Good morning! Here’s hoping you all had a great weekend. Did you do anything super exciting? Attend any holiday parties? Run around like a mad man/woman trying to gather gifts for your loved ones?
Ours was a good mix of fun and relaxing, which just so happens to be my favorite type of weekends.
I hurried home after work on Friday to take a shower and get ready for a night out with the girls. We had plans to see Straight No Chaser in Downtown Detroit, so we stopped into a new-to-all-of-us restaurant in Midtown on the way called The Grille. It was a neat place!
I ordered the pear and fennel salad with grilled shrimp and it was fantastic. I pretty much licked the plate clean. We loved the music and atmosphere, so I made a mental note to return soon with Scott.
Right before concert time, we pulled into the Masonic Temple which is the building I jokingly drove by saying “Yeah… you couldn’t pay me to go to a concert there,” not to long ago. Doesn’t it look haunted?
The resemblance to Disney’s Tower of Terror kind of freaked me out. It’s a good thing I had my big girl tights on that night.
Although the area and outside of the building might be questionable, the inside and main auditorium is beautiful.
That picture was taken after the show since we arrived right at call time. We walked to our seats and enjoyed two hours of Straight No Chaser‘s a cappella music. They were great!
They covered everyone from Jason Mraz to Iggy Azalea, and I appreciated their version of Frozen‘s “Let It Go.” The second half of the show highlighted almost all of their holiday hits, and that really got us into the spirit!
(Liz, Alex, Me)
We spent a little bit of time walking around the theater after the show ended, and I just kept admiring the architecture and decorations.
It was a great (not so turn-up) girls night out in the city!
Saturday started on a slow note, which is exactly how I prefer them. Scott was around until lunch time, so I took advantage of having him home and made a late breakfast and coffee as we lounged in our pajamas.
Eggos with syrup for him, and pumpkin spice gluten-free waffles topped in pumpkin spice Greek yogurt and hemp seeds for me. Yum!
We both left around the same time. He went off to the arena while I drove down to Royal Oak for a hair appointment. I just love it there!
I’m taking new headshots and a few fun photos for the new site later today and caved. I really want my (long) old hair back. Only… in my natural color, not the dark red… and not so damaged from constant styling for games and events (oh, the life of a dancer).
I got clip-in extensions! Merry Christmas to me, I suppose.
I’ve worn these type of extensions many times before, but that was when I was dancing and blonde in Orlando. They’re great to throw in for photos and special events if you’re looking to spruce up your do and add to the thickness or length.
I made a quick stop at Subway on the way to knock out more holiday shopping.
Six inch turkey with American cheese on wheat (toasted) with spinach, tomatoes, banana peppers, and black olives with oil & vinegar.
I spent the rest of my afternoon and early evening wrapping presents and cleaning the house. Good times! Scott returned home around dinner time, and we both agreed that movie theater popcorn sounded perfect.
Oh, and I guess we went to see a movie too. Ahh! I can’t believe it took us so long to see The Hunger Games Mockingjay: Part 1! Please tell that a good amount of you are just as obsessed with the series as I am. I need to see Part II, stat.
Sunday morning was a repeat of Saturday: pajamas and breakfast until lunch time. #thebest
I took my (ginormous looking) to-go mug of coffee with us to our church’s late service and posted a photo to celebrate two Pistons wins in a row. It’s a big deal after 13 consecutive loses, y’all.
Scott and I ran a few errands on our way home and returned hungry, craving a big salad mid-afternoon. I swear, he was craving it too.
It isn’t always just me.
I did my best to choose whatever needed to be used up in the veggie drawer and went to town!
The rest of my Sunday consisted of laundry, training assignments and a sunset run with Roadie. I still can’t believe it gets this dark before 6 p.m.
(Anddd we were under a light post.)
I don’t really like running in the dark, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do, right? At least I finally got to test out the night light on my Polar watch. So I guess that’s a win.
After our run, I vacuumed the entire house (including the stairs… do you guys do that? It’s so annoying but necessary…) and took a long hot bath. Roadie curled up under my feet while I spent the night on the computer catching up on life. And now we’re all caught up!
All right. It’s time to get crackin’ on the day. Look out for a holiday dumbbell workout on the blog (finally!) later this afternoon. See ya then!

Questions of the Morning
• How are you doing on holiday shopping?
