Hi everyone!
We did it. We made it to Friday, and we’re so close to the three day weekend (for some) to celebrate Labor Day! Are you getting your final white outfit for the season ready or what?
I’m off to an early shift at work, but before I go, I wanted to kick off the holiday weekend with a fresh batch of Friday Favorites! Below you’ll find what I’ve been loving lately as well as a quick recap of our recent travels and a giveaway winner announcement from earlier this week.
Enjoy, and to my friends in Florida, please stay safe with the hurricane heading your way!

- Wedding Weekend in Detroit, Michigan
We had such a great time visiting friends in Michigan last weekend. Some of you may have seen the highlights of our travel through Instagram stories, but for those of you who didn’t, Scott and I traveled back to our former home area and Detroit to celebrate two dear friends getting married.
As usual, we played the role of ourists well and enjoyed as much time as we could exploring around our old stomping grounds.
Our time was pretty scheduled due to commitments surrounding the wedding, but we did have enough of it to get out and about. Some of my favorite parts about the weekend included a day trip to Downtown Detroit. Scott and I found a new brunch spot called the Dime Store in the Chrysler House that I highly recommend visiting for great eats in a neat atmosphere. We followed our brunch with a walk around the area to pay a visit to Campus Martius (Detroit’s City Beach), and the iconic statues.
I think it’s fair to say that Skyler hasn’t quite grasped the concept of dipping his toes in the sand yet. City baby much?
He eventually warmed up to the grass though!
It wasn’t too long before we needed to head over to our hotel to get ready for the wedding rehearsal and dinner, and I loved being able to get dressed up and catch up with everyone. We dined at a wonderful place called 220 Merrill (it was so good!) in Downtown Birmingham and turned in early for a busy wedding day to follow.
I didn’t intentionally match the hotel lounge’s decorations for the evening, but it worked out that way. Isn’t it a gorgeous setup? I could have definitely spent more time there at The Duke Lounge.
The wedding took place at a local church in Bloomfield Hills and the reception was at a popular and top-notch venue called the Detroit Athletic Club (DAC). The entire ambiance was absolutely beautiful, and I loved the champagne, gold, and silver color palette with simple, yet stunning white flowers scattered everywhere.
It was a very sweet and special day for our friends Colleen and Liam!
We felt spoiled with our stay at the hotel and spent our final day in Michigan with rooftop views at brunch and catch-up sessions with friends around the city.
We were sad to have to say goodbye, but know that we will be back to visit again sometime soon. And next time Skyler will have a new baby friend to play with, too. (Alex is currently nine months pregnant, and we are so excited to meet their little boy!)
- makeup sponge & brush holders
I’m starting to feel like an adult when it comes to organizing my makeup, and more importantly, I’m slowly upgrading my products to be free of toxic chemicals. (More on that coming soon!)
While in the City this week, Scott and I couldn’t help but pop into a Five Below when we saw one. It was a favorite stop of ours while living Michigan, and we always left with who knows what for cheap. It was the best!
This time around I left with an easy and sanitary way to store my makeup sponge (finally!) in our medicine cabinet, and I found another good way to save counter space to store my brushes, too.
This holder has suction cups on the back to stick to any cabinet door and doubles as a cleaning pad to scrub the brushes. For under $5 each, you can’t really beat these finds! I’m having trouble finding exact links, so I guess the best I can do for you here is to encourage you to visit a Five Below if you’re near one. There are also some good options on Amazon with a quick search.
- Toddler Vans
Something else I’ve been loving this week is the current line of Vans sneakers for toddlers. We stopped into a store on the way home from Five Below and couldn’t leave without getting him a pair. We purposely sized up a bit so that he would be able to grow into them and out of the soft sole black and white version that he has now, and I cannot wait for the day that he can wear these beauties.
I’m all about the classic checkerboard pattern, but there’s something about this green shade that screams Fall to me and I’m all about it. So stinking cute, right?
- Sky’s First Picture Gift
Speaking of cute, let’s talk about something that melted my heart yesterday.
I knew that Skyler is very into coloring when given the opportunity, but I wasn’t prepared to receive my first drawing by him already. Scott clearly helped him with spelling out Momma and signing his name at the bottom, but seeing the pattern of random scribbles in different colors tells me that he did this all on his own, and I can’t believe that we are already here!
They say “don’t blink” because kids grow up faster than you can ever imagine, and I totally get why. We have an almost one-and-a-half-year-old on our hands people!
Can you believe it?
- ZeroWater Giveaway Winner
In case you missed it, I shared all about the importance of staying hydrated and talked about high-quality water and what defines it earlier this week!
I have been refilling my ZeroWater filter on repeat since I received it, and I’m happy to have a giveaway winner to share with you today.
Congrats to Annette P — you should have received an email and just need to respond with your shipping address to claim your prize!
