Hello, and Happy Hump Day!
It’s been a while since I featured a What I Ate Wednesday post on the blog. While I usually cover an entire day of eats from any random Tuesday, this edition breaks down a Monday, the day before my mom got into town this week. I knew we’d be all over the place exploring, so below you will see what more of a normal day in and out of the gym looks like for me.
(Have no idea what WIAW is all about? This post breaks it down!)
What I Ate Wednesday Monday
Breakfast took place around 7:15 a.m., which was as soon as I could get my mug filled with coffee. We had been out of waffles for a couple of weeks, so a pair of them generously smeared in peanut butter goodness sounded pretty fantastic!
Nature’s Path (gluten-free) buckwheat waffles topped in peanut butter, sliced, bananas, agave nectar, and chia seeds
I worked on the computer until my first 9 a.m. session at the gym. I taught a small group training class after that, and then made the best out of a last minute 11:00 cancelation. Hello, (on-the-fly) lunch at home!
Rudolph’s sandwich bread from Nino Salvaggio’s with Earth Balance buttery spread
Amy’s Organic Fire Roasted Southwestern Vegetable Soup
Side salad with mixed greens, spinach, celery, tomatoes, cucumbers, black olives, red & green peppers, parmesan cheese, and (un-pictured) Greek salad dressing
It was an easy, healthy, and hearty lunch that held me over for hours!
When my 12:30 client messaged me to reschedule her appointment as well, I took that as a sign to catch up on some emails and enjoy working at home until my next session at 2:00.
(Monday was a wee bit busier for me at the gym than normal since I took Tuesday off to spend time with my mom!)
I had a break from 3 – 5 p.m., so I spent some time researching and booking plans for the weekend. I’m very much looking forward to spending the holiday on the water with friends that will be visiting us from out of town!
I also couldn’t get my hands out of this can of Blue Diamond Sriracha Almonds.
(You might remember me featuring this flavor in my Healthy To-Go Snack For The Road post a couple weeks ago.)
Holy geez, they are amazing!
I had my last client at 5, then finished up my day by covering a small group strength class at 6.
I wanted to fit in a workout of my own before I headed home, so I grabbed an About Time ProHydrate protein drink from my stash in the refrigerator. I featured them in my 6 Easy Tips To Staying Hydrated Post and am still loving them.
I was pretty tired by this point in the day, so I went through a simple body and light weight workout that mirrored exercises I would have probably seen in my beloved Fitness Pilates classes. Gosh, I miss those days.
Have you ever used an ?
Or a for exercises on the floor?
I was so hungry by the time I packed up my backpack and set out for home that I decided to drive through Yaya’s Flame Broiled Chicken on the way home. It’s fast food… so it’s not my favorite option, but I sure am grateful that it’s there on nights where I’m ready to eat my arm and don’t even want to think about making dinner.
(After looking online, I found Yaya’s are all over Michigan and also in the cities of St. Petersburg and Clearwater, Florida.)

I drizzled a little Yaya’s Original Dressing into my wrap and had no problem finishing the entire plate shortly after snapping this photo.
I was pretty tuckered out from my back and forth day at the gym, so I threw in a load of laundry, showered, and called it a night without dessert. Crazy!
So there you have another edition of WIAW. I hope you enjoy these sneak peeks into my daily eating habits, and I’ll see you a bit later this afternoon if my day allows. Happy Wednesday!

Please note: What I Ate Wednesday features an entire day of my unfiltered eats. In no way do I change what I eat just for the sake of documenting it. While I try to be mindful with portions, I don’t count calories. I do, however, take into account how much activity I am going to be doing that day, and I plan my meals and snacks accordingly.
Question of the Morning
• What is a “healthier” fast food restaurant you drive through when you’re in a bind?
Sabrina Alexandra
I love Amy’s soup, but I really have to be in a certain mood for soup.
The only fast food I eat is Chick-Fil-A so I guess that is my “healthy” choice!
Heather
Oh my gosh, Chick-Fil-A!! YES! We don’t have them in Michigan (yet), so any time I’m in Florida I get my fix! 😉
Jessie
This is a fun idea for a blog post 🙂 I’m always curious as to what other people are eating throughout their days haha If I eat fast-food, I usually like to just enjoy myself and not worry as much about whether it’s healthy or not. I try to watch my portion size and not do it very often, but when I do I like to have fun with it and eat something really yummy even if it’s not the healthiest:) If i’m in a bind or need something specific to fit macros, I try to pick whatever is the healthiest option on the menu of wherever I’m at haha:)
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment
Ha…I have actually been using the ab wheel pretty frequently! Scott had one so it was fun to dig it up for my workouts. If I need something really fast I will stop at Chipotle or the hot bar at Whole Foods We happen to live close to both.
