a tattoo. We will see. I am still trying to convince him that our monogrammed HBSH tattoos should be his last.
Regardless, I wanted to gather a group of friends to have a surprise birthday dinner for him! I never really get to surprise him, so I thought this was the perfect opportunity because he would not be expecting it.
Scott had an event the night before his actual birthday. He was busy until about 9 p.m. and I coordinated with the people he would be with the entire week to help. Since we just moved here, I had no idea where to take him or where anything was!
We decided on a sushi lounge called Mon Jin Lau located in Troy, Michigan. I spent the day getting everything ready for the movers, and somehow still pulled it all off!
Before dinner, I ran around with a friend of ours named Meghan. She has introduced me to a lot of different things in the area and even helped me pick out my first winter coat! <- post coming soon.
In case you didn’t quite catch on, take another good look at those birthday balloons.
Ha. The Princess one was a last minute decision. When the lady at the Dollar Tree register asked if it was for a girl, and I just smiled and said “No, it is for my husband actually. He is a little bit of a princess, and he will think it’s funny.” Utter confusion on her face followed.
After a few balloons popped in the car and we thought we were being shot at (seriously, has that ever happened to you?), we picked up a cake, candles, and headed over to set up at the restaurant.
Thanks for helping pull everything together, Meghan!
Before long, we had a few full tables ready for sushi!
Scott walked in a few minutes behind and we casually all hid behind menus, then yelled a group “Happy Birthday!” A table of ladies next to us even joined in, and Scott was really excited to see everyone there to celebrate.
We didn’t waste any time in ordering and in just a few minutes had a full plate of sushi. Boy…was it yummy!
One of our friends knows the owner there, and he was very sweet to offer us a celebratory bottle of champagne, sparklers included.
The look on the server’s face as Scott tries to “chopstick” the flame is priceless.
Happy Birthday, Princess!
Air Time Trampoline Park
I had mixed feelings about the next day, which was his actual birthday. We were supposed to move into our new home that day, but it ended up getting postponed. Good thing, because we had other plans in store!
Being a kid at heart, I knew an hour practice at a trampoline park would turn into an entire morning of nonsense. At around 11 a.m., Scott convinced me to join him and I had a blast at AirTime Trampoline & Game Park!
It didn’t take long for him to find the dodge ball room, either.
I will give you one guess on who started this friendly match…
Yup, the birthday boy himself.
I thought it was hysterical that the little boys he was playing were also attending a birthday party there.
Just another one of the kids, my husband is.
I will be sure to post more about this amazing facility! They have invited us to come back and spend more time, sans dodge ball attacks.
Tour of Gymnastics Champions
We finished the day with two more of Scott’s favorites:
Pad Thai from Pei Wei…
… and a special performance from the Olympic Gymnastic Teams!
You can read all about the Tour of Gymnastics Champions on my previous recap.
It was a wonderful show, and a wonderful way to celebrate Scott’s Birthday!
Happy 39th my love!

Hi Heather! You’re right, tackle one room at a time, you’ve accomplished the hardest part of moving.. finding a new place! Congrats. Next time you’re in Dollar Tree look for my brand in the food section, Tortillas Nuevo Leon. Here’s my website: tortillasnuevoleon.com btw, you take great pics! I love the red knit scarf.. i believe it’s from Express?? I have the same scarf! lol. 🙂
Heather
Yes, I agree. However, I feel like there is still so much to do! How cool you have a brand! I will definitely keep an eye out for it.
Oh, and thank you! It is actually from Forever 21, but I’m sure Express has a better version of it 😉