• Do you like working out or going for a run on the weekends?
Generally, I take the weekends off of working out. I do, however, like to go for runs every now and then. When I’m training for a race, I always save my longest runs of the weeks for Saturdays!
EmilyAnne
I leave weekends for my long runs and sprint training. Long runs are Saturday, because that is the only day we have time, and sprint training is Sunday. Sprint training usually is a shorter day and helps work out the soreness from our long runs. http://www.eatallovertheworld.weebly.com

Sounds like you’ve got it figured out! Hope you had a great weekend 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Your hair looks so pretty! I have the itch to do SOMETHING with mine…but I never have and I’d chicken out…
I went on my longest run to-date yesterday! It was amazing!
Heather
Wow, congrats on the distance girl! It’s always fun to do something different. After years of dying mine it’s nice to finally try and get back to my roots 😉
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment
Your hair looks really pretty! Have fun at the photo shoot. I do workout on the weekends usually Saturday or Sunday. I sometimes lke to do a 2nd yoga class too, but it depends. We don’t have any stairs in our apartment so I am lucky on that one The stairs are tough to vaccum! I am almost done with my Christmas shoppng. Hooray for Amazon. 🙂
Heather
Yes, Amazon has been a huge help for me this year! And, yoga on the weekends is all ways a good idea 🙂
Bri
I typically workout in my living room, but this weekend I was really wanting to get out for a run. It didn’t happen though, because the roads were ice covered. Maybe soon. Sounds like you had a great weekend!
Heather
It can get tricky with icy roads. I barely go out and ran last winter! I just keep hoping the snow and ice will forget to show up this year 😉
Roisin
Love your hair – its really natural looking 🙂 p.s i may have just hit play on the spotify Straight No Chaser playlist…
Heather
Thank you! And yes, you should. I love that station 🙂
Chrissy @ Pink Polish and Running Shoes
I vacuum the stairs too! Especially since I have a black cat and the carpet on my stairs is a light tan. Needless to say, everything shows up if I don’t.
Heather
Oh yeah… with three fur babies vacuuming weekly (if not twice a week) is a must!
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries
Loving your new long locks! I’m currently growing out my hair, and can’t wait for it to get a little longer. We saw Mockingjay this weekend too…LOVED it. I’m totally into the series too. I’m already feeling impatient for Part 2 to be released!
Heather
Thank you! I know the feeling, sister. Ha. LOVED the movie, it needs to come out NOW! 😉
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West
Your hair looks great! I would never know those were extensions. Can’t wait to see the new headshots. Oh and yes, the concert sounds like the perfect girlfriend’s date too. Enjoy your day!
Heather
Thank you! I ended up curling it because it was rainy out… boo. I really wanted to go straight like this photo! Oh well.
Elsie @ Sharing Healthiness
I absolutely love your hair with those extensions! The ombre effect looks so good on you! Saturday is OK for me working out and usually I go for a run. Sunday I’d rather stay home and workout if I feel like it indoors. I vacuum everything! Nothing removes the dust better than the vacuum. 😉
Heather
Thank you! I feel you about Sundays. Running and yoga is usually the extent of working out for me!
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
I hate how dark it gets in the winter here in Minnesota! Two hours less sun every day than where I’m from in Nebraska lol! At least you have a cute pup to run with! 🙂
Heather
Yes, he is my defense in the dark! Ha.
brittanylesserfitness
Your hair looks awesome short and long! Love it
Heather
Aw, thanks Brittany. Same to you – and blonde and dark for that matter! xo
Allison T.
I usually take Sunday off but always do my long run on Saturday. I never have a chance to run during the week in the winter, which stinks. I stick to workout videos and body weight circuits that I can do in the mornings from home during the week.
Heather
Love at-home workouts! Especially when it’s cold out 😉
bsprual2011
I usually workout on Saturday as usual but I like to slow things down a bit for Sunday so I usually opt for a nice yoga session. 🙂 I used to get so freaked out running with Marley in the dark because I figured he’d protect me but he ended up jumping at about everything and nearly giving me a heart attack haha.
fitsickle
Your hair looks great!! Always wanted to see Straight No Chaser live! It sounds like such a fun show… Pentatonix does a Let It Go cover on their Christmas album too and it made me so happy. :)) Have a great night!
Heather
I bet Pentatonix is so good live!