Heather
The hot bar at Whole Foods is SO good! Glad to hear I’m not the only one who still loves that wheel 😉
Melissa (I Crashed the Web)
I love WIAWs and those almonds look so so yummy.
I typically try to eat chipotle burrito bowls (without rice, cheese or sour cream) and do half and half … also try chicken salads at McDonald’s, etc. I
Heather
I usually get Chipotle “salads”… I quote salad because I top it with so much that it’s basically a burrito bowl with extra lettuce 😉
Arman @ thebigmansworld
I’m seeing SO many waffles today- Looks like I’ll need to satisfy that craving!
Thanks for linking up, Heather!
Heather
Waffles are one of my favorite go-tos! Happy Wednesday, Arman!
Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food
That lunch looks so good. I’m a sucker for good bread! I don’t know if Panera counts as “fast” food, but it’s usually where I go for a quick lunch out.
Heather
Panera is delicious! I’ll crave their soups, salads, and bread quite frequently!
yogawinehappiness
It’s not a drive through but I always get take out sushi from the restaurant down the street .. It’s ready in 15 minutes and is semi healthy, and totally delicious!
Heather
Love sushi to go! It’s hard not to eat the entire roll on the way home 😉
yogawinehappiness
Definitely!! 🙂
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries
Looks like a tasty day of food! I’m impressed considering how busy you were! I’m all about Subway, Chipotle, or Chick-Fil-A when/if I’m looking for something fast!
Heather
YES to all of those options!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West
Hi Heather! When I was a trainer in a gym, I loved cancellations (which I think I’ve told you before), because if it was a last-minute cancel, we still got paid! Anyways, you had a good variety of eats in this day. And I’ve never heard of YaYa’s before, but the wrap looks tasty. It’s always good to have a place you know you can count on for something quick when you’re in need. Have fun with your Momma! 🙂
Heather
I hadn’t heard of it either until I moved to Michigan. It’s been a serious lifesaver! And yes, sometimes I don’t mind the cancellations 😉
Jamie
I’m all about Panera when I don’t have any other options. I like that they list out the nutritional facts so I’m not getting totally blindsided by sugar in my salad. Hope you have a great day!
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul
Those banana waffles look so yummy!!
Lindsey
I usually opt for Subway when I’m short on time. But it’s super hard to stay away from their cookies! They have the best cookies!
Cody
I love chic-fil-a it may not be the healthiest in the world, but it is delicious!! That greek salad looks amazing 🙂
Heather
I miss Chick-fil-A so much!!
hmtroupe
We don’t do “fast food” often either, but we had Chipotle the other day just because!
Becky @ good4theswole
Wow all your food pictures look incredible and made me hungry ha! I usually stop at which wich and get a lettuce wrapped sandwich. They have an app so I order through that and go pic it up super fast. SO good!!
Heather
That sounds super convenient! Great idea 🙂
Cookie Yi
It’s not super healthy but there’s a Taco Bell on the way home and I would sometimes get some chicken taco al-fresca style. I add fresh salsa and light sour cream when I get home!
Heather
I used to get that when I was ridiculously hungry after a full serving shift in Orlando. It was right by my house and hard to pass by!
Ashley @ Fit Mitten Kitchen
Nice post! I want to try and start incorporating WIAW into my future posts. Going to have to get into the habit of snapping ALL meals, not just my fun or “proud” ones… hmmm 😉 But Chipotle for “fast food” ALWAYS. But they don’t have drive-thrus… sometimes I’ll opt for Starbuck’s egg white feta wrap. Panera has some pretty hearty salads… and I believe they are becoming more transparent about their ingredients!
Heather
Haha, right? There are plenty of food pics I’ve shared on WIAW posts that aren’t the “proudest”… it’s always neat to see what others eat in a day as well. It’s a fun little link up 🙂 Also, I LOVE that wrap at Starbucks!
Julia @ Lord Still Loves Me
Do you consider In N Out healthy? I do. 😉 Happy Wednesday Heather!
Andie @ The Well Bread Baker
Love your breakfast… nothing beats the good old PB/banana combo! 🙂
