Hi everyone, Happy Saturday!
Here’s hoping your weekend has started off on the right foot. Ours did, with all four of them getting out the door just after sunrise to join our training group from church for a chilly morning run!
This is our second week training with Team Kensington for the half (for me) and full (for Scott) marathon coming up this October.
More on the project and cause coming up, but for now I will tell you that our Saturday mornings are now spent in some kind of similar gathering all for one common purpose.
This morning’s route took us four miles on the trails and I loved every minute of it. It was a lot chillier than I would have liked, but I finally warmed up about half way through and had a wonderful time admiring the scenery.
We even got to talking with a few new faces and ended up taking the run with a Pistons Season Ticket Holder. He and Scott chatted about the team the entire time!
I also thought it was really neat that right after we took this photo, Michael hurried off to catch a yoga class.
Awesome, right?
I am excited to tell you more about why and what we are running for later this week!
Breakfast in Birmingham
After a quick stop into Walmart, we picked up a couple of friends and drove over to Birmingham for breakfast.
There are a few surrounding cities near us that I absolutely adore, and Birmigham is one of them. I love the downtown area that is populated with unique shops and restaurants, but also appreciate the not-so-fancy places only locals know about.
This was our first time visiting The Whistle Stop, a quaint and tiny diner with a variety of menu items and a lot of charm.
As soon as we sat down at our booth, I got up to wash my hands and returned to the biggest cinnamon roll I have ever seen.
That Scott is a sneaky one… always ordering dessert first.
Before I knew it, my “one bite” turned into several and it was gone. So good! I ordered a Western omelet for my entree with tomato slices and a side of wheat toast. Alex had never tried eggbeaters before, so we both requested our omelets to be made with them.
Inside was ham, green peppers, onions, and a ton of melted cheese that got me full really fast. Orrrr it could have been that cinnamon roll. 😉
Jackfruit The Size of Both Scott and I’s Heads
Just like last Saturday, we stopped by one of my new favorite markets on the way home called Nino Salvaggio’s.
It was jam packed with holiday meal shoppers, but we navigated our way through and got what we needed to prepare our contribution to tomorrow’s festivities.
As we were browsing the produce area, Scott enthusiastically tugged at my arm and asked me if I have ever seen a fruit like this before.
Yup, that’s Scott’s foot on the ground right next to it. The jackfruit is the largest tree-borne fruit in the world and can weight up to eighty pounds!
It is most commonly shipped up from Mexico and looks like tiny sweet peppers when it’s cut up. I haven’t tried one yet, but the flavor is said to taste like a combination of apple, pineapple, mango and banana. (<- all delicious) Maybe sometime soon!
We also ran into something else kind of noteworthy before checking out… the Easter Bunny!
I don’t care how old you are, snapping a photo with him where you least expect an appearance is always acceptable in our household.
(Just another reason we need to eventually have children.)
We returned home about and hour and a half ago and the only plans remaining for the afternoon include putting a big salad together for tomorrow.
Between the cinnamon bun and the jackfruit, I guess you could say we had a big morning… Ha! I’m so lame.
Wishing you and yours a very Happy Easter and holiday weekend!

I recently tried jackfruit for the first time via a vegetarian BBQ sandwich from a food truck. The jackfruit took the place of the meat and it was actually not bad!

That sounds very interesting! Food trucks are the best! 🙂
