Happy Hump Day! Per usual, today I am participating in What I Ate Wednesday and have prepared an entire day of eats to share with you.
Ninety percent of the time I stick to covering Tuesdays, in order to show that the day I pick is not centered around anything specific or special about it. Yesterday happened to be an extremely eventful one, so lets just go ahead and dive right into it.
What I Ate Wednesday Tuesday
The alarm went off earlier than usual, and I flew down to the kitchen to get breakfast and quickly blog before needing to get out the door by 8:30 a.m.
Udi’s gluten free millet-chia bread topped with dark chocolate peanut butter with a cup of strawberry Greek yogurt sprinkled in Hemp Hearts.
After sharing this meal yesterday, I received a lot of great and helpful comments about gluten free bread. Looks like I also need to check out Bakehouse!
I also got a question about why I add hemp hearts to things. To quickly answer it, yes there are great nutritional and health benefits to the superfood, including increased energy, lowered blood pressure and cholesterol, reduced inflammation, and improved blood circulation and immunity just to name off the big ones.
Besides sprinkling it on top of toast or yogurt, I often add the seeds to my smoothies, oatmeal, and even salads!
Breakfast held me over all way over to an event across town, as I filled in as an assistant to HOOPER, our crazy Detroit Pistons mascot at an appearance.
You guys. He’s nuts. But I guess that shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.
We ended up getting there early and had a lot of down time once we showed up before actually needing to be present. So, we did what any of you would do in this situation and entertained ourselves with a spontaneous photo shoot by the water.
And when I say we had some time to kill, I mean like an hour.
Personally, the “Detroit gangstas” photo of me with the flying horse is my fav.
Eventually, the boys were called in to help announce the boats that would be representing the Detroit sports teams in an annual boat race for charity, along with some city legends.
It was pretty neat to see all of them in one place!
As soon as the event wrapped up, we were on our way back to the arena and I pulled out a bag of Special K cracker chips I had been drooling over in my mind all morning.
It was a delicious snack and gone in about ten seconds.
We arrived back at the arena around 1 p.m. and I took advantage of being there to meet Scott on his lunch break there. The cafe never disappoints me with their fresh salad bar and hot sandwich station!
Romaine, spinach, kale, cucumbers, tomatoes, chick peas, beets, chicken, and shredded cheese in a vinaigrette dressing.
I gobbled it up and went back for a bowl of chicken and vegetable soup.
I made it home around 3 and spent the afternoon blogging before getting outside for a run with Roadie. I also may have eaten my weight in Triscuit crackers dipped in roasted pine nut hummus.
Pay no attention to that leftover pretzel piece lingering from the day before in there. (Sheesh… pull yourself together, Heather.)
I usually go to the gym on Tuesdays for Fitness Pilates, but wanted to take advantage of the warm and beautiful weather we have been having.
I asked Roadie if he wanted to go outside for a run, then put together that he just might. I love when he gets so excited that he sneezes!
It was so great to finally see green on our running path through the trails!
We timed our four miles out perfectly. During our last half mile it started sprinkling and we booked it home before it started really raining. Even through the sprinkles, I’m sure Roadie appreciated his time out in the fresh air.
After a speedy shower, I jumped in the Jeep and was on my way to pick Scott up from work. Yup, as of right now we are still sharing a car. It’s delightful and not the least bit annoying. (Lies.)
Both hungry and ready to chew our own arms off, we decided to make a stop at Tropical Smoothie Cafe on the way to the grocery store.
Sunny Day (top): mango, banana, orange + kiwi and Blimey Limey (bottom): strawberries, pineapple, orange + kiwi.
The goal was to tie ourselves over until we were able to make a healthy dinner at home, but that was before we noticed a Quiznos right next door.
Chicken Caesar Pesto 8″ sub split between the two of us: mozzarella, 3 cheese blend, seasonal greens, tomatoes, banana peppers, cucumbers, basil pesto, peppercorn Casesar dressing on wheat.
It’s safe to say we left that shopping center feeling satisfied and pulled up to the grocery store ready and on a mission to get home. Not wanting to spend all of our money, we stuck to the basics (produce, milk(s), and yogurt) and returned home thirty minutes later.
While we originally had plans to put on a movie, I remembered that I really should be studying instead. Upstairs and into a quiet bedroom I went.
I read a chapter, made more vocabulary note cards, and came down for a snack break once or twice.
Does anybody else crave dill pickles at night? Both Scott and I do, and it’s a serious mystery. Like, almost every night we crave them.
I also went back down for a glass of dark chocolate almond milk and pulled out a cookie (that looked like a biscotti) from a box my friend left me as part of a birthday present.
They were so good! I don’t know where you can find them, but I’m pretty sure this box was purchased at Home Goods.
And, before I knew it, I was back upstairs studying until bed. With the help of all three fur babies, of course.
They’re so thoughtful.
All right. That concludes this week edition of WIAW. Thanks again, Jenn, for hosting! I am in the process of putting together a few Orlando related posts over the next few days, and if I finish one you’ll see it later today.
Hope you all enjoy your Wednesday!

Gross, pickles! 🙂 I love that your fur babies are right there with you while you study. Mine are the exact same way, except one of my cats (I have two) despises my dog, so she’s usually off hiding somewhere.

Your groceries look delicious!

Our cat always ‘helps’ when we’re working, too 🙂 And as far as nighttime snacks go…a bowl of cereal! Especially if it’s Cheerios with a banana on top, mmm.

That roasted pine nut hummus looks delicious! Sometimes I crave for sweets at night but I try not to keep too many sweets at home so I don’t over indulge!

Hi! Found you through WIAW link-up! Jealous that you get to run on that trail! Looks so peaceful and green 🙂 Doesn’t look like the “trails” I run on.

My late-night snack is usually coconut-covered dates and some warm almond milk. It’s just enough sweetness to keep me happy. I try to keep my “real dessert” eating to the weekend.
Jess

Love your blog and read regularly! 🙂 I just had a random thought… Hooper doesn’t happen to be your husband, does he?!
Heather
Ha, no! But he is HOOPER’s coordinator and the Director of the Flight Crew Dunk Team, which is why I am frequently surrounded by them! 🙂
